Brendan Burke

Please keep the article on Brendan Burke. I don't live in Canada. I do know who Brendan Burke is however. He is notable as a gay rights activist who used his RELATIONSHIP with his father (undoubtedly a more famous person) to bring attention to the causes that he believed in. I submit that hockey fans (even those of us living outside of Canada) and people that have been following gay rights activism DO know who he is and consider him to be relevant. Hey Lou, sorry I didn't respond. I didn't see that you had posted (too many new notifications, haha). Wow, I didn't see any of the articles referring to this debate. You think everyone talking about them would have been a tip off, eh? Anywho, no problem about the article fixing process. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it and observe some other articles and good articles. Story picked up...

I think so. At least it's the oldest that I know of. I would feel a lot better if LOGO would check it out though. They have CBS News sources that verify everything. Still, The Advocate is a step in the right direction.

LOL. I was so anxious to update the article because I was convinced of the truth, but now I want to double check. Oy, now I don't want to let down the Wiki community by jumping the gun. Do you think we should wait until a mainstream news agency picks it up (because I kind of do now)?

Argh, I am 98% certain they are they are obviously the same person. I did notice the Arthur Goldberg on the NARTH page uses JD (instead of Esq., Att., or Atty. which would be illegal if he has been disbarred). Then again if they really were different people, there is the possibility the one that works for NARTH never passed the Bar.

OK, I really DO feel better about triple checking all this. I think that I can now say with 100% certainty that the two Arthur Goldbergs MUST be the same person.

I concluded this strangely enough, using the guy's own press release, I am now confident that they are the same individual. The law source that I found says the ex-con was disbarred in New Jersey. The NARTH Arthur Goldberg has this on his Newsletter citation, "University of Connecticut and past deputy attorney general of New Jersey." The JD now makes sense on the NARTH page. If he used any other credentials, he could be prosecuted for fraud (again).

Also, he tried to use his letters of recommend regarding his being an advocate for former Eastern block Jews to mitigate his disbarment before the New Jersey Supreme court. In his newsletter, the NARTH Arthur Goldberg says he was "an advocate for Soviet Jewish émigrés in the 70s and 80s".

I won't make any changes until I hear back from you, but this does seem conclusive. I trust your judgment on this more than my own (I hate how I was totally over the top emotional earlier -I swear, until I reread what I wrote, I thought I was being objective).

Don't sweat it TOO much. Per WP:DEADLINE you can always wait until tomorrow to add it. If he's not the same person, he should be screaming bloody murder through a PR person by then. I'm relatively certain that he's the same guy at this point, too. Jclemens (talk) 03:59, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

I agree. LOL, the Wikipedia story on him is being discussed in the blogs (or at least "Ann Jonah"'s changes). Apparently, the new middle name means the same thing as Abba. They both mean "father" They are speculating that he, or someone close to him, made the changes to throw people off the scent. How the heck do people know everything as soon as it happens? Oh I hope not. I come across as pretty self involved at the beginning of all this. I guess I forgot that this isn't like email. That would explain why the blogs know what has happened here. Heh. I would hope that's what it looks like to an uninvolved outsider. I'm still checking GNews periodically. I don't see any new stories--the connection seems to be reported in the gay press (for lack of a better term) but not yet by anyone else--essentially unchanged from last night. I see that the Miami Herald comes up now, but the link is actually to a blog there by Miami Herald staff writer Steve Rothaus. He is basically reprinting the story from the South Florida Gay News. He must be fairly certain of the veracity of the story. I also see that the article "Arthur A. Goldberg" was restored on Wikipedia (I assumed it was always a redirect. Admittedly, I never looked into that articles history for changes).

Blah, I was reading the court literature of the Arthur Abba Goldberg cases. He is an absolutely detestable human being. That much I am certain of. He has a history of lying, stealing, and then lying again to cover his actions. He showed a real disregard for any who he was hurting.

Yeah, someone else was putting the same info in at that page. Someone else started an AfD for it Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arthur A. Goldberg, but I just !voted keep on the basis of our collaborative look at things here. Jclemens (talk) 00:25, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know that. I voted keep as well. I see that the article on Arthur A Goldberg still says "convicted felon" in the introduction, yet the story has been removed from the body of the article. It will definitely need a lot of editing, but the man is notable (in an infamy sort of way).

Just noticed. Only one new GNews source since this morning, and a POV blog rather than an RS, but it serves to reinforce they're the same. Jclemens (talk) 05:01, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

I found some blogs that have written about it that don't show up under Gnews, but they all cite the Southern Florida News (oh, and one of the blogs that I found did some of the original research -ie digging up the old newspaper articles) and the Truth Wins Out site. The one thing I want to see is a confirmation that they are the same man.

They are the same age. They both have law degrees. They both helped former Soviet Jews relocate to New Jersey in the 1970s. They both live in the same state. That would be one HECK of a coincidence if they were indeed different people. Someone has to be able to get a positive verification on this eventually.
