Félix Trinidad, I figure that this one should be easier than the others. It was worked earlier this year, with what intended to be a common expansion, but the fact that the article reached 25,000+ bytes made it clear that it has potential, something rare for a boxer from the 90s, an early-internet era. A lot of work was placed into building it, not to mention that Michael Devore provided a great copyedit. But the nomination was failed for some points that in all honesty seemed ridiculous, at the very worst "on-hold" worthy. That angered me royally, I tried to get back to it but ended shifting my attention to Puerto Rican Amazon. Two reviews where issued, the first one was just incoherent, one of the reviewers's "No Pass" points was that he wanted more detail in a gossyp involving a daughter out of wedlock. I realize that the second reviewer had little to no idea of which fights were important in his career, his first claim was that "the lead is too detailed", when we are only mentioning title or comeback fights; Trinidad fought a lot of huge names, its extremely hard reducing a lead while giving a comprehensive overview of the article. A lot of simmilar points follow, as well as an interesting conspiracy theory about the last name "Santiago" being used in a reference, en fin, toda una tragicomedia. - Caribbean~H.Q. 06:01, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

I nominated Puerto Rican Campaign. I resored a bit in Trinidad's biography, it was done mainly based on observations in past reviews when people have complained of lack of these (maybe trivial) details. Hey Tony, the "[author's last name] et al.," format is usually used when citing a book to avoid being repetitive, only after a "bibliography" section is build to list the books used. I began working with it after Puerto Rican Amazon made it to FAC, when Joel used it and I subsequently found it in other FAs. I'm not sure what Trinidad did during his free time, but my guess is that he enjoyed the money earned during his career, I saw him a few times in sports activities during his first retirement. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:56, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey Tony, I think the same, which is why the failure frustrated me, lets see how it goes now. I mentioned some articles ready for future work before, these are Luis Muñoz Marín, Luis Muñoz Rivera, Isolina Ferré and Orlando Cepeda in that order, in Muñoz Marín's case I will tweak the references later but the text is solid content-wise. Actually I was quite surprised that Trinidad was reviewed before Puerto Rican Campaign, there is a big backlog in the sports section. At least we have already saved the article and corrected the events, until we worked on it, the piece was just repeating the "picnic/parade" myth. I can assure you that these Boricuas will keep coming, Puerto Rico is by far one of the leaders (if not the leader) in talent per capita, we have hall of famers in most sports, arts, military heroes, etc., not bad for what some people call a "small island". - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:57, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Tell you what, I'm going to verify with Acaba's daughter whether or not he uses the accent. Elton John does not use his real name, and gets away with it on his article; therefore the same should be done with Acaba.

It depresses me that someone deleted my incipient Rick Amon article without giving an occasional (once-a-day) contributor a chance of defending or expanding it prior to deletion. What concerns me even more is that I get treated exactly the same as an unidentified one-time user who comes in and writes an unsourced self-serving bio of an unnotable subject. I hope that guy derives more pleasure from his draconian moves than the pain he caused me. I was going to research and write for an hour or two tonight, but now I'm turned off! Article needing to be deleted

Hello,

I am having trouble due to some Barack Obama supporters who refuse to follow rules.

The article Family of Barack Obama should be deleted, please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Obama family. You'll notice that this article was already shown to not be notable and was nominated for deletion. The content was moved into this new article name, and the old article name is now being used to direct to this article. Should be deleted asap.

Also, the article is about one notable persons non-notable family. Articles about notable families like the Kennedys are included because they have many well known and notable individuals in that family not just one or two. The "Obama Family" is not a notable entity like the Kennedys, it's not a royal family, it's just a list of non-notable people related to Obama. Paquito Cordero, HA!

Everyone in PR knows that Paquito Corder took advantage of Diplo's death, to the point that he put on black face to imitate Diplo. He only did it, however, after Diplo's death because before that, Cordero was an unknown.

Diplo produced La Taberna India, which he based on Duffy's Tavern, a famous USA tv show. Ed Gardner, the star of that show was a friend of Ramon Rivero (Diplo).

Frankly, mentioning the name of Paquito Corder on the same line as that of Ramon Rivero is an insult to Ramon Rivero, and everything he did for Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans, on the island AND in the mainland.

BTW, ask anyone, Paquito Cordero has also taken advantage of many of the people who have worked for him, to the point that Adalberto Rodriguez (Machuchal) died pennyless after working for Cordero for more than 15 years.

We own the rights to everything that has to do with Ramon Rivero (Diplo). Also, I would like to point out that upon Ramon Rivero's death, it was the people at India beer who, taking advantage of the death of Ramon Rivero, approached several producers in the island to revive La Taberna India.

Cordero and Tommy Muniz were among those, with Cordero ending up producing...and even appearing with blackface for a while.

The reason for La Taberna India being so successful had very little to do with Cordero and a lot to do with the memories of "Diplo", to the point that even after the tv audience rejected "Regerete", Corderon convinced Tino Acosta to go "blackface", again, to grab on to the dying recollections of the greatest actor/comedian in the history of Puerto Rico.

Also, FYI, the reason Ramon Rivero stopped producing La Taberna India, even though it was his show from end to end, was that he was doing 3 TV shows a week for the Valdes' (India beer). Because he was already ill, going blind because of his aneurism, he asked to cut back to 2 shows a week. The people at India, in particular Valdes, the owner, turned him down.

Ramon Rivero, therefore, left India, and began producing La Farandula Corona, which was on the air when he died. India beer sales slumped after that, the rest is history.

To this day, the only film evidence of the early television are the Farandula Coronas (you can see bits of them on Utube (Diplodice).

What is ironic, is that Ramon Rivero created La Taberna India in every way, and you have Cordero even today, claiming it for himself. This is one reason why everybody at the Fundacion Ramon Rivero is very vigilant. The creative legacy of Ramon Rivero is something very dear and important for Puerto Ricans all over.

Empty page of...

Tony,

I am taking the liberty of writing to ask you a favor. We tried setting up a page for Alicia Bibiloni, Ramon Rivero's wife, a well known actress of her own right in PR.

After several attempts, there are now 2 pages with that name, one page that includes her maternal last name (Alicia Bibiloni Marquez) and another with only her name (Alicia Bibiloni).

In addition, there is a blank page for Alicia bibiloni (note the last name is not capitalized). How can we delete "that" page to avoid confusion?

We have no idea how to do that. :(

Any suggestions or observations will be greatly appreciated.

• This is what I did. I created a "workshop" for you in your user page with the format that is used in Wikipedia for bios. You will find the wrokshop here: [[3]].

Write Alicia Bibiloni's bio. there. The name in the title should be the one she was best known as: Alicia Bibiloni. Within the first paragraph you can state that she was born as: Alicia Bibiloni Marquez.

When writing a bio here in Wikipedia, there are a few things that you must take into consideration. Do "not" post something that is considered POV. For example: Fulano was a legend, great, famous etc. It isn't allowed in Wikipedia for the simple reason that we owe oursleves to millions of readers and what may seem one way for some may not seem that way for others.

Another thing is that reliable verifiable references must be provided, otherwise an article may be nominated for deletion.

Bill Eddy

Watching the List of U.S. Marines, I saw your revert of Eddy, and did some searching and found the "Colonel Bill Eddy" article (which I see you redirected. Do you think William A. Eddy should be the name of the article? That is the name that the State Department has for his name as the U.S. minister to Saudi Arabia.) Interesting article, yes? I found his story fascinating — Navy Cross, Belleau Wood, professor, diplomat, etc. Take a look at the article now, I've cleaned it up a bit. — ERcheck (talk) 21:32, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Good to chat with you as well. I've been so busy in real life, and expect to be for a bit more. .... Had you heard of Col Eddy before this article? (I spent some time cleaning it up and gathering a bit more info and reference. Eddy has so much he's been a part of, there is probably a lot more verifiable, interesting information that can be added. For example, he was awarded teh Legion of Merit in World War II (though the original nomination was a much higher medal). After WW2 he kept close contact with the Marines and it was during a conversation with the Commandant of the Marine Corps in 1940/1941 that he offered to go back in to the Corps if he could be of use. — ERcheck (talk) 02:05, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to be ok, though my connection may suffer. We have a plan since moving here and know where to go. Construction in here is ages behind Puerto Rico in terms of safety, even fancy places like Coral Gables have some houses built in wood, which is why we figured a safety plan since then. And lucky for us we have family here. PR Campaign decorations

I noted that there was a comment about the two images of medals broke up the text of the article. I do agree with this, especially as what they illustrate is not a major point of the article.

I make this suggestion — delete mention and images of both, as written. Reasoning:

1. Cruz de la Orden de Merito Militar is not unique to the Campaign. There were likely a number of different decorations awarded. In this instance, I can find documentation that this medal was awarded to one individual for this particular campaign; as it is not the highest award of the Spanish military, I don't find it merits particular mention.
2. Army of Puerto Rican Occupation Medal is mentioned as being awarded for the campaign, but is actually awarded for service during the occupation after the Campaign was over. Spanish-American War#Military decorations indicates the particular awards for the War, with none being unique for combat service in PR.

I took a look at this article while adding mention of two delegations, the page seems to need some work. It has grown quite some since its creation and anons and other users have added unsourced information. Juanita Garcia Peraza information

Hi Tony,

I received your mail about the recent edits I mad to the Juanita Garcia Peraza. I understand your concerns, however, some information in that page is erroneous and if you verify sources, like you say you did, you will realize it. For example, Congregation Mita is not a pentecostal church, and let alone, is Mita the "incarnation of the Holly Ghost". There is a great article published by El Nuevo Dia, and also you could check the Congregation website. I obviously know the difference between an encyclopedia and a political or religious forum, as I have a Master's degree from Columbia University. Re:images

Tony, I looked at the article on both the university's computers and my own computer at home. My home computer shows the images in a tight fashion, a bunching effect but with the text clearly visable throughout the articles, but the high moniter resolutions ont he universities computers show that images to be too close togather, thus I am of the opinion that the images ought to be tweaked a little for the higher moniter resultion people. If you want I check back tomarrow and work through the universities systems to try and rearrange the images a little so they occupy less space in the article, although I caution that exercising this option may result in a loss of images in the article. Also, sorry about the delay in getting back to you, I ment to do so the day you asked but got caught up in family affairs, then a passing thunderstorm knocked out power and the net connection here at the house. Got your message. On the home computer the images look the same (by which I mean they are a littel close at points but not enough so to raise concerns); I didn't have a chance to use the higher moniter computers on campus today though, as most of the staff at our school were busy handling the death of Don Haskins and the fallout this has created. It depends, Luis Muñoz Rivera and Isolina Ferré are the two shortest articles and they are quite complete. Luis Muñoz Marín may have more potential due to its size (nearly 30,000 bytes) and scope. More members of Congress ask for Peralta review. I surely hope that they reconsider, it is obvious even to a mere corporal that this process was contaminated by politics. I read the article in this week's MCTimes [5], and I was surprised to read that a medical/forensic panel was used to help determine whether or not he was approved... Since when do awards, even the highest award, need anything other than eyewitness statements? I'm a bit confused too on another part: if the award was on President Bush's desk, then how did Secretary Gates reject it and lower it to a Navy Cross? Donald E. McQuinn

Only a small minority of the entries on List of U.S. Marines have a source included on the list page itself, so it must be acceptable for the source to be detailed on the person's page.

Nothing at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Sources says not to use information from the official author bio included in a work published by a third party, it only says to not use self-published sources. These novels were published by reputable publishers, not the author. Nor does the guideline say that the source needs to be readable online.

The official author bios from the novels state that Donald E. McQuinn was a U.S. Marine for twenty years.

Do some research before making false accusations. I wrote the Wikipedia page based on the "About the Author" bio included in the novels published by Del Rey. The page you say I copied did not include any biographical details until the following year. The reference cited was never the Wikipedia entry it was always the Del Ray bio for one of their authors. If your primary objection to the source (which I first described as the "author bio included in the novels") was my wording you could have made that clearer. Since "About the Author" bios are a common source for such subjects (and valid for authors when not self-published) this will likely come up again. Tony: When you get back, could you take a look at the ongoing problems I'm having with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Jpgordon , who has reverted my edits to the bios of several members of Congress that mention that they have produced a TV spot to endorse a federally indicted candidate (Acevedo Vilá), which is as remarkable a fact as if a congressman endorsed indicted Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens. One of the bio's, Rep. Hilda Solis even includes an item complaining that she refers to the President as "Bush" instead of "President Bush", yet that doesn't get reverted. I think there's some bias in reverting my item but not that other minor fact. Even after I rewrote my edits to keep it as factual as possible, and explaining it in the discussion page, the editor reverts it and says that "others should explain to me the NPOV policy" because he won't. I'd appreciate your comments, if for nothing else than my own education. BTW, where'd you travel to, to PR for another well-earned "homenaje"? Thanks, Pr4ever (talk) 23:00, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

However, more important than the name of the candidate and the date they started airing is the startling fact that these members of Congress would authorize the airing of endorsements of a federally-indicted candidate, be it Acevedo Vilá, state Sen. Shepard of Louisiana (who pled guilty yesteday), Congressman Jefferson of Louisiana (who incredibly qualified for a run-off in spite of going to trial in Dec. for the 90,000 bucks the FBI found in his freezer!!!), or Alaska Sen. In the Tony Santiago article, one of the references for "On September 7, 2006, he was named in a Puerto Rican political newspaper, “Claridad” as the “Puerto Rican who has made the most Contributions to Wikipedia”". is "article in Claridad" (in Spanish). September 7, 2006. I'm not proficient enough at Spanish to see if the site has an archive so that the article can still be found online. (It is not available from archive.org.) If so, could you send me the link? Do you know the title of the article and the author's name? Is Claridad a print paper? If so, do you know what page the article was on? Although not a sports expert, I know that Peter John Ramos is one of the very few Puerto Ricans who have played in the NBA, along with Carlos Arroyo (now playing in Israel!) and Jose Juan Barea. I checked his article and it has about 9 or 10 reliable sources and references. Afro-Puerto Rican

First off, I appreciate your edits on a number of Puerto Rican topics and vigilance in reverting the nonsense on many of the pages. That said, I think you made a tremendous mistake with changing the category of Afro-Puerto Rican to Puerto Ricans of African descent. Afro-Puerto Rican is actually a valid, correct term used not only when I was in college many years ago, but throughout the Internet and in most academic circles. It is not a new anthropological category and there is no social change effected by using this very common and accepted term.

By creating "Puerto Ricans of African descent" you hit a slippery slope, because there are many Puerto Ricans of partial or minimal African descent who are not black persons. We are trying to convey Afro-Puerto Rican, i.e. black people of the African diaspora in Puerto Rico, just like African-American, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Venezuelan, etc. Using your current category will cause this page to blow up with all sorts of non-black boricuas. • I have never in my life heard of the term "Afro-Puerto Rican". While it is true that "Puerto Ricans of African descent" would include many Puerto Ricans of partial or minimal African descent. How do we determine who is an Afro-Puerto Rican? Is an Afro-Puerto Rican a black person who does not have any "White" or "Taino" blood in them? If so then that would exclude people such as Arturo Alfonso Schomburg who was half white and Jose Campeche and Miguel Henriquez who were of mixed race. Puerto Ricans do not define themselves by enticity. What may apply to the United States does not necessarily apply to Puerto Rico since many Puerto Ricans are of mixed race. Who has the right to determine which Puerto Rican is "black enough" to be cateorized as an Afro-Puerto Rican? I oppose the concept of Afro-Puerto Rican until and unless a precise academic definition as of who is and what is an Afro-Puerto Rican is provided. Tony the Marine (talk) 18:50, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
