Lewisham

edit

Hi Mags Samba, Many thanks for your addition to the article about Lewisham. I was wondering if you have any sources that substantiate that Lillie Langtry lived in Wickham Way? The article does not seem to mention this. Also, the source for Loftus-Cheek is not really reliable - this looks like a fanzine with little or no editorial oversight. Do you have any reliable sources for his birth place? The mention of Catford in the article about George Solomos is entirely unsourced, so this may also need to be substantiated. Cheers, pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 15:09, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jake

Thanks for your message!

RE LILLIE LANGTRY I have two sources for Lillie Langtry in Lewisham - note that one (the PDF) is a Lewisham council document.

See the link on this page from Lewisham Council https://londonpostcodewalks.wordpress.com/tag/brockley/

Its on the Brockley WIkipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brockley

(but probably the same)

RE LOFTUS CHEECK Also what's Loftus Cheek? I didn't put that in - what's it referring to?

RE GEORGE SOLOMOS He was a personal friend of mine (although I did not upload or edit his wikipedia page). I was born in Lewisham and lived there most of my life and knew George whilst he was resident in Catford at his house in Blyth Vale between 1990 and 2010. I just checked the online electoral register and provide a screen grab of that (as I cannot see a way of sending you a JPEG of it).

Thanks!

Mags Samba

Hi there. Thanks for this. First of all apologies for including Ruben Loftus-Cheek. He was one below in the list of additions and I included him in error. I have fixed this separately. I think the PDF from Lewisham council is fine. I have added the reference. Thanks for pointing this out. The wordpress site would not have been sufficient on its own. I appreciate your connection with George Solomos, however the principle of Wikipedia is verifiability. I did not find reliable sources that indicate he lived (or died) in Catford. If there's a link to a reliable publication that states this, this would be good. In the meantime I have tagged the claims in both the Lewisham article and his personal article as requiring references. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 09:49, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jake Thanks for your response! re GEORGE SOLOMOS Do you not accept the Electoral Register as proof that someone was resident in the Borough of Lewisham? Without seraching for more sources at present, the closest proof that he lived in south-East London is from his Obiturary in the Guardian which states:

" When I tracked him down to south-east London in the late 1980s . . ." https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2010/dec/13/george-solomos-obituary and this "Hoetis still lives in south London" https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2010/oct/04/letter-pip-benveniste-obituary

I accept this does not specifically say Catford, or Lewisham, but thats where he was living. I will try and find a better source . . All the best Mags Samba

I don't know the electoral register data you found, so I cannot really comment on that specific source. I know there are all those websites that are not affiliated with the local councils or the British Library (the official keepers of the registers) that claim to have all sorts of data. I'm not sure how reliable they are. The key questions are: a) is this publicly available data, b) is the data presented without doubt relating to this specific person and c) is this previously published in this context? At the moment, the only publicly available reliable sources I can find indicate that he lived somewhere in London. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 16:41, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
