1689 Dutch world map

edit

Hi Mgm, I was wondering if you could look at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/delist/Image:World Map 1689.JPG. I nominated this image for delisting because we have little information about it beyond its author and year created. However, I did find a source in Dutch that might give us some more information, which would be very useful regardless if picture's FP status is kept or not. Links and other info is on the delist nomination page. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 19:44, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gazzo Macee

edit

I am currently working on the article Gazzo Macee (right now it's here) and when typed it in at Google came up with this page. I was wondering where you found he was born in 1960, because I can't find that anywhere. If you could please respond on my talk page that would be much appreciated. Thanks! Hi MacGyverMagic, sorry for the really late delay to your question on my Meta talk page. I'm afraid I don't know why your account is turning up incorrect results, and indeed whether it's a problem confined to your account only. I know some very old accounts don't have the exact account creation date in the database, but the accounts that have those problems are really old, dating back to 2003 and earlier. I'm inclined not to really rely on the copy of the English Wikipedia database on the toolserver at the moment, since the data not only appears to be old, but also corrupted somewhat. We're getting a dedicated database toolserver for the English Wikipedia sometime this week or the next, so hopefully that will fix some problems... :-) Cheers, Tangotango (talk) 07:40, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Redirect of Michael Curtis-Parsons

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Michael Curtis-Parsons, by CultureDrone (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Michael Curtis-Parsons is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Michael Curtis-Parsons, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Michael Curtis-Parsons itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 08:20, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Mgm_Hoover_the_talking_seal.ogg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mgm_Hoover_the_talking_seal.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 14:33, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:May31-Jpkoester-cdvf.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:May31-Jpkoester-cdvf.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Adding me to the List of Magicians

edit

I was wondering what exactly do I need to do in order to get included in the List of Magicians. Just curious.

www.smoothini.com

I ask because I saw Owen Lean aka Road Mage on the list, and I have the same, if not better, qualifications.

And I know there is a HUGE debate about people including themselves, but .... well, like I said. I'm curious as to what I need to accomplish in life in order to be included.

Mark Hucko AfD, take 2

edit

Hello,

I nominated Mark Hucko for deletion again. Previous AfD was closed as "no consensus". In the meantime the sources for the article have not become any better and it is still unverifiable.

Your opinion will be appreciated at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mark Hucko (2nd nomination).

Thanks in advance. --Amir E. Aharoni 12:14, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your userpage

edit

Hey Mgm, I am here to admit to stealing your userpage design. Out of all the ones I have seen, yours struck me as being the closest to what I want. I've never done much with my userpage and have spent the last few days tinkering around with the code. I hope its ok that I took your look, but fear not, I'll changing it further in the near future. I gave you credit currently and I can revert back if you don't want me using your design. I noticed you on an entry on the History page there and as I'm neither an admin nor sufficiently Wikismart, I thought I'd approach you in the first instance. Hope that's ok. Anyway, I have no personal or other interest in this page but I notice two things there: One is that the main paragraph seems like a advertisement for a book. Second is the large number of red links which also seem to add to the vanity/advertisement feel of the page. Most of these contributions/changes seem to be made by someone(s) not registered/logged in. Most of my contributions have been either minor changes or to pages on subjects which I know about whereas this is just something I've objectively noticed. I don't know how to tag this - or what is the appropriate step - if any - that I should take re. editing it. Your advice/help/referral would be gratefully recieved. Thanks. Hello there! Re: this request from way back in the spring... I don't have page numbers either (though I can go get a copy of the Cyclopedia article if you still need it), but I checked a biographical index and got a few more citations. If you are looking for Paul Leland Kirk, 1902-1970, I got this listing of where biographies appear in reference works for him:

  • Biography Index. A cumulative index to biographical material in books and magazines. Volume 8: September, 1967-August, 1970. New York: H.W. Wilson Co., 1971. [BioIn 8]
  • Biography Index. A cumulative index to biographical material in books and magazines. Volume 11: September, 1976-August, 1979. New York: H.W. Wilson Co., 1980. [BioIn 11]
  • Cops, Crooks, and Criminologists. An international biographical dictionary of law enforcement. By Alan Axelrod and Charles Phillips. New York: Facts on File, 1996. [CopCroC]
  • The National Cyclopaedia of American Biography. Volume 56. New York: James T. White & Co., 1975. Use the Index to locate biographies. [NatCAB 56]
  • World of Forensic Science. Two volumes. Edited by K. Lee Lerner and Brenda Wilmoth Lerner. Detroit: Thomson Gale, 2006. [WorForSci]

this is from the "Biography and Genealogy Master Index. Farmington Hills, Mich.: Thomson Gale, 1980- 2007."

there's a couple other Paul L. Kirks as well, so let me know if that's not the same one. Hope this helps. -- phoebe/(talk) 01:01, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I was wondering if this request has been fulfilled, or do you still want me to look? I got the idea that Phoebe send you a copy? Key to the city 12:39, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok good news, I've found your request for Paul L. Kirk in the National Cyclopaedia of American Biography. But I'll need your e-mail address to send it to you in an attachement. You can send it to me with the wiki-e-mail system if you don't want to post your e-mail address on my talk page. Key to the city 09:02, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
