  Hello, I'm Ruby Murray. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Steve Comisar ‎ without thoroughly explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry: I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Dear Wikipedia Editor/Moderator: Comisar is a con man, American actor, author, and extortionist. The current first sentence only lists him as a con man and extortionist. This is misleading because it only lists the negative aspects of his notability. We should be fair, impartial, and balanced in the first sentence. The first sentence should read: (references noted)

Steven Robert Comisar (born December 30, 1961) is a convicted con man,[5] American actor,[3] author, [7] [8] [9] and extortionist.[1]

The references are noted above. This is a well balanced first sentence which lists all areas Comisar is notable for. Please change accordingly

Ruby Murray 30 Novemberr 2015 (UTC) Ruby Murray - about Steve Comisar

My Talk -- You did some work last year on the Steve Comisar article. Other editors discussed that in order to mention he is an *actor* in the header you needed reliably sourced references to support it. When I went to research "Steve Comisar" on Google News and Google Web there were quite a few *new* articles published over the past year (since your last edits) clearly verifying that he is an actor and "has appeared in numerous movies, TV shows, and commercials."

Accordingly, please use the links on Google News and Google Web as references and change the first sentence of the header to read: "...American actor, convicted con man, and extortionist." It is also noteworthy that Comisar's acting career is mentioned in every single Google article, but "con man" is mentioned only once, and "extortionist" is not mentioned at all. *Actor* must certainly be included in the header, in the info box, as well as in the "Acting career" section.

Please also add this new first sentence to the "Acting career" section: "Comisar has appeared as an actor in various movies, TV shows, and commercials." The same Google references can be used. Except for what I have covered, everything else in the article appears fair, and in accordance with your neutrality policy.

Please make these edits to the Comisar article because the recent reliably sourced Google News and Google Web references clearly support it. (Google: steve comisar + actor) I'm not an editor and have no idea how to do this myself. Kindly assist me.

--Message to Ruby-- Re: Steve Comisar article, I recommend that the last sentence of "Career in crime" section be edited as follows to include NEW reliably sourced info about the book:

The book is considered a "piece of fraud history" by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and is on display in their fraud museum.[10] *[12] -

                       ^
  • Add this new reference as [12]: (this new citation supports the proposed edit):

http://www.accountingtoday.com/gallery/acfe-fraud-museum-63177-1.html?...

Please edit this for me. The page isn't allowing me to make edits. Amit Mishra Maniamit (talk) 15:40, 4 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of America's Guide to Fraud Prevention

edit

The article America's Guide to Fraud Prevention has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable book lacking non-trivial references. Fails WP:NOTBOOK.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. reddogsix (talk) 18:38, 6 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

---Reply--- I feel that Comisar's book is notable enough for it's own short 2-sentence article. It's not extremely notable, but it is mentioned in all 11 of the reliable references. The first sentence, that the book was written by a notable con man, is completely supported by all 11 of the proposed reliable references. The second sentence, that the book is considered a "piece of fraud history" by a notable fraud prevention organization, is also fully supported in 2 of the 11 proposed reliable references. There are far less notable books with their own articles on Wikipedia. The book is notable enough for an independent, short 2-sentence article. Thank you. Calling all Wiki editors

edit

I need help with the Steve Comisar article. The page is not allowing me to make edits. I am also a novice and don't know how to do it myself. REDIRECT: Please set-up a redirect for Comisar's book, "America's Guide to Fraud Prevention" and his pseudonym "Brett Champion" to the Comisar article, to make finding information on these subjects easier for Wikipedia site users. CAREER IN CRIME: Ruby Murray was kind enough to add the accountingtoday.com reference [10] to the Comisar article. The last sentence in "Career in crime" should now say: "The book is considered a "piece of fraud history" by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and is on display in their museum. [10] [11]." The new reference fully supports this addendum. Can someone please edit this? Kindest regards, Amit Mishra Maniamit (talk) 15:43, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Maniamit. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:16, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

@ Tokyogirl79 Thank you for replying to me. I will never again attempt to edit Comisar. I do, however, respectfully request that as someone who obviously cares about the Wikipedia encyclopedia, you please take a look at the November 22, and the January 16 versions of the article. If you feel that either of these 2 versions represent a more complete biographical picture of Comisar, please revert or edit as you feel appropriate. His acting career, while not notable in itself, should not be hidden from the public. He is the only famous con man who is also an actor. That's something the public should know. As is, the aticle is biased, one-sided, and non-neutral. Thank you, Amit Mishra, India.

  • I do have a question: your user page has content about you being a SEM analyst. Were you hired to improve Comisar's image on the Internet and specifically, to edit Wikipedia? If you have been, you MUST disclose this. I'll be very honest: Comisar has a very poor reputation on Wikipedia because of his own actions, the least of which was off-line harassment. He behaved so poorly that at one point he actually had his Internet privileges taken away from him in jail. I'm stressing this for three reasons:
  1. If you were hired to represent him and improve his image, you're going to be fighting an uphill battle. You're going to need some extremely strong sourcing to justify having a mention of his acting career on Wikipedia, especially as there's no actual RS out there to verify that he performed in these roles. Is it likely he had these bit roles? Yes, but there has been so much abuse on the article that nothing short of an article in a RS (Twitch Film, The Hollywood Reporter, New York Times, etc) that goes into depth about his acting career will be enough to verify this career and show that it's worth mentioning. If you were hired to represent him, getting the coverage for these roles in places other than Wikipedia is what you need to focus on first.
  2. If you weren't hired to represent him or were asked to come and edit the article, you need to be careful. As stressed above, Comisar has a history of abusing Wikipedia to suit his own purposes. I'll be very honest: even if you say that you aren't affiliated with him, people will be unlikely to believe you since your edits have only centered around Comisar. I've seen people blocked because they were suspected of hiding a conflict of interest. This leads into point number three.
  3. You need to tell us about your conflict of interest when you are asked. If you do not answer clearly, we have to assume that there is a conflict of interest and that you're deliberately trying to hide it. You can edit with a conflict of interest, although direct edits are extremely discouraged, but you must be transparent about everything. If someone asks you (and I'm asking you right now) about how you're related to Comisar, you need to answer clearly.
So there's the issue and I'll be blunt:
What is your relation to Comisar? I find it difficult to believe that you are a random, unrelated person who happened to have an interest in Comisar, especially given your job. How did you discover the page? Were you asked to come to Wikipedia by Comisar, a friend/family member of Comisar, or by someone who represents him in some aspect? You must answer this.
I don't mean this to sound harsh, just that I need to impress upon you that the page is the way it is right now for a reason, which is that Comisar (and people affiliated with him) abused editing privileges and also harassed other editors, both off and on line.
