Wiki

I think the solution is simply to focus on what the purpose of wiki is - namely to create an encylopedia according to certain editorial policies. If we concentrate on content, then other things get taken care of by default... I hope this helps... Tyrenius 12:34, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Project news Cities and municipalities task force The task force dedicated to creating and improving articles on all German cities and municipalities is happy to announce that there are now (at least) stub articles for all municipalities of Germany. Now the task force is looking for help in fleshing these out a little bit. The current phase of activity for the task force is to copy in infoboxes from the articles in German Wikipedia. If you want to help, even just for a few articles, look at the instructions and links here Article Assessment: There are now way over 26.000 articles tagged as part of our Wikiproject and many still need either an importance or a quality assessment. Also there are many more out there that do need to be tagged like approx 8000 municipalities. If you would like to help take a browse through Articles needing Importance assessment or Articles needing a basic quality assessment.

Phosphorus

Please stop adding misinformation into articles. Phosphorus does not react violently with water and Phosphorus is not stored under petroleum, it is stored under water.Pyrotec (talk)}

Sodium is stored under Petrol Ether, which is a name for several petroleum fractions with a lower boiling point. Typically, we took PE60/80 for this purpose

I checked my copy of "The COTTON", and is showed the same thing. However, we _did_ store WP under petroleum; the reason would be that the disproportion reaction shown above, though occurring at a very slow speed at RT, causes contamination of the p.a. pure WP with other P-compounds, especially (meta-)polyphosphates. For standard use this would indeed not be a great problem, if you need very exact quantities of WP, however, such impurities could cause problems.

As I said, we could discuss everything in good faith. I think, this is it, don't you?

Your quoted reaction is that phosphorus in alkaline aqueous solution reacts to produce phosphine and a hypophosphorous ion. Well it might happen very slowly in water at a normal pH; and it is a potential mechanism in the breakdown of white phosphorus weapons, or red phosphorus, in long term storage. White phosphorus does not dissolve or react with water even when there are thousands of tons of phosphorus. Albright and Wilson, for example transported molten white phosphorus under water from Newfoundland, by ship, to England - in bulk tankers; and it was also transported by rail tanker under water. Phosphine is usually generated from calcium phosphide and water, which is generally is impure, and produced spontaneously flammable gases; pure phosphine is (was) produced from e.g. magnesium phosphide, zinc phosphide, or magnesium-aluminium phosphide (and water). Sorry, but I did consider your statement, and its addition to several articles, that white phosphorus is stored under petroleum was highly irresponsible - it is almost napalm. If for any reason a piece of white phosphorus becomes dry and ignition starts then potentially all the phosphorus and the all petroleum will go up like napalm.Pyrotec (talk) 11:38, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing.
