Hello, I saw your message on User:DIDouglass's talk page. I wanted to introduce myself and answer some of your questions. You can check my user page to see what I'm involved in, but I'm currently the Children's Museum of Indianapolis Wikipedian-in-Residence, assisting with the WikiProject Wikipedia Saves Public Art, and I have strong affiliations with Indiana Landmarks and the Morris-Butler House as a museum studies graduate student at IUPUI.

The project that has gotten the most attention is Wikipedia Saves Public Art, where we are attempting to improve the coverage of public artworks in Wikipedia. We believe this should include monuments and memorials as well. Historic houses, while not public art obviously, aren't too far off base. In fact, coverage of historic landmarks and architectural topics are far better represented in Wikipedia and you would likely have a strong WikiProject community that would help you. As long as whatever information you put on Wikipedia has reliable sources, a house could have its own article, or you could compile a list of houses for Madison, Indiana. If you do this in Wikipedia the information will get much more visibility than if you created your own Wiki. You can't beat googling a topic and it appearing at the top of the search. (Try Googling the relatively obscure artwork Mega-Gem and see what I mean). Let me know if you have any other questions. HstryQT (talk) 13:17, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your interest! I have information and plausible speculation about a historic black church that was turned into a garage and then finally torn down. The pastor was an important figure in the underground railroad. I am 75 years old and this information is in danger of being lost. I tried to submit it as a wikipedia article but it was rejected because of lack of citations to publications. The problem, of course, is that adequate publications do not exist. Here is my facebook album containing a painting of the church that I made for Black History Month, together with supporting materials. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1234989339926164&type=3 192.198.57.205 (talk) 22:51, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. My information sources are not published in an easily cited way, which seems to disqualify me from Wikipedia. The local historical society and the county courthouse have useful records that are not online. These include old maps and a list of black people in the town during civil war times. The local library has old newspaper photographs. Storing my research in a public Facebook album seems to be the best that I can do. Anybody would be welcome to reproduce this in a more permanent way. 2603:6011:D1F0:7930:D94F:87C3:BF73:A1E3 (talk) 23:43, 5 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
