Cookie!
editHey I just wanted to make sure everything is cool with the Glitch City stuff. Anyways, thank you for posting on talk page, where we can reach a consensus on what to do with mentioning the glitches. Here you go:
Artichoker[talk] has given you a cookie! Cookies promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Spread the WikiLove by giving someone else a cookie, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Happy munching!
Spread the goodness of cookies by adding {{subst:Cookie}} to their talk page with a friendly message.
I believe you are being disruptive to the consensus process by canvassing, evidenced by your non-neutral mass-posting of this dispute on a number of editor's talk pages. This is frowned upon, and I suggest you stop and read up on WP:CANVAS. Thank you. Artichoker[talk] 20:28, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Echo that. I know you're acting in good faith, but this is against the rules on wikipedia. For what it's worth, though, I'll offer some help in the way of advice: my feeling is that glitches in general are non-notable. Lots of games have glitches where you might be able to walk through walls or get more powerups. This kind of information is probably game guide material, like tricks to play the game better. But glitch city is one key aspect of this game that is worthy of mention, because it's essentially an unintended hidden level. I'm not sure where it should be in the article, maybe in the "Legacy" section if there was one. But the other glitches don't really belong on wikipedia. Just my two cents. Thanks for the input, Randomran. I was unaware of the canvassing issue but will work within the guidelines. Regarding WP:NOTABILITY, you are making the common error of thinking this applies to all information in the article, when in fact it only applies to articles themselves. I quote:
"These notability guidelines only pertain to the encyclopedic suitability of topics for articles but do not directly limit the content of articles." MKULTRA333 (talk) 03:08, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- The glitches of the game are completely unrelated and will need separate notability. Artichoker[talk] 03:10, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
The glitches in Pokemon Red/Blue are completely unrelated to Pokemon Red/Blue? What total nonesense. They are a well known aspect of those games, not only that they are used to cheat in the game.MKULTRA333 (talk) 03:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Notable was probably the wrong word. I think they're trivial and aren't worthy of inclusion, although that's something that has to be determined by consensus. The actual content of the article should give due weight to important aspects, and undue weight can be a problem if you either offer too much information or give that information its own heading. But even if we disagree, I think this is too close to a violation of WP:GAMEGUIDE and WP:GAMECRUFT -- players don't need to know every single glitch in the game and how to activate them. Glitch city, to me, is the only one that is important to mention, because it has been covered in reliable secondary sources, and it has become an important part of the legacy of the game. Randomran (talk) 03:27, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- One of the biggest problem is that "glitch city" is really just a common type of glitch and the same sort that causes MissingNO. anyway: the game tries to draw data from an invalid bank in its coding for one part of it and as a result the data causes a glitch. There's nothing citable in terms of a reliable or official source that calls it glitch city, there's no gain from it, and there's no lasting effects to the Pokemon gaming community on the whole: it's just a silly little bug that happens in many games from bad or overlooked programming glitches.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 04:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
If you are making comments about the inclusion or not of Glitch City, it is probably more useful to put it on the Pokemon Red and Blue talk page rather than here.
Randomran, you say "players don't need to know every single glitch in the game and how to activate them. Glitch city, to me, is the only one that is important to mention." I actually deleted a large amount of extra Glitch information from the Glitch section, and basically boiled it down to MissingNo and Glitch City. But now Glitch City isn't mentioned at all. I don't think the very small section on glitches was undue weight, given the size of the article and the notoriety of these bugs.
Kung Fu Man, while you might deem it no lasting effect on the "Pokemon gaming community on the whole," it is a well known topic in the Pokemon community and of great interest to a proportion significant enough to warrant a mention in the Pokemon Red Blue article.
Anyhow, it would be great if any future comments on the topic (as opposed to admin issues) were posted on the topics Talk Page rather than here. Best Regards, MKULTRA333 (talk) 05:02, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
