Read this first if you're about to complain about me modifying one of your edits

edit

I've recieved some feedback from people whose edits I reverted or modified about this, let me state first that I believe that the whole goal behind Wikipedia is to provide unbiased facts for the reader to come to his or her own conclusions about the incident in question. Editorializing is not a NPOV. I will revert or modify any edit to contraversial articles that I happen to come across which I believe violates NPOV regardless of whether or not I agree with the sentiments expressed by it's author. If I end up being bashed by extremists on both sides of an issue, then I'll take that to mean that I'm doing a good job of being neutral.

Having said all that, if you still feel that I am in error in reverting your edit, feel free to let me know about it on my talk page. Just a friendly suggestion: I tend to take your complaints more seriously if you express them in a civil manner.

The exception to this are math and science related articles. If you disagree with the Theory of Gravity, you can go walk off a balcony. ;) --Loren 11:19, 24 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

edit

-- I've noted your most recent changes to the Taiwan article with interest. What gives me huge red flags is a use of language which I would agree with in its entirety. I've reverted it because there's no point in including the sections about how there were no Han Chinese settlement until so and so time; a non-biased point of view would be to state that the Han Chinese settled at X time instead...

Bubble tea article edits

edit

I am unsure if your edits are correct as they change the meaning of the original Chinglish.

use the name -> are known as -- perhaps "use the name" refer to brands or product descriptions

removal of _much_ w/ reference to 1 cm diameter -- perhaps there really is a large difference; note recently added pearl sago section

skills of making -> quality of resulting product -- although the former implies the latter, these are not equivalent (e.g. the latter could result without the former due to differences in the quality of the ingredients)

Trivia section -- Your editted version is far off from the version you replaced; esp. in that you deleted the "once per week" part

-- UTSRelativity 00:24 2004-12-13 (UTC)

Trivia: Yes, apparently I neglected to add the once per week part when I edited that section. It was an honest mistake, thank you for pointing that out. I've fixed it. However I stand by the rest of my edit. The original contained incorrect information (see the linked news articles) and was decidedly nonneutral in it's wording.
use the name -> are known as: As far as I know, most of the names in the list are general product descriptions and not brand names. i.e. "photocopier" as opposed to "Xerox".
removal of _much_ w/ reference to 1 cm diamete: Not sure if pearl sago is regarded in the same catagory as the more farmiliar large variety. Will look into this.
skills of making -> quality of resulting product Agree with your point. But "skills of making" sounds a little odd. Perhaps "skill in making"? Also, most people care about the quality of the final product be it by skill or ingredients.-Loren 01:15, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

228 incident

edit

Hello. I have noticed that you have revampted the article 228 Incident and I would like to say thank you for your good work on this topic. I accidentally found this person on Times magazine cover[1]: K.C. Wu. and I am quite interested in finding out who this person is as he also appeared in Kerr's book's appendix[2].

The picture is extremely interesting and I wonder if we can also integrate this picture into the encyclopedia. Unforutnately, I am not familiar with the copyright regulation and I am not familiar with this person either. I would like to seek your opinion on the possiblity of integrating this piece of photo into current version of 228 incident.

I would be looking forward to your suggestion. Many thanks and Happy new year.Mababa 05:01, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, I have just realized that I have raised a dumb question. Wu was introduced in Kerr's book, the chapters I skipped.Mababa 05:24, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hello,

Just for your information, I am comming to advertise the Wikipedia:Taiwan-related topics notice board that I have just created in the hope that contributers on Taiwan related topics can have a place to discuss on different proposals.

Remark

edit

Hi. I have just a remark about style. On Wikipedia, one should write

== See also ==

instead of

== See Also ==

and so on, that is, one should not use capitals in the middle of the section. Also, it is good to use a spellchecker, misspelled articles look kind of unprofessional. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov 20:40, 5 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the encouragement. I saw a lot of politically motivated minor changes that really destroyed the unity of the intros as a whole, so I thought I might give it an overhaul. Hopefully it reads a lot more smoothly and makes more sense logically.--DownUnder555 21:18, 21 May 2005 (UTC) ~~Reply

Given the history of GrandCru, being praised by him maybe less than desirable. I've just noticed that you sent me that message. I have included the response from KMT to those issues. However, I do believe some of them are too detailed and should be discussed on a separate page. The entire KMT page becomes tediously long. p.s. toss the discussion on whether to use "localisation" or "desinisation", GrandCru changed it back to pro-independence. Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. hi, Changlc, thank you for your notice. i have explained in detail on the discussion page of the template. bascially, this is a new version of Image:LocationROC.png that is not to be confused with the 1947 map. i initially uploaded this file under name Image:LocationROC.png onto commons, but later found that on en, there is already an image with the same name containing the 1947 map, so i changed this old one to Image:LocationROC full.png, so that the commons name can be retained.--R.O.C 08:24, 20 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

drawing this new image took me several hours, since it was not an easy job to overlay different maps and find out the locations of those minor islands on the world map (esp. pratas and itu aba). then, it took some time to update all the pages in different languages. thank you for encouraging me, but i will probably continue to spend more time on zh since it still needs much attention -- it is not as lucky as en to enjoy so many reasonalbe and capable eidtors yet. but i will try to edit en more often, so i can also improve my english. anyway, nice to know you, and after updating all the pages, i can go to sleep now. --R.O.C 09:26, 20 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Taiwan independence article

edit

"I was concerned mainly by the fact that you deleted the original account (admittedly contaning some ideas from the pan-Green side) and replaced it almost in it's entirety with a new account skewed slightly to the pan-blue side."

I agree with you on not deleting things. I was in fact, editing and in moving things around, dropped a few things but kept most POV if not all the verbiage, if you read carefully. I don't thnk that it is more narrowly biased than before, just taken in a different topical direction. What I mean is, the section heading was "History", which I took to mean the "history of the Taiwan independence movement," not "history that drives the movement according to Taiwan independence people." I have no problem with an exposition on the latter, but if it is the latter, it should be noted so clearly, and if anybody cares, have other major POV added as well, in keeping with NPOV. Maybe you can clarify which kind of "history" we are talking about. Both can be on there.
In any case, I really hope you can take some of the things from my edit and use it to augment the article, whether it be in a history section or in some other sections. I think there are seeds in there for a number of topics that are relevant but completely overlooked currently. The content is there, I trust you to do it right.
If you don't want to do anything to reorganize things, then let me at least point that the one objection I DO have that is not related to organization and content addition is to this very POV sentence:
The Taiwan independence movement began under Manchu rule in the 1680s which led to a well known saying those days, "Every three years an uprising, every five years a rebellion".
This is simply false. There was no "Taiwan independence" movement at that time -- by that I mean whatever you want to call rebellions, they aren't at all related to "Taiwan independence" as you know now. There is no relationship. This one is really out there, a minority view in a minority view. If nothing else, I would revert that away. BTW, I did include this view by more accurately characterizing it as an inspiration.

What's the criteria being used to define a link as "linkspam" or "essential" on the Japan page? I've read your response to Bill and you mention "commercial sites" as being defined as linkspam. On the Japan page, there is a link to JapanToday which is mostly a commercial site. There is also a link to AJR Newslink which provides just some BROKEN links to supposed Japanese News sources (most of them with content in Japanese by the way, not suitable for the english wiki) - the link I added with syndicated news being labeled as "linkspam" and the AJR newslink being labeled as "essential" doesn't seem to follow any reasonable criteria. Also I can't understand JapanToday as essential unless you're considering how big a site is to determine if it's essential, which is a flawed criteria, besides it being rather a commercial site(thus contradicting yourself reading your response to Bill)
