Request for archive sorting
Hi Feba. I fixed your archives like you requested on the help desk. I moved /Old to /Archive 1, and /A2 to /Archive 2, and created a small box like the one above this text. Of course, you can replace the box to another archive box like {{archive box}}. I'd also recommend setting up an auto-archiving service – MiszaBot II provides one. See details on setting this up at this page. I hope this helps, +spebi ~ 08:45, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

I tried, very frustrating
Hey, Just spent hours last night trying to improve an article about which I know a fair amount, after being asked by the original author to do so. This morning it had reverted back to the original unsatisfactory version. I need better feedback why you thought this lowered the quality of the article and also why the references weren't adequate. Help me out here. thanks. I even checked with one of the help forums before I did it to see if there would be any problem and did what they suggested. I used other similar bios (shunryu Suzuki) to model my changes on.

I read the page you linked to on Deskana's page, but I still don't know what to do to be able to see the font correctly...Tex02:35, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I understand you're frustrated, I am too, but this probably isn't the best way to go. He removed that comment from his talk page, I think perhaps you should let that be. Suggesting Conservapedia was perhaps a good idea, but you're perhaps dismissing him a bit too much. --ɐuɐʞsəp (ʞɿɐʇ) 03:48, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Wow.. looks good :) Very well done :> Andrij Kursetsky ⊗ 18:56, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- Didn't quite work in the diff window though! I couldn't make heads or tails of it at first, until I actually viewed the page. --Deskana (talk) 18:59, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- To make it clear (I already mentioned this on Andrij's talk page, might as well state it here too), the actual ASCII Art was handled by figlet, I just realized that something that screams out to vandals would probably be better there. And huh, so that's what the admin buttons look like. --ʇuǝɯɯoɔɐqǝɟ 19:01, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

For Profit
Hi Feba, i hope this is right way to post a message. I am new to wikipedia editing. I request you to add "for-profit" to (NOWC) because it is one, in Switzerland (and some other countries) a Corporation can be both for-profit or non-profit. Inthis case they are "For Profit" and the public needs to know. Please check the discussion page of the article. You will find the sources and lot of material to uncover the scam. General public needs to know reality. Here is a direct reference from their site -- Business Opportunities. This is part of big deception. NOWC is "for profit", while N7WF is "non profit" and "NOWF" is a third entity that runs their web. Please help me.--Snjv 17:25, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm just saying...
...that rating are important to how movies are treated. If just the US rating is biased or whatever add all ratings to the template. That all I'm saying and I'll leave it at that.--Hornetman16 22:50, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Reference Desk
Thanks for the assistance defusing an angry editor at the reference desks. It made it easier for everyone to have a neutral third-party to clean up his angry posts (I would have liked to delete his posts as well, but I imagine it would have turned into some sort of edit war). I do not know what I have done to trigger this sort of thing, so I will try to just ignore that editor in the future. Thanks, Nimur 04:18, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I saw this response on the Help Desk and nearly fell over laughing. Thank you for brightening up my day! Please continue to use your sparkling wit to help us dredge through some of the more asinine questions we get at the Help Desk. Hersfold (talk/work) 17:50, 7 July 2007 (UTC) |
- P.S. - I don't mean to imply that the question you responded to was asinine in any way - I'm pretty sure Astro was being sarcastic. Nonetheless, your response was quite amusing and we would all benefit if we had more people like you helping out there. Thanks. Hersfold (talk/work) 17:50, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Meaning of life
You removed a large section of the article that has been part of it for a long time (over a year). I object to the deletion of that section. Therefore, you do not have consensus for the removal. Please bring the issue to the talk page. The Transhumanist 21:53, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

ark linux / xubuntu
well my computer is running at 500mhz(a bit slower then i want =P ) and has about 500kbs of ram from both the graphics card and ram. i'm thinking of switching of this build of linux because i wish to wipe my hard drive, and don't have the time to re-download all the information from xubuntu, as opposed to the files that i just finished downloading for ark Linux. and the way they described the security settings such that the computer will basically not let me screw my machine up. no access to the root directory(which is basically why i am wiping my hard drive). as for games on linux, they would be cool, but i'm a ra1 and 2 fan, with a second son named halo(i have no clue how it runs on my cpu, but i only can play lan games on it right now anyways). thanks for your help, i look forward to hearing if my computer will die anytime soon =P
- Yeah, that computer can run linux, but probably not anything you'd consider user friendly. You *need* to access your root directory for some things, I'm not sure why you think your hard drive is messed up because you do, unless you tried to format c:. As far as your RAM goes, do you mean 500MB? 500 kb is insanely low, as in pre-486 low. That computer is very old, you can run basic programs on it, but I highly doubt you could run Halo, even in XP, especially not to a point you'd want to play online. I'd really recommend you buy a new PC if you want to play games. Dell sells good Ubuntu-preinstalled computers, at good prices. If you can't afford that, you could tell me where you live and how much you can spend, and I can look at craigslist in your area for a good used PC. --Laugh! 15:00, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

An offensive comment of yours
The comment of yours that was on the User:R/Single Letter Group page, "Hopefully our Japanese wikipedians won't get User:R and I mixed up" is extremely inappropriate and harmful to our collaborative atmosphere. Never mock mispronunciation stereotypes again. Picaroon (Talk) 03:01, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- How dare you replace it. Honestly, do you have any concept for the fact we're a multi-lingual project and that your comment could be seen as offensive? Daniel 11:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

On the now-deleted request for comment that was started by J about this situation earlier, I commented that this was a good situation to apply Hanlon's razor; that is, everyone should assume that your comments were not malicious, in that you did not intend to be offensive, but simply stupid, in that you were trying to be humourous without considering that people would probably be offended by what you said. O and U have apologised for their parts in this whole debacle, and I call on you to apologise for yours. --bainer (talk) 11:46, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I'm not going to apologize for people that do not understand a joke taking it the wrong way. I will admit that "Japanese Wikipedians" sent the message of Japanese people, and not "People reading in Japanese", but I will not apologize for people that haven't even read our own article on Japanese language taking it the wrong way. A joke about the french being cowards, or mexicans being modern-day slaves is racist. A comment on the differences between languages is not --Laugh! 11:50, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
There are many comments about differences between languages that are not racist, and can be appropriate and even funny. That doesn't mean that similar comments in other situations are not offensive. It's not only people who don't understand where the joke comes from that believes this. 私も日本語を勉強しました。Context can be everything. Wikipedia is not the place for jokes that may be offensive, no matter how innocent they might be. JPD (talk) 12:02, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I am sorry to hear that you are taking a Wikibreak, although it is good if you are feeling undue stress from any aspect of the project. I hope to see you resume editing in the near future. Regards, Newyorkbrad 19:30, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you. It's not Wikipedia so much as a single editor, but it's really not a ton of stress from Wiki. There's a lot of stress coming from a lot of sources right now, and not having to deal with arguments over notability or interpretations of policies will hopefully help. I might still make a few small namespace edits and such, or answer RD, but I probably won't do much else. Wikipedia is probably between 1-5% of my stress right now, but it's the only thing I can just drop -Laugh! 19:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Why do you think this article meets the criteria for speedy deletion? Have you done any research whatsoever on the topic of the article? Recurring dreams 02:14, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- I am aware of the speedy deletion criteria. I am also aware that people often do not bother to do any research before adding these tags or taking articles to AFD. Have you done any research to establish that the subject is not notable, except simply making the blanket statement that the son or daughter of a notable person cannot be notable? Recurring dreams 02:19, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Here is a google search [1]. This is of course ignoring the fact that the vast majority of sources won't be online (many Bangladeshi publications and research is not yet on the web), and will be in another language (Bengali). Recurring dreams 02:23, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Um, no. The onus isn't on me. You thought the subject of the article fulfilled the criteria for speedy deletion, it is up to you to demonstrate why it did. You need to do at least some minimal research (it takes a couple of seconds to do a google search) before taking a page to afd, and certainly tagging with speedy deletion. Recurring dreams 02:26, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- You can gain reliable sources, including this one [2] to back up the first line of the page. Don't tell me you've looked through the thousands of google results and only come up with blog posts? Again, the onus is on you to do some minimal research before tagging a page. You clearly need to give a justification, just like you would at AFD. Does the page have problems? Yes. So fix it. Recurring dreams 02:31, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Bipolar
It's all right—I'm not doing too horribly now (I think I posted that well over six months ago). Sometimes I can go off medication for two weeks or so, but if I start getting too bad I go right back on it. Oh, and your "wanting to scratch the paint off the walls one moment and just lie on your bed and do nothing the next" gave me a real good laugh by the way. :) — $PЯIПGrαgђ 00:14, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
