Hi Mabuska,

Thanks very much for the barnstar message. I'm glad to have done the Irish VCs - the prospect of the Scottish, Welsh and English VCs is now rather daunting! It's also a great education, of course. I never knew the first VC recipient was Irish - Luke O'Connor. And it's also striking that, as in O'Connor's case, so many recipients may have come from small towns and villages, but were often, as in O'Connor's case, one of two or more recipients from the same tiny place.

Just to run it by you - I have added Belfast's Bryan Budd (1977-2006) to the list of Irish Victoria Cross recipients, since the page seems to refer to geographical, and not political, Ireland. I will try and find any other post-1922 Ulstermen who were similarly omitted, and will then work on reducing the size of the list of Victoria Cross recipients of uncertain nationality. James Kenny, for instance, seems as straightforward an Irishman as you could hope to find, and I will transfer him from "uncertain" to Irish in due course. No problems! That page does indeed largely seem to be about the geographical Ireland not geopolitical Ireland, so I amended the lede to give a bit more information and add in the fact that anyone from the Republic who enlists in the British Army is eligible for a VC.

There is no list of Northern Ireland VC recipients and I don't think we would exactly need one if this article remains committed to the island as a whole, so by all means add any other Ulstermen you find to the list.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that Ireland won so many VCs. I came across this nice factoid, part of which I may attempt to work into the Irish VCs page at some point: "The first VC ever won was for Mate Lucas from Armagh. He won it at the Baltic in the Crimea war. The first soldier to win the VC was Sgt Luke O’Connor from Elton in Roscommon. He won his at the Crimea war. Now they were the very first people to win the VC. The first VC of the First World War was won by an Irishman. The first VC of the Second World War was won by an Irishman. Word of note

One of the IPs on the British Isles tp is of selective reading, but in my opinion is on here longer than his contrib log shows. He seems to refer to things that have not been on the article in a while, even his first edit. I crossed cursors with him on Gaisce, which is why I know he has selective reading. Good luck. Irish parliament is WP:MALPLACED

Please note that the issue here is WP:MALPLACED; a "Foo" title may not ever redirect to a "Foo (disambiguation)" title, because the existence of any content at a "Foo (disambiguation)" title requires the existence of a primary topic occupying the space. The title should therefore redirect to a non-disambiguation article, unless there is a discussion-based consensus to move the disambiguation page to the undisambiguated title. bd2412 T 22:49, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Was in the process of leaving a message in your talk page. Just to point out that if you are going to state: "Per WP:BRD, reverting undiscussed change to longstanding redirect, which created a duplicate disambiguation page Irish parliament (disambiguation) already exists" - then revert to the actual longstanding redirect. You reverted to an undiscussed IP edit from September 2013. Irish Parliament (capital P) still links to the original.

Personally I feel that Irish Parliament should be the primary location for the disambiguation page so I will raise it at WP:IMOS as the term refers to more than just the Parliament of Ireland or the Oireachtas. Mabuska ^(talk) 22:53, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
