Some cookies to welcome you!

Welcome to Wikipedia, MJeanHellyer! I am Orangemarlin and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. Thank you for your contributions. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions check out Wikipedia:Questions, or feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or type {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. Again, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome

I have never contributed to Wikipedia before but have long been an admirer of it. I was impelled to begin adding to the site in response to the bias on the Canadian political scene introduced, no doubt, by Canadian conservatives.

It is still really a struggle for me...no clue what I am doing, really, just trying to create a more even playing field. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MJeanHellyer (talkcontribs) 02:52, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I thought I'd reply here, since I'm not sure you're used to the page watching thing. First of all, don't worry about what you're doing right or wrong. As long as you're not vandalizing, you'll all right. It took years to learn about 1% of the things I can do here. I'm not sure anyone knows every little corner of Wikipedia. I agree that this place has a lot of awful articles. Maybe 1% of the articles are worthy of serious research. However, since Wikipedia is often at the top of every search result, we either ignore it, or we try to make it better. I work on medical articles, because I thought they were a travesty. But I don't have the time in my life to work on them all, so I've focused on a few. Do what you can. The above links are great for figuring out things. Use WP:CITET to creat citations, but you don't have to. It just makes it cleaner. Always use reliable sources and verify everuything. Also, don't forget to sign with ~~~~ (four tildes). A bot will sign for you, but it's better to do it yourself. Ask questions of me here, if you need anything, I watch your page. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 03:33, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure I 'get' the signing thing. Does that mean I should end each post with the tildes? I don't think you mean that since I don't see those anywhere else.

Thanks for the info on the citations. I think I am doing it more or less right...at least the links work and I've created footnotes. I see what you mean by the repeated refs.

Hi there, sorry if I'm butting in here, but just a little info on your question about signing. You don't have to sign posts when adding text to articles, just when you're editing talk pages. Cmr08 (talk) 04:51, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

2011 Canadian Federal Election

edit

Just letting you know I've reverted your addition to the Issues section because it is considered a Controversy. I suggest that you add it in the controversy section. If you disagree, the best thing to do is to bring it up on the talk page, and reach consensus there before adding your material again. This is standard per Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. --33rogers (talk) 18:48, 23 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't actually done editing it yet. It did need fixing but I'm not sure what is controversial about this. Its just another issue. Is there a suggestion that the attacks on signs and cars didn't happen?

In case you are unaware you can sign your posts by typing four tildes ~~~~

If you see here: Talk:Canadian_federal_election,_2011#Rapidly_degenerating_into_trivia, you will understand my reasoning for reverting your addition.
