Toyota F1 - featured article standard

Let's get Toyota F1's Wikipedia page to featured article standard!

Toyota is my favourite F1 team, and I wish for their article to be the ultimate article. I keep up my edits, lets see what others can do.

Lradrama 19:10, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

If you want to get Toyota F1 to FA status, may I offer some suggestions for how to proceed?
  1. It's a process you'll need to lead - Wikipedia is very 'freeform' and unless you drive the article on, it won't keep improving.
  2. Look at the best articles out there - there is a list of featured and 'good' F1 articles on the WP:F1 page. Study those and see what others have done and consider whether you can replicate it for the Toyota page. Brabham (FA) and Fittipaldi Automotive (GA) are the most relevant to what you wish to do. (I have to declare a strong interest in both articles at this point!). See also Wikipedia:Featured_articles#Sport_and_recreational_activities for other FA sports articles.
  3. Also check out Wikipedia:Article_development for more ideas.
  4. It's normally useful to get views from many other people, both those familiar with Formula One, and those who are not. One way of doing this is the Peer Review process. Why not try listing Toyota F1 for a Peer Review to elicit suggestions for improving it to GA standard? Peer Review often does not bring up many responses - so try leaving a note at WP:F1 and WP:JAPAN to say that the article is up for Peer Review and why not Peer Review someone else's article from the list and leave them a note asking them (nicely!) to return the favour.
  5. Having done that and considered whatever suggestions you get, then try listing the article for Good Article status. You may have a problem doing this during the season, since stability is one of the criteria, and the article will change quite a lot as the season goes on.
  6. By then you should be in a good position to think about FA status, but may want another round of reviewing by other editors to confirm your thoughts.
  7. Enjoy it! 4u1e 8 March 2007, 15:48

F1`/Alonso

Hi. You've raised a few issues, let me try and address them all.

  • Please don't feel "embarassed" - that certainly wasn't my intention.
  • Yes, it's a fact that Alonso's success has helped F1 for the reasons you mentioned, however "Alonso's success attracted millions of new Spanish fans, which was very good for Formula 1" is a very strong statement. You and I can agree it's a fact, however someone who has no knowledge of F1 will not take that as a given. This is a featured article we are talking about, and the introduction of uncited material will, if unchecked, lead to a challenge to its FA status. In summary, it needs a reference.
  • To be honest you made a better case on my talk page than you did with the edit in question.
  • Finally while I have conceded that it is a fact that Alonso's success has been good for F1, it's not up to an encyclopedia to state what is good and what isn't. The best way to go about is something like "given the success of Fernando Alonso, average F1 viewing figures in Spain have risen by X%" or "attendance at the 2006 Spanish Grand Prix was up Y%" etc. etc. That way we are making no assertion about "good" or "bad", we are presenting facts and letting the reader make up their mind. Daniel Radcliffe

Wikipedia's verifiability policy makes clear that the "threshold for inclusion ... is verifiability, not truth." You state that Radcliffe has confirmed his involvement in all Potter films; do you have a reliable source for this assertion? RadioKirk (u|t|c) 20:11, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Before I prove myself, there are two reasons why I would not lie on Wikipedia on this subject;

  • I am an honest person, and spend much of my time reverting abuse on the website, so I wouldn't mess others about...
  • I am an actor myself (albeit in training), and I know lots about Daniel Radcliffe, seen as he is one of those professionals who inspire me (I contributed lots of my extensive acting knowledge to the acting page.)

These are proof of my comment;

Enjoy reading... Lradrama 20:51, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Edits to Acting

There's really no need to apologise to Mathris for reverting his/her edits as that user's contribution was just linkspam (see WP:LINKS)--in fact, adding spam links is all that user has done. The articles Actor and Acting seem to attract a significant amount of spam and otherwise undesirable links, and, since you seem to be a prominent contributor to the latter article, you might want to keep an eye on what gets added to the "Suggested reading" section. Yesterday, that section was burdened with seven external links--rubbish every one of them. Regards, --ShelfSkewed [Talk] 13:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for reverting my user page. I was actually on at the time he vandalized it, but I was busy looking over the history of today's featured article to make sure none of the vandals altered any other pages. That makes vandalism number two, and I didn't even provoke this one (I reverted the first vandal's edit to Uranium). --LuigiManiac | Talk 12:16, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I was just wondering how to get the | icon up. Lradrama 13:00, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Do you mean this: "|"? Now that I look at the wikicode, it looks like it. Well, it actually should be on your keyboard. On my fairly standard keyboard it is on the same key as this slash: \. Just try pressing Shift + Whatever-key-you-have-\-on and you should get it. On my keyboard the key is on the same row as the numbers, immediately to the left of the backspace key. I hope this helps. --LuigiManiac | Talk 13:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
There's a thread on this at the bottom of the Help Desk at the moment; shift-\ and Alt Gr-` are the two most likely ways you might have to type it, and you can also click on the '|' in the box of symbols below the 'Save page' button (it's on the 'Wiki markup' row). --ais523 13:44, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Toyota F1

I noticed you'd want to know over at the toyota talk page if any improvements can be made. It's OK, but I dislike the notable drivers section, mainly because no other team pages have that, look at McLaren, WilliamsF1 or Scuderia Ferrari, that section isn't included. Davnel03 18:37, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and thankyou for taking time to analyse the Toyota F1 article. 4u1e has given me lots of help to get this article to a very good standard. My aim is to ultimately get this article to FA status.
Included in the guidelines, I was told to replicate as much as possible that was possible from Brabham (Featured Article) and Fittipaldi Automotive (Good Article), and the 'notable drivers section' came from the latter. Being a 'good article', I thought a notable drivers section for the Toyota F1 article would be good.
However, if you think this will hamper the article's chances, please let me know why. Thanks Lradrama 18:22, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi - sorry to butt in on the conversation! I wrote most (all?) of the Fittipaldi Automotive article, but I'm not so certain now about the Notable drivers section, which I haven't replicated for Brabham. Fittipaldi is due a rewrite at some point, and I may remove that section at that point and put the information somewhere else. I guess it depends whether the drivers are truly notable (Fittipaldi and Rosberg are both world champions....) and whether the information can live elsewhere. If you're replicating information already given elsewhere, it's probably not a good idea. Cheers. 4u1e 19:12, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
I wouldn't call this an uproar! I don't feel strongly against it myself, but I didn't want you to think that it was an established 'standard' for team articles, when it's really just an idea I had one day, and one about which I have a few reservations. I'll have a read of your version and let you know what I think of the specific content that you have come up with, which is the important thing here. Cheers. 4u1e 17:15, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
OK Thanks (yes, I admit, 'uproar' was rather a strong word to use...  ;-) ) Lradrama 17:25, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for providing your views on the matter. You see, it seemed the most obvious one to replicate for the time being, but seen as it's caused such an uproar, it'll probably go within a few days.
I'll probably get the 'Sponsorship' section improved next - it looks pathetic being a small paragraph and could be so much more. Thanks Lradrama 17:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I've left some comments at talk:Toyota F1. Keep up the good work! 4u1e 17:44, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Help

Dear Lradrama,

I really want to know what are hyperlinks? Please reply I really want to know. From J W Happyfeet (J w happy feet 21:02, 2 April 2007 (UTC))

As you can see, the header to this reply message is in blue. It goes underline when you move the curser over it, and it signals a 'hot' area on which you can click (left click) to access another page within a website. The hyperlink above takes you to a Wikipedia article on 'hyperlinks' themselves (being within Wikipedia it is an internal link). External links in Wikipedia take you to websites outside this one. For example, on the Toyota F1 article, an external link could take you to www.toyota.com, or, on the Daniel Radcliffe article, an external link could take you to www.danradcliffe.com, etc - a website with nothing to do with Wikipedia.
Internal links are easy to create - just put [[ ]] either side of a word, and it'll turn blue creating a hyperlink to anther Wikipedia article.
External links are more difficult to construct - start by placing [ infront of the website address and then a : and a clearer indication to where the hyperlink takes you. Then close with a ].
I hope this has helped. If you need further help & assistance, ask at the helpdesk. Lradrama 17:22, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Warning Vandals (please!)

Thank you for reverting vandalism to Wikipedia, which you did in Blue. After you revert, I would recommend also warning the users whose edits you revert on their talk pages with an appropriate template or custom message. This will serve to direct new users towards the sandbox, educate them about Wikipedia, and a stern warning to a vandal may prevent him or her from vandalizing again. Thank you. --Auto(talk / contribs) 18:13, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and I'd like to thank you too for your great work on Wikipedia, fighting vandalism.
I do regularly patrol the recent changes section, and I do regularly warn vandals; I have a stock of warning templates in my 'storecupboard' (see my userpage links).
However, with the Blue situation, he was vandalising so fast, I didn't get chance to talk to him. Everytime I was about to access his talkpage with a template ready to sick on, he'd made about 2 more edits.
I've given him a last warning now. Cheers Lradrama 18:18, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, sorry about that... he was going so fast I didn't have time to look at your history for the sake of a friendly notice... :)
Why should one never wish a Thespian good luck? --Auto(talk / contribs) 18:23, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Ah... I see you've been reading my userboxes! Well, I simply chose that userbox because I'm an actor (A-Level standard as of yet...) and it'd goes well with my 'themes'.
To be honest, I don't really mind of I'm wished "good luck", it's just been added on because it's a theatrical superstitions. You might want to read that article...spooky... for me anyway! Lradrama 18:29, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Apologies

My apologies, you haven't (as I'm sure you're aware!) said anything wrong. I've just gotten rather tied up with Michael Schumacher at the moment!

Try these for a start, although they're biased towards cars and probably more towards ancient history than current events:

Beyond that, the following are probably rather more useful for what you've got in mind:

  • news.bbc.co.uk You'll have to use the search function for older stuff.
  • www.formula1.com The 'official' F1 site: news, features and race results. Older race results contain a fair few errors, unfortunately, but stuff from 2000 should be OK.
  • www.fia.com The site of the FIA, motorsports' governing body. Might find useful stuff in the press releases, for example. Bit hard to navigate around, I find.
  • grandprix.com Very comprehensive site, with its own motorsport encyclopedia. There's a story on the front page at the moment about Toyota's industrial espionage indiscretion. DON'T (as some others have done!) cut and paste stuff from this (or any other) site. I'm sure you know that, it's just that I see more copyright violations from this site than any other, for some reason. :)
  • www.timesonline.co.uk Like the other newspaper sites (Guardian, Independent, Telegraph) has a search function (somewhere!) which you can use to look for past stories. The Times online archive goes back the furthest, but any of the newspaper sites would cover the period you're looking at. I tend to use broadsheet sites, but perhaps that's just bias on my part!
  • www.autocoursef1.com Website of the publishers of the definitive season summaries. I never find this as useful as I think I will, but I'm usually looking for older stuff than you, so that may not be relevant.
  • www.autosport.com Online edition of the print magazine.

Hope those give you something useful. Don't hesitate to contact me if I can help with anything else (and don't hesitate to remind me if I don't respond at first!) 4u1e 09:49, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

One thing to bear in mind is that some sites don't carry the stories for very long, either deleting them or moving them into a paid for archive. From memory, I think this applies to autosport and the newspaper sites other than the Times. This can make them less useful as references, although it doesn't invalidate them altogether. 4u1e 09:53, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Ta very much

Collingham article

Hi there, I'd just like to draw your attention to the entry on the town of Collingham, Notts which you recently reverted. I'm not sure if you noticed but the content you replaced the vandalism with is almost as bad as it's hideously POV and not suited to an encyclopaedia at all. Unjust blocking

How can someone block a wikipedian with over 1500 good edits and with 2 barnstars to his name and who is respected within the wikipedia community? It's maddening. I operate from home and college - the latter being a shared IP. The point of having an account is to differ from vandals. I see no reason to block me. Lradrama 12:30, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

True but this is an Autoblock and only the Admin that blocked you would be able to unblock you if you give him a valid reason using the {{unblock}} template----Cometstyles 12:37, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I have no way of identifying potential collateral damage when a user is blocked. Your assumption is correct, autoblocks extend to all IPs recently used by a banned account, regardless of the nature of the IP. I've modified User:Yo Yo B's account to disable the IP block. Your college IP should be able to log-in now, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 21:15, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

For your information...

Player IS a term describing actors. It is less common now but durng the early days of sound cinema, it was used almostall the time during the credits. I am going to put it back if you don't mind. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.109.187.202 (talk) 14:09, 14 May 2007 (UTC).

I know it can be a term used to describe an actor, I know an amateur dramatic society near my home called Oswaldtwistle Players. My point was is that it is less common now, so it maybe unnecessary in the introduction, although I said you could comment on it further on in the article. Never mind, I'm not starting a revert war, so we'll see what others think about it - you ARE correct regarding your terminology though. Lradrama 13:14, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

editing Hans Teeuwen

Hello Lradrama, You have quickly and effectively removed my changes from the Hans Teeuwen page. As I have just written a biografy on Hans Teeuwen for his comedy collective Comedytrain I felt free to make some adjustments to the Wikipedia page on this Dutch comedian. The information I added was correct and came directly from the source. If you still feel my contribution is not welcome I will of course respect that. But it will discourage me form adding to other Wikipedia comedian pages on dutch comedians I know very well and very much about. --Evazwaving 09:25, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much for not getting angry or vandalising my userpage like lots of people do to RC Patrollers. A mistake on RC Patrol is a common occurance, so thankyou for understanding. Please carry on editing - you see I don't anything about this comedian. Looking back, I don't think your edits were too bad. Once again, thanks for contacting me, and I'm sorry about the revert. Proceed, by all means. Lradrama 09:31, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Do not worry, I'll come back. It's just that I've been to busy to re-edit Hans Teeuwen, but I will continue to look trough the Dutch comedy section and add some information. As staff member of the biggest Dutch comedy collective I think I might actually be able to make some valuable contributions:-) Thanks for the incouragement.

Hope your A level exams are going well. See ya around! :-) Regards. Will (aka Wimt) 20:04, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Good luck with your exams on Wed. Thanks for the reply, and, happy editing! Lradrama 20:47, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Userpage revert

Thanks for that revert. Vandals seem to have the run of the place at the moment... Cheers. -- Longhair\talk 08:51, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

You're very welcome - that particular vandal has now been blocked ;-) Lradrama 08:52, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
I know - I took the pleasure in blocking them myself ;) -- Longhair\talk 08:52, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Good work :-) Lradrama 08:53, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Undersheriff

undersheriff: Nothing deleted, something added. Please don't be so fast as to assume someone's culpability as a vandal. Assume = Make an Ass of You and Me.--71.242.127.31 14:08, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Sorry about that, but mistakes are inevitable on RC Patrol. Thanks for not vandalising my userpage like most people do. Once again sorry. Lradrama 14:11, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
No sweat. --71.242.127.31 14:14, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Cheers for the good luck message this morning. :-) All my exams are at least finally over now so I have finally been able to get rid of that Wikibreak box! I'm totally exhausted now though so it'll probably take me a good few days to recover! Hope everything is going well. See ya. Will (aka Wimt) 17:04, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, hope you did well! Lradrama 08:48, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

For reverting the vandalism to my user page. =) The vandal is very persistent. -- • Kurt Guirnela •Talk 10:07, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

You're very welcome. Service with a smile! Lradrama 10:08, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

California high speed rail

People need to see this alternative. The governor is against high speed rail as it is, and it will be impossible to pass $40 bln down our throats, there will be compromise ten years from now, and they will decide that what I proposed today ($10 bln deal that does 98% of the $40 bln) looks very similar what they will try to pass through legislature in a decade. I don't wanna wait an extra 10 years for people to compromise while we all whine, support the killing of Iraq and destroying of the environment, this always happens, and that's why California sucks so much today, we have no transport options, and I'm extremely angry for this state's collective incompetence!

Sky Angel

I got a message that you recently reverted the changes made on the Sky Angel page. PLease allow for the links to IPTV to remain as Sky Angel has just announced that it is going to IPTV and I thought the links would be useful and didn't have time to write on the page that news. I deleted the Controversies section b/c it had horrible grammar. I'm not trying to censor anyone, and I even tried to fix the grammar on the controversies section. If it needs to stay up, that's fine, but can you leave up the links to IPTV. They are not harmful at all. Thanks.

OK that's fine. ;-) Lradrama 15:20, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

I think I've got it right this time ! :-)

Ok - now I've done the disambiguation for Prowler a different way... I'm sure you'll let me know if I got it wrong again ! Apologies from the idiot newbie :-)

Oh, there's no need to call yourself an idiot newbie!! I was just as hapless when I first started because I didn't know what was what. I caused some almightly stir ups (I even created an article on myself, not something you're supposed to do, which got deleted, and boy was I informed of that!) Ask me if you need any help, or, because I'm still learning - even those who've been on this website since 2001 are still learning - I'll ask for you at the help desk ;-). Happy editing and have a good time! Lradrama 15:20, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey anytime

Some say it must be a sign that you are doing good work helping wikipedia if that happens :| SatuSuro 15:26, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Hardly - there are many in the latest count between 34 and 18 thousand who are all hard workers indeed! but thanks anyways SatuSuro 15:32, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you for reverting vandal edits on Jay Chou! SeleneFN 16:03, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

You're very welcome! Service with a smile! My userpage has already been vandalised twice today do to reverting vandalism and warning the idiots who put it there. Lradrama 16:12, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar

Thanks. I think "obsessive compulsive" is the term you're looking for :-) DH85868993 12:30, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Hehe, you're welcome! Lradrama 09:27, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Ok then. Thanks for letting me know anyway. I Should often let the user who reverts the vandalism warn them, if they get round to it, thanks. Francisco Tevez 10:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar

Thanks for the barnstar. It makes a nice change from the usual stuff that people seem to want to say to me. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 22:16, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

You're very welcome! Lradrama 08:29, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanx for the welcome!

I've already been reading the articles you suggested. I've also been using Wikipedia for a few years and I've often been tempted to edit before because I often notice spelling and grammatical errors. If you've been checking my edits, do you have any specific comments about them?

Your user page certainly says a lot about you; enough that I know I like you already. I share most of your values, except that I don't pay much attention to F1. The only sport I follow with passion is NHL hockey - not a big draw on your side of the pond, eh? I might have become an actor like you except that, in the immortal words of Marty McFly, "What if nobody likes my work? I just don't think I could handle that kind of rejection!"

Feel free to offer any suggestions that come to mind. I welcome your tutelage.

Firstly, I would like to praise you for three things.
  • You're the first person to have said thank you for the initial welcome message, and in turn, I'll thank you for that.  :-)
  • And I would like to thank you for saying nice things about me and my userpage, and it's nice to know something about you.
  • And I would like to praise your edits you've made to this encyclopedia. I've noticed spelling corrections and hyperlink work, all of which is much valued and very useful.
Once again, welcome to Wikipedia, and I hope you'll stay because I can see now, very clearly, that you'll be a very good Wikipedian. You do meet some nutters along the way, even experienced Wikipedians can get up your nose (I hate it when people don't say thank you for barnstars I've awarded them), but don't let it bother you - it's not real life after all!
I hope to see you lots, and you can ask me any questions you have. However, I myself have only been on Wikipedia since January, and am still having to ask lots and lots of questions to other experienced users, who are happy to help. I recommend the help-desk or using that help-me function described obove if I can't help, and if that is the case, I would be very, very sorry.
Happy editing! ;-) Lradrama 09:32, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the barnstar. Have a nice week and God bless:)--†Sir James Paul† 09:46, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the wiki-love message. You have a lovely week too. Happy editing, with regards, Lradrama 09:52, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi back and thank you

Hi Lradrama Thank you for the welcome message. I was just setting up my user page at the time and it was a nice welcome - thank you (Fiona from Australia)

You're very welcome! Lradrama 09:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

As regards my edits to Tycoon (TV series)...

Thanks for your welcome, but you did act rather hastily in reverting my edit to Tycoon (TV series) [3] and, worse, declaring it "vandalism" and issuing a "1st warning". The edit in question was not vandalism. It was constructive, relevant and corrected what was previously a rather misleading sentence added (in good faith) by another editor who did not have access to the full facts. It may not have been properly sourced at the time (though the same could be said of the sentence as it stood before I edited it), but nevertheless I do not expect accusations of vandalism for making a perfectly innocuous and constructive edit. -88.111.14.150 11:04, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Please accept my apologies. Mistakes on RC Patrol are common, and I'm sorry to have caused you trouble. Lradrama 16:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
