Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, James R T Law. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Richard Edward Cecil Law, 8th Baron Ellenborough, you may have a conflict of interest. People with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, see the conflict of interest guideline and frequently asked questions for organizations. In particular, please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, its competitors, or projects and products you or they are involved with;
- instead, propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the
{{request edit}}
template); - avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing, and autobiographies.
Your user name suggests that you are editing articles about members of your family. Please note that this is strongly discouraged. It is always important to add sources for every Wikipedia article, but it is even more important in cases like this where you might have a "Conflict of interest". Please provide references for this article (Times obit perhaps?), and in future if you want to add information about members of your family please read the rules on COI and suggest content by using the article talk page or the WP:Articles for Creation system, with adequate references. Thanks. PamD 09:03, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
- Also, please take care when editing: you said that the 8th baron had succeeded the 9th baron! I've fixed it. (Made a further muddle on the way but I think it's now OK). PamD 09:16, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

editHi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
I noticed your recent edit to Baron Ellenborough does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
- User contributions
- Recent changes
- Watchlists
- Revision differences
- IRC channels
- Related changes
- New pages list and
- Article editing history
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! RezonansowyakaRezy (talk | contribs) 14:13, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for February 3
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Edward Downes Law, 5th Baron Ellenborough, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Baltic (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
