My faith in administrators
Shall I do something about one or few of them? I don't seem to get along with them at all. And I still have trouble with their attitudes, especially one of them. --George Ho (talk) 17:53, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Mu ha ha. Send me to ANI or Arbcom or somewhere. See you there. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:14, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

- I couldn't stand The Rambling Man's condescending and uppity attitude, especially towards me. Also, he gave me scornful and more than meaner responses, especially whenever my proposals fail to achieve consensus. Also, he makes sarcasm that seems less than kind and nice. --George Ho (talk) 04:49, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

- Nobody gets special treatment. If one continually makes daft proposals or frequently wastes community time by creating solutions looking for problems, one should not be surprised that shorter and shorter shrift is given. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:39, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Magog the Ogre I have had an identical experience with The Rambling Man. Extremely rude. On his talk page, unprovoked, he called me "outrageously stupid, ill-thought out, dumfoundingly and astonishingly stupid" and he has also accused me of being a sock and acting on another editors behalf repeatedly, across multiple venues, with no evidence, despite my asking him to stop multiple times. SocialJusticeWarriors (talk) 13:12, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Most of your recent edit history consists of you attempting to provoke The Rambling Man. If you're so bothered by the outrageous admin, I suggest you stop poking him with a pointy stick. --Dweller (talk) 13:18, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- He is the one doing the provoking, following me from venue to venue making false accusations. What you see in my edit history, is me defending myself against his false accusations. SocialJusticeWarriors (talk) 13:23, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- And actually, what I said was "Still, best form of defence is outrageously stupid, ill-thought out, dumfoundingly and astonishingly stupid offence". If you wish to apply that to any one specific individual engaging in pointless chatter on my talk page (which arguably could apply to a few individuals) then that's not my problem. Meanwhile, you bring up an editor's autism as if it's something to joke about? Stay classy. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:21, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Nothing is ever your problem, in your eyes. You go around being a dick, personally attacking people and slinging repeated false accusations, and it's not your problem. Take some responsibility for your actions. SocialJusticeWarriors (talk) 13:25, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- I've got 99 Problems, but this "user" ain't one. Keep up the autism bashing, that's so niche. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:29, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

- @The Rambling Man: I'm not sure if you're aware, but what comes across as hard-headedness for George is often just genuine inability to understand. Don't get me wrong; part of the problem is that he can be hard-headed, but the other half is that people assume he understands something which he doesn't. If you have a lot of time, I suggest reading the unblock requests at Special:PermanentLink/467405093. You'll see a lot of people yelling at George that he's clueless until his talk page access was nearly revoked. Only when the issue was spelled out in a very specific way did George finally understand and move on.
- Given that you just mentioned autism in your post immediately above, would you be willing to spend a little more time helping us understand? I will do the best I can to help although I am not familiar with this subject matter. (fun read for extra credit: Wikipedia:High-functioning autism and Asperger's editors).
- @George Ho: First off, sorry if I sound rude in my post above. To the point, though: The Rambling Man brings up good points. Please remember not to take things personally, even if people say things personally. If you find someone getting this upset with you, ask one of your mentors why it's happening if you don't get it. - What question? "would you be willing to spend a little more time helping us understand?" No, I have no time for your or George's incompetence. I was shocked to the core when I realised how long he's been editing, that he continues to waste so much of the community's time and energy. It's wonderful that you wish to spend time trying to accommodate such a drain on our precious resources, but I will not tolerate such overt ignorance. I won't be continuing this discussion in this particular forum, I hope you can help George, I really do, it seems he could use it, but I literally have hundreds of things that are more pressing, one of which is to actively improve the content of Wikipedia. Happy new year. P.S. preferrably is preferably but that's your preference. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:56, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
- @George Ho: it seems TRM is unwilling to cooperate. I suggest you stay far away from him. If he harasses you, I suggest you ignore him. If he presses the issue, I suggest you tell him to go fuck himself. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 03:28, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
- And I suggest you perform the latter on yourself in your own time. What an unpleasant individual you are. Happy New Year! The Rambling Man (talk) 14:47, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

What about ANI and all that? George Ho (talk) 19:30, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, you can lodge an issue at ANI, that's commonplace for people who have contention with admins or other editors. As I said right at the top of the thread, if that's what you would like to do, then I'll see you there, although probably only for a few minutes. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:36, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
Question about the licensing of an image
Hello, I have a question about the license of an image. I want to upload an image of a university president, which I've gained permission to do, but the author sees this image being as a non-free. Is there a PD license tag that says that I've gained permission and that it can not be redistributed, etc., without asking them or a non-free image tag? The PD licenses I see are that the author gives a person permission to reuse, etc, which they don't want. I don't do much with these kind of images, so that is why I am really unsure. They will send the permission to the OTRS once we figure this out. Thanks! ❄ Corkythehornetfan ❄ 19:33, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Corkythehornetfan: to be on Wikipedia, the author must allow for free redistribution of the image; that's part of the free content model. OTRS will reject anything that doesn't allow that. Take a look at c:Commons:Email templates for a good model. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 03:05, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Re File:StMartinsSaints.png
Hi I was going through the delete discussion and I saw that the above file was deleted the same day it was posted. Why is that? Because the logo is copyrightable without a doubt? Is it this the one? http://www.scoutforceathlete.com/media/college/saint-martins-university55d5acafb1703.jpg Rybkovich (talk) 07:22, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Rybkovich: No. You can see from the deletion rationale that it's on Commons as File:Saint Martin's Saints.png. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 03:01, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
- Got it. Rybkovich (talk) 19:24, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
- User:Rybkovich, I saw the FFD listing and thought that it was so obvious that the file wasn't copyrightable, so I uploaded the file to Commons and tagged it as such, and then Magog deleted the local file, closing the FFD discussion. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:59, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Mentorship no longer necessary?
After three and a half years, I finally learn how to contribute well in Wikipedia. Nevertheless, I haven't gained much of trust from many administrators or long-time editors, especially those in ITN and soap opera fields. Aside from that, maybe the mentorship has reached its peak. I think I should stand well on my own and then face other challenges. Or maybe I don't have to keep an eye on Wikipedia a lot. Of course, I take my contributions very seriously because I want people to give me compliment or appreciation, not scorn as usual. I'm not thrilled about "notability" anymore because levels of it vary, depending on interests. But I can pick whatever I can pick for deletion due to lack of notability and proof of impact. Shall we end your and Dr. K's mentorships here? --George Ho (talk) 06:12, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
- @George Ho: you can do as you wish. Frankly, though, I worry about how headstrong you are and that you are failing to listen to anyone's advice. This may get you banned. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 00:30, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

- I guess that all of those football kit images are created from templates and that 90 % of the modifications are below the threshold of originality. The images could either have been created independently of each other or by making a small, invisible modification in an image editor. What should I do with respect to F8 tags when I come across those? --Stefan2 (talk) 22:21, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Stefan2: I feel like I've seen that a lot too. My guess is there is some program or other template they're using that they somehow manage to come up with images that differ only in ways imperceptible to the human eye. They may even be identical except for metadata. I'd say just use your better judgment. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 20:44, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Dear, Pleasure to mail you,I am trying to make wiki page but it got deleted.. Will you help me to make it. Regards Nilesh R Wadekar. Nileshrwadekar (talk) 19:37, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Nileshrwadekar: bluntly, you are misunderstanding the point of Wikipedia. If you're writing about yourself, you're doing it wrong. See WP:NOTSOCIALNETWORK. To quote from WP:1ST: Do not create: pages about yourself, your company, your band, or your friends; pages that advertise; personal essays; or other articles you would not find in an encyclopedia.

Question
Hello. Do you think this image is PD-textlogo, or is too original and copyrighted? Since I think it's a PD-textlogo (words and geometric shapes), I figured I'd ask someone who has more experience in this field before uploading it. Thanks, ❄ Corkythehornetfan ❄ 22:34, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Corkythehornetfan: I would lean toward textlogo, but it's questionable. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 04:08, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks! Any suggestions on what I should do? Should I ask someone else or just upload it and if someone has a problem we can discuss it there? ❄ Corkythehornetfan ❄ 04:22, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Non-Free Image moved to PD
Hello, it appears that you had moved [File:Emporia State Athletics logo.png] to the Wiki Media Commons this logo image while technically simple is trademarked to Emporia State University as per https://www.emporia.edu/marketing/styleguide/power-e-spirit-mark.html (note the tiny trademark symbol). Would it be possible to request that you revise the copyright attributes on this image per NFCC guidelines? Blanksamurai (talk) 19:35, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
There are a lot of files trademarked that are simply PD-text. ❄ Corkythehornetfan ❄ 21:01, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- I think you're confusing trademark and copyright. Trademarked images can and should be marked with {{trademarked}}. But they do not need any fair use rationale and are not governed by NFCC. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 01:36, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

About your answer
I did point him to the talk page of the article, but the user did not care. The IP, in question, is not genuinely trying to communicate with me. The only goal is trying to impose its own unreliable and unconsensual point of view. This same kind of disruptive behaviour is observed cross-wikis. --B.Lameira (talk) 20:07, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for blocking this persistent, apparently politically-motivated vandal. I'm curious, though: do you really think they're likely to start editing constructively (or at least to stop vandalizing) in just 24 hours? I speculate that most admins would have blocked indef. Am curious why you chose not to do so. Thanks. General Ization Talk 18:14, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
- @General Ization: the user committed only one act of vandalism after being warned. If the user cares enough to return after 24 hours, he probably would do it under another account anyway, and even if he wouldn't, the likelihood that he might pull his act together and contribute to the cause outweighs the possible harm done by an indef block (and likely having him edit under the other account). Description for a deleted image
Could you please tell me what license template was used on File:CH1.jpg? I'm checking to see if the person that uploaded the image used {{PD-self}} or if he used {{cc-by-sa-2.0-uk}} or perhaps {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}. If you reply please include a {{u}} pingback. Thank you. --Marc Kupper|talk 03:46, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Marc Kupper: the license on Commons is correct. GFDL-self-with-disclaimers and cc-by-sa-3.0-migrated-with-disclaimers. The "all rights reserved" text is contradictory, obviously. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 23:31, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you. It's not clear from your response if the original uploader of the deleted image used PD-self or one of the cc-by-sa templates. You were the deleting admin which is why I'd asked you to take a peek. The uploader used PD-self on the other two images that he uploaded leading me to think that he also used it on File:CH1.jpg and that the license was changed as part of migrating the image to Commons. Please see this thread on Commons if you are interested in the details. Unfortunately, the original uploader used an invalid combination of wording in the description vs. the license template he used in all three image uploads and it was not caught early on. --Marc Kupper|talk 00:41, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

- @Faruk720720: if you or anyone else heads over to Commons and requests unblock, it will be granted. Right now there is a lot of disruption coming from your IP range. Sorry. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 22:42, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
This is on Commons under the same name but the file has been overwritten on Commons. Can you fix this? --Stefan2 (talk) 22:08, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
York Centre
York Centre (provincial electoral district) was given the map for York West (provincial electoral district). Please fix. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 04:17, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- @EncyclopediaUpdaticus: what? Magog the Ogre (t • c) 04:33, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- It looks like you deleted File:York Centre, Toronto.png because File:York West, Toronto.png (as was requested) is available on commons. However they are two distinct provincial electoral districts. I've restored it, but it should be moved to commons. --kelapstick(bainuu) 04:45, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hm, it seems that there are two different maps in the history, which confused me when I added the "now commons" tag to the file. It seems that File:York West, Toronto.png also contained two different files in the history. It seems that one of the revisions should be deleted as F8 but that the other revision should stay. --Stefan2 (talk) 12:18, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- Stefan2, from what I saw the two districts were transposed when they were originally uploaded. That would have been the cause for confusion. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:30, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

You deleted this as F8, but the redirect File:Roach and Utley.png is still in use on Jerome Utley and Skel Roach. Was there some mistake? --Stefan2 (talk) 18:09, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Stefan2: yes it's easy to make mistakes. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 22:42, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
{{NowCommons|redirect}}
If someone adds {{NowCommons|redirect}}, where redirect
is a redirect on Commons, consider telling OgreBot to update the links to the current filename (or ask CommonsDelinker to do this). Example: File:WIKI CG 09.jpg was moved to File:Cypress Gardens shaped flora.jpg after it was uploaded to Commons. Since Wikipedia uses the redirect, the file usage only shows up in c:Special:GlobalUsage/WIKI CG 09.jpg but not in c:Special:GlobalUsage/Cypress Gardens shaped flora.jpg, which could confuse people. A few other 'WIKI CG' images were also moved on Commons and thus have the same problem. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:21, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- OK. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 05:18, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
