Speedy deletion nomination of User:LornaGardiner

edit

A tag has been placed on User:LornaGardiner requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Undisclosed paid editing

edit

Hello LornaGardiner. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Clanwilliam Group, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:LornaGardiner. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=LornaGardiner|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:06, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Response to Undisclosed paid editing

edit

Hi User:Drm310 , I have created the Clanwilliam Group page as although I am not being paid directly for this work, I am associated to the company through work. I have included references in the article. They are a significant Irish business with operations around the globe, so they are of public interest. I can edit the article to announce the disclosure if that works?

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by LornaGardiner (talkcontribs)

--LornaGardiner (talk) 17:12, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Lorna GardinerReply

Since you are employed by an agency who represents the interests of Clanwilliam Group, then you meet the definition of a paid editor. I see that you have disclosed this on your userpage, so thank you for doing so. I have put {{connected contributor (paid)}} templates on the talk pages of both draft articles, so you are free to resume editing.
I will caution you about the RTE sources in Draft:Howard Beggs; they look like press releases. If they were authored by the article subject or an organization affiliated with him, they won't be considered reliable. Sources need to have an established reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight, and also be unaffiliated with the subject under discussion. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:21, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

  Thank you for declaring your conflict of interest. That doesn't mean you can write what you like, you must follow the guidance below:

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the organisation or company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, logs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company or organisation claims or interviewing its management. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
  • The notability guidelines for organisations and companies have been updated. The primary criteria has five components that must be evaluated separately and independently to determine if it is met:
  1. significant coverage in
  2. independent,
  3. multiple,
  4. reliable,
  5. secondary sources.
Note that an individual source must meet all four criteria to be counted towards notability.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

I notice that your attempts so far include url spamlinks but no wikilinks, lots on what you sell, but little about the company such as financials. The number of employees is mentioned but unsourced.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:09, 8 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Clanwilliam Group

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Clanwilliam Group, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. YODADICAE👽 16:28, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits to Talk:Clanwilliam Group while logged out. Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow the use of both an account and an IP address by the same person in the same setting and doing so may result in your account being blocked from editing. Additionally, making edits while logged out reveals your IP address, which may allow others to determine your location and identity. If this was not your intention, please remember to log in when editing. Thank you. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 17:10, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, LornaGardiner. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. – Athaenara 06:09, 6 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Athaenara, thanks for the response. I did disclose information pertaining to employer and client from the outset on my User Page. I have disclosed the potential COI and I have also endeavoured to include reliable references and sources throughout my editing to ensure accuracy. LornaGardiner (talk) 08:48, 6 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I have been blocked for using my account for advertising or promotion. I would like to appeal this as I disclosed my interests from the outset on my user page and also when editing an article that has since been deleted. Conscious of my position, the article I created (Clanwilliam Group) used neutral language and reliable references were used throughout the article, to back up points and figures. I ask if you would please reconsider this. Thanks. LornaGardiner (talk) 08:02, 6 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

It's good that you declared, but the declaration is not a license to promote. Wikipedia is not for merely telling about a company and what they do- that's considered promotional. You don't have to be soliciting customers or selling something. Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Your draft was sourced to nothing but announcements of routine business activities(such as purchasing other companies), which does not establish notability. If independent sources significantly write about the company and its influence on a field or how it is notable for a particular business practice, that's what we are looking for. Please review the notability criteria. Since you seem to only be interested in editing about clients to tell the world about them, there are no grounds to lift the block. 331dot (talk) 08:42, 6 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
