Hi, welcome to wikipedia. BAed on what you write, and what I know, you seem pretty knowladgeble about weaponry. Would be nice to have someone take a good look at the viking armor page on that. Kim van der Linde at venus 21:35, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome, Kim. I'm afraid that, whilst I have an academic interest in Medieval Weapons and Armour, I'm no expert on the Viking period (whatever that might be). However, I would be happy to help with the Viking Weapons and Armour Wikipedia Article if no other more qualified individual steps forward in the near future. I should be able to find the time towards the end of the month to give it some attention. --M.J.Stanham 00:38, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I will do the same, I certainly have the more practical experience as a reenacter. I will contact a friend of me about this, he would a weapeons addict.... Kim van der Linde at venus 02:46, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey Kim. I haven't bee able to access the internet for the last month or so, so I haven't been able to help with the article. Did you add the link to that excellent Viking weapons and Armour Web Page? It was really very informative. I'm afraid I haven't had time to research the subject much myself, the books I had to hand weren't very useful, though I did glean this and that fact. I gave Beowulf another read, looking out especially for weapons and armour and such, which was a useful supplement, particularly Beowulf's final encounter with the Dragon. I was only using Seamus Heany's translation, however, so I'm not sure what the 'Dagger' he has to hand is, perhaps a HondSeax? Hopefully not. Interestingly Lazamon uses 'HondSeax' in his Brut in a description of the weapons of a king that in addition include, spear, sword, axe and bow. I'll try to find some time this month. Personal question

edit

So was Dave right in his assumption that your native language is German? You don't have a babelbox on your user page, afterall. On the other hand, he also seemed to assume that I was not a native English speaker, and I am. --Iustinus 15:47, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, my native language is English, though I do speak a bit of German. I just find it convenient to use capitals when discussing arms and armour or, indeed, types of soldiery. It's a personal note taking habit that found its way onto the Internet; it doesn't generally make it into my academic work, though I do slip up on occasion... --M.J.Stanham 16:24, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
