Hi. Saw that you uploaded this image, without specifying the source for where it was found. As the source is needed to determine the correct license, the image is now tagged as no-source, which means that it will be deleted in about a week unless the source is specified. Bjelleklang - talk 23:45, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- The same also applies to Image:Af 01s.jpg
It's better not to get personal. I wasn't the one who nominated the article in the first place, and I was one of two who voted for deletion up to now. The AfD page is the correct place to state your reasons.
Indeed, as you said, "Wikipedia is not a hall of fame", but the notability criteria doesn't say that. See WP:N, WP:BIO and WP:MUSIC among others. In particular, the first one of those states: while all articles on "famous" and "important" subjects are notable, not all notable articles are famous or important. Notability is measured by other standards. I don't agree with some of them, but they reflect the current consensus. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 18:27, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again. You "got personal" just by going to my talk page instead of presenting your view at AfD, but also when you said that my vote was "utter nonsense". That's really not how you earn support. By not going personal, I also meant not challenging my vote but instead trying to show my facts wrong.
- My point of view regarding notability, with which you disagree, is not policy. I'm trying to follow policy, which is at WP:MUSIC in this case. In my personal opinion, an encyclopedia should not have entries about musicians who have had "one charted hit in one medium to large country". It should also not have articles on non-remarkable high schools or train stops. I'm a deletionist. When an article seems not worthy to me and policy is on my side, I vote delete. Other people, which you'll see around often in AfD, are inclusionists. When an article seems worthy to them and policy is on their side, they will vote keep.
- CastAStone has said the important thing above. You can make your case in the AfD page and you can also edit the article to reflect the importance and notability of this person (checking his website trying to establish it is not my obligation). What you cannot do is change policy by yourself, or force others to contradict policy, or call other people's opinions "nonsense" because they don't respond to your expectations. Peace. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 21:22, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
If you can prove he meets the standards set forth in WP:MUSIC, I will be happy to change my vote. My job here is to monitor the encyclopedia --CastAStone 19:16, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- alright buddy, I changed my vote, because you followed procedure and made a case in the AfD for notability per the requirements in WP:MUSIC. I think you should note in the article that both of his albums were released on Universal to further establish notability. I nominated the article for deletion instead of tagging it with a {{db-bio}}, which would have skipped process and deleted it immediately per WP:CSD, but many editors will just use the {{db-bio}} if you create a new article without establishing notability on the first edit. FYI. Especially if you are a redlinked user, which you were when I first nominated this (meaning no user page). anyhoo, with me withdrawing the nom, it will almost certainly survive the AfD, so happy editing. --CastAStone 19:46, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Notability
editAs I said, it's my understanding that looking for proof of notability is not an obligation of a person who nominates an article for deletion, or that votes "delete". In fact, WP:CSD says an article can be deleted directly, without AfD voting, if an article appears to be about a non-remarkable person or group and doesn't assert their importance or significance. That is, if you write an article about someone, it is you who is responsible for showing that this person is notable, according to the policies and guidelines already laid out.
As I see it, voting an AfD requires that you read the article, and if appropriate, its references. If in doubt, you can also check Google or go to your local library or whatever, but this is not required; if a subject is notable enough, it should be obvious from the article. If not, then it must be badly written. That's why pages can be edited while on AfD; the author, and others who may want to keep the article, can expand the article and correct its failures.
What I won't do is nominate anything for deletion when notability can be easily verified. AfD nominators should try to show that the article is not worthy of a place in Wikipedia. Check other AfDs and you'll find, here and there, badly researched nominations with complaints towards the nominator. I sincerely believe that really good articles are very rarely deleted, because responsible voters will go beyond their obligation if they feel they should. --Pablo D. Fair use rationale for Image:Admiralfreebee cover songs.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Admiralfreebee cover songs.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 15:43, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Maarten1980. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Maarten1980~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
