Welcome!

Hello, MaoJin/Archive1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Hello?

Maoririder, is this you? What happened to the Jingofetts (talk · contribs) account? If this is you, please indicate so here, and I'll see what I can do. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:45, 13 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

    • Unblock request granted: Thanks for your understanding, Maoririder. You were never blocked, but the IP address (169.244.143.115) was blocked for excessive vandalism (you don't edit without logging in, do you?). Hall Monitor blocked the IP as an open proxy, which means that it's a network IP address that anyone from around the world can log on to. Wikipedia policy states that open proxies should be blocked indefinitely. However, it was my impression that that IP address was simply a shared computer, so I unblocked and reblocked for a week while I ask Hall Monitor about this. I hope you understand.

Anyways, Maoririder, I don't mind you creating and using new accounts (as long as you don't use them to manipulate other people or processes), but you really have to tell us when you switch user names. I was unaware that you were editing from this account until someone informed me; how are we supposed to help you unless we know where you are at? The next time you use another username, please edit my talk page and give me a heads-up that you've started using another user name. Otherwise, we will all be disappointed in you - if you don't let us know that you're at another username, we can't help you. And that's what we're here for - to help you. The moral of the story? Let me know when you switch usernames. Also, please answer the question: have you read Wikipedia:Your first article yet? All I want is a simple yes or no. You may respond below. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 21:56, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

      • Cello the IP Number should not be blocked due to open proxy? I think anyone who is not a vandal in which i'am not should be able to edit wikipedia. MaoJin as in me not Maoririder anymore Cello Mao is gone history due to lost passwords... Mao was a stepping stone for my user accounts... Jingofetts is gone also now I attempt to use the MaoJin account to hopefully get unblocked around January 21 or so... Please don't screw me over like you have so many other times along with Lucky... Lucky I hope comes back to find out I'am still hopefully around to work on Wiki Articles... till then MaoJin p.s. i might lose MaoJin due to Mao in the name... bad memories...
        • I'm not out to "screw [you] over", Maoririder. We're all here to help you. The reason why the IP is still blocked is because Hall Monitor has not logged on in a few days and has thus not responded to my query concerning whether it is an open proxy or not, which I don't think it is. (I reduced the block length from infinite to one week, pending his response.) If you want to create a new account, that's fine, but please tell me when you switch usernames and tell me what your new account is. Otherwise, how are we to help you? I promise I'll try and resolve this IP blocking issue as soon as possible. Again, we're all here to help you. Thanks for your understanding, and also please indicate (yes or no, that's all I need) whether you've read Wikipedia:Your first article. Thanks. Flcelloguy (A note?) 15:03, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
          • I hope Lucky comes back soon and with Hall Moniter when will he unblock me if he does... I will personally let him know how i feel about the ip open proxy block since wikipedia got rid of ip users editing due to kennedy article vandals???

Have you read Your first article ?

edit
  • I see you're back to editing. Are you editing from another location now? Anyways, I must ask you and plead with you to answer ESkog's and my request that you indicate whether you've read Wikipedia:Your first article. All you have to do is say yes or no below this. I've asked this multiple times, and you've ignored all of them. A "yes" or "no" - that's all I need. I've been extremely patient with you, but if you decide to ignore this request, you may have to start facing the consequences of your actions (and I'd rather not have to go to that point). So, please answer the question: have you read Wikipedia:Your first article? Yes or no is all I need. I cannot emphasize any more clearer than that - you must respond to that immediately. Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 17:56, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

The {{disputed}} tag on Arthur

edit

This is roughly the tenth time I've had to remove a disputed tag from the article which you placed there. I have tried to explain a number of times why this is not an appropriate use of the tag, but you continue to contribute with over 50% of your edits being simply adding one or more templates to pages where they are usually not useful. To refresh your memory: the disputed tag should ONLY be used if there is a conflict between editors. It is not for when you can't remember some minute detail (alto vs. bari sax, for example). If you aren't sure of a detail, either look it up or don't include it.

I would again advise that you restrict your editing to actually editing articles instead of spamming them with tags. Also, you still have not indicated that you have read and understand Wikipedia:Your first article, which it is very important that you read according to your request for arbitration a while back. Other accounts?

edit

Maoririder, the IP block should be up in a few hours. :-) Anyways, can you confirm whether any of the following accounts are you: TexasLonghorns2006 (talk · contribs), LEAVEMETHEHELLALONEDAVID (talk · contribs), and/or FragileFrigateBird (talk · contribs)? Can you also tell me if you've been using any other accounts at all? As I've said before, I don't mind you using other accounts, but you have to tell me or let someone else know that you've started using another account. I cannot emphasize this strongly enough - if you keep on switching usernames without letting us know, how will we be able to help you? So, to press the point very bluntly: please let us know when you use another user name, otherwise we may be forced to take other actions. Please, make this easy on yourself and easy on us: just let me know everytime you use another account. You may reply to this message beneath it. Thanks! ASAP CELLO WHERE YA GO!

  • Maoririder, no one here hates you. You sometimes have to be patient - other people will help edit the pages you create, but it isn't going to happen overnight, and putting more tags on the articles doesn't help. Also, I can't speak for Cello, but I would prefer that you keep editing as MaoJin instead of jumping around. We really do want to help you and it's hard to do that if we can't even find you. (ESkog)(Talk) 18:05, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • As ESkog said, no one here hates you. We're here to help you; we're all volunteers here dedicating our time and energy so that you can improve. I would greatly prefer that you stick with one account, but I don't mind if you don't, provided that you let us know which account you switch to. I think I've reiterated that point above in big and bold letters; if you do switch usernames, please let us know. Also, I'm going to ask you again: have you read Wikipedia:Your first article? All I need is a yes or no below this message. Make it easy on yourself and just reply. Yes or no, that's it. That's all I need. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:53, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

April you will block me whatever.

the VFD/AFD tag

edit

Do not add this to your own articles. The purpose of Articles for Deletion is to nominate pages that you want to have deleted. Since you created the pages, I don't think you want them gone, right? Also, there is a process to go through to list a page on AFD, and just tagging the articles is not enough. (ESkog)(Talk) 18:10, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

By the way, if you do create an article by mistake and want it to be deleted, the tag to use is
{{db|REASON}}
db is "delete because", followed by a reason, such as {{db|Article created in error, author requesting deletion}}. This puts the article on the list of candidates for speedy deletion which don't need to go through the full "articles for deletion" process. Articles genuinely created by mistake and which are not edited by anyone else can be deleted immediately. I'm not suggesting that you do this as a matter of course though — you really need to consider before creating an article and not make a habit of creating extremely short articles then deciding afterwards that you didn't really mean to. Hi, Maoririder.  :)

edit

I'm doing OK. Real good, in fact. I got a promotion and a raise at work! Less hours, more fun, better position, more money. Loving it!

I'm also trying to limit my time fighting vandals. Just the other day, I added two pretty good-sized articles: Dave Hull and Shields Date Gardens. I thought of you as I was writing the Shields article since I know how much you like writing about things of interest in Portland. I don't know if you like dates or not, but 95% of this country's date crop is grown right here in my back yard. I love date shakes, but I haven't had one since I cut about 99% of my previous sugar intake from my diet. - Lucky 6.9 03:30, 22 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Glad to be back. I think I'm doing some pretty good stuff here as of late. Much more fun to write articles than to delete nonsense. - Lucky 6.9 17:02, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, Maoririder! I see that you have become interested in welcoming new users, which is a great way to contribute here. Short summary of things you need to do

edit

Here are a few things in short form from the above comments:

  • You absolutely need to read Wikipedia:Your first article, and let Cello know when you have read it
  • You should not be putting several templates (reqimage, expand, attention, cleanup) in single articles. One at a time, and explain why you are adding them.
  • It is great that you are welcoming users - be sure to sign your posts with ~~~~ every time.
  • Do not ever nominate your own creation for VfD or AfD. It doesn't really make sense.

I hope this helps - the above comments might be a bit overwhelming. (ESkog)(Talk) 16:46, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • As for "bashing you in the head", I would "bash in the head" (if that's how you wish to describe making public yet another instance of an article consisting of complete gibberish followed in the same edit by a tag asking for it to be deleted by afd) anyone who repeatedly, despite multiple attempts from a large number of people, carries on with what seems bizarre, disruptive and time-consuming behaviour. You have been asked politely to stop producing gibberish, pointless articles which are not expandable in any way ("The sea of shark is a sea. It is a place. Sharks are around this area."' — what is this supposed to mean, and what is the article for? How is any editor supposed to expand this into anything approaching coherence, let alone into an encyclopædic article?). You have been asked politely to stop adding {{afd}}/{{vfd}} tags to your own articles; the reason for this has been explained . An alternative has been presented for articles genuinely created in error… Yet you carry on doing it. Your only rationale for your behaviour appears to be "I was bored". Fine. Start your own wiki (free software is widely available for this) and mess about with that if your're bored. Or take a walk. Watch TV. Stare at a wall, Eat an apple. But please stop relieving your boredom in a way which requires other people to clean up after you. Tonywalton  | Talk 22:21, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bubba Cola

Ah, so Bubba Cola is a cola, eh?  :) You're off to a good start, but this is still a bit lean. Let's see what we can add to this with a quick Google search. - Lucky 6.9 17:27, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

yes thank you lucky and if you don't mind {{unblock}} ing me? i got framed again by using this ip number as hall moniter blocked me till april something??? just checking with you and hope it works out. google.com hopefully comes up with bubba cola iam not lying. MAO

I know you aren't lying. Good old Google verified the existence of the stuff (I've never heard of it out here) and you've never lied before. Besides, if you were still blocked, you wouldn't have been able to create the article in the first place.  :) You're also getting better at expanding your entries. You added more than just "Bubba Cola is a cola." You added the store that sells it and the city in which it's based. The store is "Save-A-Lot," by the way. "Save A Lot" came up as a red link. Heck, when a joke religion adopts the stuff as its sacred drink, it can't be all bad! - Lucky 6.9 17:41, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again lucky i'am glad you decided to give bubba cola a chance i know your busy and iam on a macintosh computer really slow connection and typing so please to bear with me anything to get hall moniter or flcello to {{unblock}} me? Ip 169 something? thanks again Mao! WHEW!

Don't worry about the IP. You're a registered user and the IP block wasn't placed on you. On the "Sam's Choice" article: It would have been better to check the edit history first since there was a good article there that had been redirected for God knows why. Sam's Choice is the Wal-Mart store brand; they put it on more than just soft drinks. - Lucky 6.9 17:45, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't have a way of looking at your watchlist. Is there something you'd like me to keep an eye on? Let me know on my talk page since I'm signing off for now. Later! - Lucky 6.9 17:59, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm back for a moment.  :) Good question regarding the "USA" usage. Since we're playing to a worldwide audience, I generally add it as a courtesy. No need to wikify "USA," but a wiki to the town in question is helpful. - Lucky 6.9 01:43, 31 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lists

edit

Howdy, I noticed you have been recently creating a lot of lists. There is no need to include a list of something if that material is already on Wikipedia. It may be worth searching a bit rather than creating an article right away. If you're not sure if the information is already in Wikipedia, you may want to put in a request, see Wikipedia:Requested articles for how to do it. Many of the articles you create will otherwise probably be deleted or redirected. A bit of searching before hand can save you and other editors a lot of time. Mao MaoJin 22:25, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reading it! Don't worry, no one wants you gone; they're all dedicated volunteers here to help Wikipedia, just like you are. If you want to improve and don't want to draw attention to yourself, may I suggest something for you? How about, instead of creating new articles, placing them in a user subpage first; that way, I can help you by taking a look at them, telling you what I think, and if I think it's appropriate, move it to the article namespace? In other words, using the article Howcheng cited, you would create an article at User:MaoJin/Brown People, and that way I would be able to help you before it is moved into the article namespace. How's this sound? Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:29, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Great! I'm glad to see that you're willing to improve. I only used the article I cited above as an example; would you be willing to do this for all new articles you are thinking of creating? All you need to do is to go to the search bar, type in "User:MaoJin/ARTICLE NAME" and write it, and then I will provide feedback and move it to the proper location if necessary. Please do that for all new pages you are thinking of creating.
Regarding "Brown People", I don't think that that's appropriate for an article. "Brown" people simply isn't encyclopedic - the information needs to be verifiable and to some degree notable. For example, African American (the politically correct term for people of colored race) is both an encyclopedic topic (few people, on the other hand, use the term "brown people") and is verifiable. Thus, I don't think that brown people should be included.
Finally, if you wish to nominate a stub-template (like {{Oregon-stub}}) for deletion, it should go to Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. However, I notice that you created it yourself minutes earlier. If you think that your own contributions should be deleted, then don't create them. Again, if you place everything you want to create in your user namespace first, I'll help you out. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:42, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
For the record, I don't "want you gone", and have never advocated this. I want you to stop producing nonsense. Tonywalton  | Talk 14:41, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

User is blocked From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search

Your user name or IP address has been blocked from editing

You were blocked by Hall Monitor Reason given: returning vandal, long term vandalism, warned repeatedly, *26th unique block*; have your system administrator contact me (see our blocking policy)

You are not blocked from reading pages, only from editing them. If you were only intending to read a page and are seeing this message, you probably followed a red link. These are links to pages that do not exist, so they take users to an editing screen. You should have no problem if you follow only blue links.

If you would like to know when the block will expire, please see the block list.

Innocent? Sometimes IP ranges or shared proxies are blocked from editing Wikipedia. This means that innocent people sometimes can't edit. If this is the case, it should be explained in the reason given above.

Also, some individual dynamic IP addresses may be blocked, usually for a 24 hour period. Occasionally, users with dynamic IPs will be blocked accidentally, due to that fact that their present IP was previously used by a blocked user.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. If this problem affects you repeatedly, and you would like to help us resolve this issue, you will need to contact a Wikipedia administrator and your internet service provider (ISP). The administrator should be able to obtain the time, date, and IP address used for the inappropriate behaviour in question, and describe what the problem was. You can then pass this information on to your ISP, explaining that you are unable to edit Wikipedia due to the inappropriate actions of another person using this ISP, and ask them to remedy the problem.

Your block

edit

I ask you to sit out the duration of your block and comeback when it is over. I removed the unblock tag because you were rightfully blocked for vandalism. SWD316 talk to me 02:24, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I did not vandalise anything? I'am a user that has been picked on before. When does the block go bye-bye? --MaoJin 15:51, 13 February 2006 (UTC) {{unblock}}Reply

You're not blocked; only the Maine public schools/libraries IP is. You seem to be able to edit from another location; why don't you do that? Because of the level of vandalism from the Maine IP, it would be preferable if you edited from another computer. Would that be possible? Thanks! Cello when will the maine ip block expire? MaoJin 16:37, 22 February 2006 (UTC) i have to use that one it's the one i use most of the time. I can only do so much my time is limited I wish you could understand...Reply
