Calthorpe clinic
editSince you found refs on Lexis, why not just add them to the article? or at last list them in the AfD? DGG 01:21, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
I don't know what to tell you. I'm not sure my argument needs to be any stronger than it is, given the circumstances. There are three votes, and two are for retention of the article (and the nominator has no opinion). The nom itself boils down essentially to "subject is not notable", and I don't see how that's any more thorough an argument than my rebuttal of "yes it is". I get that the deletion debates aren't about vote-counting, but by my reckoning, the "keep" votes still hold a slight but definite advantage here. In a fiercely contested debate, the quality of arguments might be swaying, but this seems too minor and uncontested to worry about.
Where's your vote? Ford MF 06:06, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

editI saw your notes on Qxz's talk page. He seems to have retired, and you probably won't get a reply to your requests. Just thought you would want to know. -- Pastordavid 09:43, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- I am not sure exactly what you are looking for -- but it probably doesn't matter. My guess is that what you would want was transcluded to the the talk page from material on the subpage User talk:Qxz/header, which was deleted per his request when he left. Perhaps another user would have something similar you could copy? -- Pastordavid 09:59, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Glad I could help (although it appears that you got your reply below). If you find someone willing to create new banner ads, let me know -- I'm not sure, judging from his talk page, if that is something that Azatoth is currently working on -- I could use some for some WikiProjects I work with. Have a great day. -- Pastordavid 10:16, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Help!, New banner?
editI see you just moved the banner style ads to template namespace, but before you did that, the page also included links to speedy deletion logs and the like. Your regular userspace redirects to your talk page. Where can I find those logs? I find them quite useful. (Please answer on my talk page) - Mgm|(talk) 08:31, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- I had those pages deleted; they have little use now. The deletion log itself is at Special:Log/delete.
To encourage fact checking I would like to see a banner to promote Wikipedia:WikiProject Fact and Reference Check, but my art skills are pretty much non-existent. I see you created at least some of the banners yourself. Would you like to help me out with this one? - Mgm|(talk) 09:35, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately not. I left some time ago, and am only editing to respond to the steady stream of questions still being left on my talk page. Go find AzaToth and ask him to do it – Qxz 10:08, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Clearly nobody else is going to do it, so
I've noticed that you've mentioned my category watchlist script on this page. What changes would it need to make it useful for the task you're suggesting? (It has to be kept simple when combined with the watchlist to reduce server load, but it could do something more complex if it were only run every now and then.) --ais523 16:23, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is that the Category:Articles lacking sources subcats are far too big for the script to process in an efficient manner (my script works by requesting a dump of the category addition dates from the database and then finding the newest). User scripts also aren't suited for continuous operation (like you suggest). It isn't all bad, though; this seems like a reasonable bot request. The trick would be to scan the category that identifies the article to a WikiProject and then check each article there for {{unref}}, etc.. But my script isn't really appropriate for what you're suggesting, unfortunately (it's a pity; I think it's a problem that so many pages are unreferenced). By the way, the reason I noticed so quickly is because a) I've got {{cent}} watchlisted, and b) a script notifies me of any uses of my own username on a page. Sorry about that, and I hope some other method is found to do what you're trying to accomplish (as I said further up, a bot could manage it, or if and when category intersection is implemented it could manage it too). --ais523 17:57, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- The script I was referring to is User:ais523/highlightmyname.js (note that this breaks on some systems, and you have to use User:ais523/highlightmyname2.js instead), which causes any uses of your username on a page to have a red background (the first version also does edit boxes, whereas the second version doesn't). --ais523 13:49, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your email about 'Calthorpe Clinic' entry. Of course I will help. Could you explain what you mean by 'providing sources for the article'?
Game guide
editI'm afraid this may be moot now. However, it seems to be a reiteration of our "trivia cycle". Articles attract trivia sections. People object to those (because of WP:AVTRIV). Eventually they get split out to their own article. Then this article ends up on AFD (again, because of WP:AVTRIV). So the question boils down to whether an article about a video game should contain a list of levels (doubtful) and if so, whether this list should contain instructions for the levels (probably not). That's my opinion, at any rate. >Radiant< 15:15, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

My helpdesk question
editHi, just letting you know I replied to your response to my question at the help desk here. Any thought/comments/suggestions? Thanks- CattleGirl talk | sign! 10:52, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
(Sorry about the late reply, I haven't been online recently) The script applies to the first page of contributions on Special:Contributions for any user you view (but it's most useful on your own contributions, usually). The colouring can go wrong on later pages of contributions because you might have top edits on previous pages where the script can't detect them. Hope that helps! --ais523 10:53, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Ref in Knut (polar bear)
editSorry for not explaining clearly in the edit summary. The code {{reflist}} is more popularly used (I see it in almost FA articles). Also when the ref list of the article grows longer, the big font size coded by <reference/> will make the article look too long (I assume a lot of information about this cute bear will added hereafter) so I replaced the code. Cheers!(p/s:I'm happy to know a Dutch admin like you because I love the Netherlands so much) Apple••w••o••r••m•• 13:07, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, thanks for letting me know another code. But I'm too lazy to write a long one :). If divide the list into 2 columns, I think {{reflist|2}} is OK. But I don't know why it just appears 2 columns in Firefox. Maybe your suggestion will solve the problem. Apple••w••o••r••m•• 15:41, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Lars is Knut's baby-daddy
editI've read the ref in several news stories, but more recently I found it here in an interview where Lars is mentioned as a "breeding bear" at the zoo. I also found it at the German Vanity Fair website's biography on Knut, which is in German, of course, but I can make out "father" and "Lars" from "Sein Vater ist der 1974 im Münchner Zoo geborene Eisbär Lars." Hope that answers your question. María (habla conmigo) 12:57, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Michael obille (now Michael Obille)
editI know you didn't place the tag, but I wonder what made you inform this user about the tag rather than reverting it. That award that is mentioned in the article is in my opinion notable and should at the very least be discussed in AFD if someone believes it isn't. I don't think an A7 speedy was appropriate. I've therefore moved the article to it's correct title and removed the tags. - Mgm|(talk) 08:57, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- The award is notable, he never won it. We even have an article that lists winners...he isn't on it. That article was recreated numerous times and each time he made a bigger and more rediculous claim about himself. IrishGuy talk 16:44, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Re-booting Magic WikiProject
editFollowing various discussions and posts on the project talk page I've drafted a new version of the project page. In particular it seeks to clarify aspects of the structure of the project and guidelines regarding publication of magic methods. I'm asking you for your opinion because of your past involvement in the project. The draft is posted at Wikipedia:WikiProject Magic/draft magic project page. Despite linking off the project talk page and posting an announcement on the Community bulletin board there doesn't seem to have been any response yet. Any comments from you would be valued. Tabs on portlets
editI'm not sure where you got all that portlet code from, but it wasn't from fr:MediaWiki:Monobook.css. There is only one rule in that file that refers to ".portlet h5". I've copied it into my own monobook.css here. The "-moz-border-radius-topright" part puts the rounded corner, which I left commented out because you said you only wanted the tabs. Mike Dillon 14:47, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- There are a few CSS references and tutorials you might look at:
- http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/CSS_Reference (possibly Mozilla specific)
- http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_reference.asp (a little ad heavy)
- http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/Style (a little dated)
- If you need help with anything in particular, your best bet is probably to ask at WP:VPT, since WP:WPCSS is not really active.
- As for changing the text on your top tabs, that has to be done with JavaScript, not CSS. There is an example of changing "edit this page" to "edit" at Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts#Open requests. To change it for other links, you need to determine the HTML id of their containing element. For example, the link to "My talk" is contained in the "pt-mytalk" list item. If you need help with this, add a new request to the "Open requests" section of WP:US, since it is relatively active.Mike Dillon 16:04, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I've answered your request for a script; as it happens, renaming a tab is a one-liner. Does it do what you want? --ais523 16:35, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- The version I gave on WP:US works, but causes harmless errors sometimes. Here's an improved version, also showing how to expand it to multiple tabs at once:
addOnloadHook(function(){ if(document.getElementById('ca-edit')) document.getElementById('ca-edit').firstChild.innerHTML = 'edit'; if(document.getElementById('ca-history')) document.getElementById('ca-history').firstChild.innerHTML = 'hist'; // add more cases here });
- As for the actual names of the tabs, I haven't found a list anywhere, but you can find them out by viewing the source of a relevant page. Here's a list of some that I know:
- ca-nstab-main ('article')
- ca-nstab-user ('user page')
- ca-nstab-project ('project page')
- ca-talk
- ca-edit
- ca-addsection ('+')
- ca-history
- ca-protect
- ca-delete
- ca-move
- ca-watch
- ca-unwatch
- Hope that helps! --ais523 13:07, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- As for the script I made for TomasBat, the behaviour you've seen is deliberate; the 'random smiley award' is apparently supposed to be given out completely at random, and the possibility of sending it to vandals is discussed on its explanation page. The modification you suggest is perfectly possible, but then it wouldn't be a 'random' smiley; I'll make a different version that does that if you like. --ais523 11:09, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- The request was to randomize the person who the smiley was given to; it's always the same smiley that's given, the Random Smiley Award. I'm not entirely certain as to the merits of such an award myself, however. --ais523 11:21, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Indentation
editYour WP experience eclipses mine, but perhaps I can still reveal a nugget of useful information. I changed your indentation (now) on Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation pages aren't articles. In the middle of a numbered list, you had used ::::, which caused the numbering to restart at 1 afterward. I changed it to *#:, so it would be (from right to left) indented from a numbered list in a bullet point. Any indentation prefix can have a colon tacked on to indent "appropriately" for whatever the current indentation is. Cheers! -- JHunterJ 13:48, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Photographs of things that cannot legally be photographed.
editIn responce to the discussing at the help desk, [2] I was wondering as I saw a photo about JFK Airport (Terminal 4) which I know cannot legally be photographed. I know this as I was filming at the time on a trip to New York when an officier came and informed me the laws. The seaport was merely another example but I know, for example, in Sri Lanka it is illegal to photograph any of its harbours or seaports. Your edit to the {{unreferenced}} template
editWhile I can see why you introduced a reference to the other template for sections, I think it would be better if this information was displayed on the template page rather than on the template itself. A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin
editThanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.
I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we? Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Hello, you marked the page I created for the lyrics to my favorite Spanish carol "A la Nanita Nana" and said it was "blatant copyright infringement." I deeply resent this. This is a very old, traditional Spanish Christmas Carol. If you can put the lyrics to "Sleigh Ride" and "Silent Night" up there, why are you deleting the lyrics to a song that's really old? In any event, I certainly didn't mean to infringe anyone's copyright, and the tone of the entire delete conversation has left me quite upset.

Winter service vehicle
editThanks for commenting on Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Winter service vehicle. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that changing the size of images in the article is the best approach as users can set the image size themselves by Special:Preferences, and those on low resolution or large text sizes will find very little space for text between the images.
