Marquita Rivera
Hi Tony
Thanks very much for your extensive post on how to work Wikipedia...
I managed to figure out how to do an "info box", however...
I am having MUCH trouble trying to figure out how to put an IMAGE into the Info Box.
I'd like to use the image I already have on Marquita's page, but being a computer...amateur...I either end up deleting it in the sandbox.
Can you give me any help in layman's terms?
Thanks in advance.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, TONY!!!! Eugenebiscardi (talk) 19:23, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi Tony - thanks so much for your work on Marquita's page. I do have the photograph that you are talking about in our files. Do I submit that to Wikipedia, or would that just mean that the current photo would be replaced?
Also, the biography wasn't written by Eugene - it was written by an un-related party and proofed by me (Eugene's assistant). Please feel free to edit the "POVs" as you see fit. ~Cynthia

Hi Tony - I submitted the Rivera,Crosby,Hope picture to wikipedia and asked them upload it to the "career" section of her bio. I also added in the extra last line that you suggested re : Marquita's passing and her surviving family members. Thank you for the great advice - again. ~ Cyn
Eugenebiscardi (talk) 20:06, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi Tony - OK, I've uploaded it as Rivera,Hope&Crosby.jpg. Hope I did it right....~ Cyn Eugenebiscardi (talk) 22:47, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
I'll make sure I'll do that - in fact, I think I only need your email address and I can send you a link when it's finished. You're a military historian? Very interesting - my grandfather, Jack Harker, was a historian for the New Zealand Navy. He died 2 months ago, but not before leaving a large number of books on his great love, his last one released after he turned 90. ~ Cyn —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eugenebiscardi (talk • contribs) 01:10, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
"Famous Marine" edit
Tony,
I got a message about edits that were made to a Wikipedia page on "Famous Marines" which I did not make. This is weird...this is a new computer that only I have access to. I am not tech-savvy, so I can only assume that it has something to do with the IP address...but I myself have no opinion of "Carlos", and did not make any deletions.
Good luck and God bless,

Hi Tony,
Thought you might be interested in Marquita's video - I've sent you the link to YouTube.

Villaronga
Tony, we've got a bit of a problem with the Raul Villaronga article. I don't disbelieve you when you say that you've consulted with the Colonel yourself, but on OTRS, we got an e-mail from someone claiming to be his older sister; she's pointed out various details which she says are wrong.
You see how this is difficult, yes? DS (talk) 23:51, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
- User:Riana is another admin; she has OTRS access also, and made the edits in accordance with the request. It was... difficult to deal with, I'll tell you that much. DS (talk) 01:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Help with possible self-promotional article
Dear Tony,
This article smells of self-promotional, how can one go about investigating that and taking appropriate action depending on the results of that inquiry?
Thanks,
My Boxing Ring (talk) 04:51, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for reviewing the article. I've added a cite or two. Good luck when you travel to Puerto Rico next week. Wish I could be there then! Pr4ever (talk) 04:18, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

RfA: Many thanks | ||
Many thanks for your participation in my recent request for adminship. I am impressed by the amount of thought that goes into people's contribution to the RfA process, and humbled that so many have chosen to trust me with this new responsibility. I step into this new role cautiously, but will do my very best to live up to your kind words and expectations, and to further the project of the encyclopedia. Again, thank you. --jbmurray (talk • contribs) 06:13, 18 May 2008 (UTC) |
Books and articles
Hey Tony, I was wondering if you would be interested in helping me get a few articles promoted in two weeks, the thing is that I came accross several interesting books some time ago but translating big chunks of raw material isn't an easy task and I need someone with better grammatical skills to help me clean up after my mess. The first one of these books was titled Baldorioty, Apóstol and it covered Román Baldorioty de Castro's life, I already moved the material to the article but its most likely in need of a copyedit. The second one deals with the Puerto Rican Amazon which is already summarized and with Joel and Casliber's help its a current GAN. Then there is a book titled Lolita Lebron: La Prisionera which I intend to read soon, interested in working with these articles? - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:56, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, but there is no need to hurry, that is why I asked if you were available in two weeks. I will be able to attend anyone in need of help during the next week, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:19, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi, the link you just put on Ángel Ramos (educator) seems broken. Can you fix it? Also, is that a reliable source or just something someone self-published on his website? Thanks. --Damiens.rf 00:38, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Re:Angel Ramos
- Sorry, that I took so long to respond. I have an important out of country trip tomorrow and you know how it is. O.K. I did fix the link. Stan Griffin is a writer and contributor to Deaf Friends International an online magazine for the worldwide Deaf Community. Stan Griffin is the author of various books: [1]. Take care. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:42, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- But still, can we use what he post on his webpage as reliable sources? The guy seems to have good credentials, but we must be careful to avoid an argument per authority here. --Damiens.rf 12:41, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

- Hey Tony, its good to see you back, congrats on your recognition! - Caribbean~H.Q. 06:24, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Harvesting the product of all your hard work, they will keep coming, you certainly deserve them, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 06:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Senior Officer heading
Tony, On 4/10/2008 On the History of Hispanic Americans in WWII page, you added a subheading under Senior Officers called "Generales". Is this a typo? Best regards, Dave Dmercado (talk) 17:59, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Y va a seguir...
Hey Tony, I remember you asking about Eddie Ríos Mellado's involvement in the creation of the basketball three-point line. Apparently Eddie did invent the concept, and Jenaro "Tuto" Marchand is trying to get the FIBA's certification. If certified Ríos will most likely be inducted into the FIBA's international Hall of Fame. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:58, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, I will let you know if any news about it appear. Tony as a favor can you fix any noticeable issues on Román Baldorioty de Castro during this week? the thing is that I want to clear all the pending articles in June so in July the project can focus its attention in getting Puerto Rico to FA in time to have it on the main page by November 19. I will also begin large text additions to Lolita Lebron and Orlando Cepeda, leaving them ready for promotion sometime during August. - Caribbean~H.Q. 07:27, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Cool thanks Tony, by the way have you seen List of players from Puerto Rico in Major League Baseball? lately? - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:20, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Its already at WP:FLC, I'm waiting for some imput though. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:53, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Tony, I will nominate and work with any issues that may appear (I know you dislike GA reviews). Part of her early life is mentioned in the book, it will be interesting if this is mentioned, I will let you know by Monday, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:20, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Royal Navy ship formatting
Tony, currently US ships in Wikipedia are formatted as follows: USS ship name (hull designator) which automatically italicizes the ship names. This avoids having to use the | symbol to link to the actual article. But as I understand it, United Kingdom Royal Navy tradition calls for italicizing their ship names, but Wikipedia does not recognize the template: HMS ship's name (alpha-numeric digits). British ships use letter-number combinations as US ships use hull designators. How can we get this functionality built into Wikipedia at the code level? Respectfully submitted, Pen of bushido (talk) 05:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading your media there instead. That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!--OsamaK 01:48, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Juan de Amezquita
I'm going to discuss this with you properly, as I do feel that all of the sketches you have upload should be removed from the main space. This is in line with our policy of no original research. Basically, sketches are inappropriate as images of people as it effectively gives the uploaders the authority to decide what people look like, in the same way that (for example) if we allowed original research, we would give the editors the authority to decide what genre bands are. You claim that there are no free images- in that case, what are you basing your sketch on? J Milburn (talk) 11:22, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- I do appreciate that your image is almost certainly accurate, its just that we can't credit any one contributor over others in terms of 'trusting' them, and so if we allow your sketches of historical figures, we have to allow fanart of anime characters (as they could be argued to be more free than the real thing) and sketches of actors, singers and the like. I just don't feel that it is encyclopedic. Of course, you know an awful lot more about the subject matter than I do- if you're certain that no image of the subject could possibly exist, you could caption the image with something like 'A sketch based on Jose Andiono y Amezquita, descendant of Juan de Amezquita'. I think removing the sketch was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction for me, so I apologise for that. J Milburn (talk) 19:07, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Response and update
Hey Tony, I have always enjoyed reading these kind of articles, after all that's how I discovered WP:PUR, if my memory seves me correctly most of the missing information was removed from "general" history at the very begining of the US colonial rule when they tried to rename the island and change the main language, its a shame but collective efforts like ours and the one that El Boricuazo has will bring to light the actions of our predecesors. By the way, I forgot to mention this before but I already began summarizing Lolita's book on my sandbox, it did have a brief mention about her participating in a beauty pageant in Loiza, cool huh? - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:21, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ramón used to own an hacienda, based on the book it seems like he was unusually generous for the time, when people were often divided between aristocracia and jíbaros. It has been ages since the last time that I saw a piragua, it a shame since they are quite refreshing, especially when walking trough one of San Juan's strolls. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:12, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Info Box
Hi Tony,
Just wanting to know is there anyway for me to change the 'colour' of the infobox? (Marquita Rivera page)
And is there a way to make the picture appear larger?
Thanks.
~ Cyn
- Hello Cyn, it is always nice to hear from you. Infoboxes are standard in color. You may use, if you wish, the style that we used in Puerto Rican actor Joaquin Phoenix. Now, the size of the image can be changed by changing the "px". I wouldn't make the images too big, the image size in the article seem to be fine to me. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:31, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Hey tony,
How you doing? I'll leave the info box as is - but we really want the image to be a bit bigger...where do I find the "px" to change it? Thanks ~ Cyn —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eugenebiscardi (talk • contribs) 21:28, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Cyn,
Go to the Marquita Rivera and "click" on the edit tab (like you normally do to edit the page). You will find the following in the infobox: "imagesize". The image size is set at 170px, however if you want to make the image larger, just change it. Most images are posted within the range of 150px to 200px, depending on the size of the original image which was uploaded. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:14, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Latino Article
Hello Tony, as a Puerto Rican, also of Spanish and other European descent, as well as coming from a military family, it is an honor to write to you. Thank you for taking the great amount of time to research and write these awesome articles. Your dedication is truly outstanding. I write to you because I have been deeply troubled about the way the Latino article is being edited and was hoping that you would take a look at what is happening there. There is in particular, an agenda to separate Latin(o)s any historical significance. Also to minimize that the commonality of Latin and Latino terms, so as to give the impression that Latinos are not Latin. Please respond so I can fill you in with more details if necessary....Thank you...EDGARR (talk) 00:51, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, who could have guessed that piraguas could produce a article more than 8,000 bytes long, I for one didn't knew that piraguas make it to New York with the inmigration. I should note that the comment above is probably refering to a edit war that has been going on between EDGARR and SamEV at Latino (demonym), I protected the article once but EDGARR has continued it, using the talk page to claim that Sam is trying to push an agenda instead of seeking a consensus. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:09, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
