Image copyright problem with File:ArgosyAug1960.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:ArgosyAug1960.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 02:11, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey Marc. I added a non-free use rationale to the image, but I need you to add the purpose for the image... i.e. why is it in the article? What does it give to the reader? Stuff like that. Cheers, —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 23:04, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- One more thing. I think that {{Non-free fair use in}} might be a better template to use; reading closer, I think that the historic image tag is for iconic images that have articles about them...like File:WW2 Iwo Jima flag raising.jpg. —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 23:15, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:ArgosyAug1960.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:ArgosyAug1960.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 15:44, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
File:'Around the World Submerged by Edward L Beach.jpg listed for deletion
editAn image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:'Around the World Submerged by Edward L Beach.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 17:30, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Related to this, I've removed the image from the article after you restored it. The image clearly violates WP:NFCC #1 and #8. Also see examples 4, 5, 7 and 8 of Wikipedia:NFC#Images_2. Please do not reinstate the image. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 17:50, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm afraid that the use of the book cover is ok for fair use only if it is used in an article about the book. Wikipedia:NFC#Images is pretty clear... Sorry dude, —Ed (Talk • Contribs) 21:39, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
DYK
editWhen nominating articles for Did you know, please use the template (there are instructions at T:TDYK#Sample DYK suggestion strings and also in the documentation for Template:NewDYKnomination) rather than just copy-and-pasting an older nomination. This copy-and-paste nomination you did caused formatting problems for the nomination below it. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 17:59, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Whoa, just stop now for a moment. The nom is already posted and there's no need to change it now; I was just giving you a message for future notice. In your latest edits there you must have been editing an old version of the page, because you removed massive portions of the page; I am now in the process of undoing your edits and cleaning things up. Please refrain from editing that page for a moment. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 19:04, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, I have fixed it. Feel free to edit the page (in fact, I left you a message there), but do not re-post your nomination. Next time you nominate something for DYK please use the template, but for this one please just leave it the way it is. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 19:14, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Articles for deletion nomination of Around the World Submerged

Replaceable fair use Image:Ronely3.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Ronely3.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 01:20, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey Marc, I took a look and I don't think that meets the Non-free use guideline. For one, it can't be used in the article about Ely as he is still living—a free use picture could be obtained. In Tarzan, it's a little more shaky, but I think it still doesn't pass; there isn't anything truly unique about the photo, it's just a face. Perhaps you could find a more representative non-free photo that covers most/all of the cast in their respective roles? I think that would pass. —Ed (Talk • Contribs) 16:59, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ed, could you provide a link about free use pictures, so I know what to look for? Thanks!Marcd30319 (talk) 21:50, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

- If you have questions about the suitability of an image, I might be able to help too, but I am by no means an expert on copyright law. There are a few editors that work with copyright stuff on FACs who could help you as well - User:Jappalang and User:Awadewit spring to mind. Parsecboy (talk) 22:49, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Also, the general Image use policy page could be useful as well. Hope that helps! Parsecboy (talk) 22:53, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Design fortress1.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Design fortress1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:52, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
2009 in film
editThanks for your contribution to 2009 in film. Make sure when you are adding an entry to the "Notable deaths" section, you update the table formatting. It's pretty easy, you go to the entry where it says your month:
| rowspan="4" align="center" valign="top" | <font-size=100%> '''[[Deaths in 2009|December]]'''
and you add one to the rowspan
| rowspan="5" align="center" valign="top" | <font-size=100%> '''[[Deaths in 2009|December]]'''
