Norma AfD

Just voted on the AfD. I just looked at the article a couple of hours ago. LOL. Looked very good. As a side note ,been making some changes to the Puerto Rico main article. Hope people don't object. Joelito 05:00, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey there Tony!

How are you, sweet Tony? I enjoyed your article a lot! You know, I had never heard about Agueybana before? This is by far the best part of working on this new project - I'm following the articles listed at certain categories in order to tag them, and I take the chance to read them in the process. Every now and then, I syuble upon an extraodinary story, and I get caught reading it thoroughly. Yours is a great example: a magnificent article on a very interesting personality. I'll do some more research on him - thanks so much for that reference!
I must tell you, working on getting a WikiProject started can be an exhausting task - have you ever tried to make 600 edits in two days? whoa! But I must tell you I'm extremely pleased and satisfied. I had not felt so... Indian in a long time, and the beauty of native history and culture that can be learned in articles such as yours is a fulfilling reward. It's been so refreshing and nice to read your message, dear Tony :) Back to work! Kisses, Phædriel tell me - 06:29, 12 February 2006 (UTC) PS. I took the liberty to correct the colors at your Archive template - hope you don't mind ;) *smoochs!*

Agueybana

Hey Tony while looking for info of a pre-Colombus tribe, the Arcaico, I stumbled into the Aguebana article. It is a great article but I have a question. Wouldn't it be more appropiate that the article be named Agüeybaná which is now a redirect? Let me know your thoughts. Joelito 17:02, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Re:Chat

Your military history of Puerto Rico article is the best article regarding Puerto Rico that I have read. It was one of the reasons I started editing. It is very comprehensive and detailed. I do not see any major flaws in it. It is sad to see people targeting articles for no reason at all. It would be better if they dedicated their efforts in writing new articles or improving ones that really need help (such as stubs). I will continue the battle for righteousness with you.

As a side note I am writing an article on the Puerto Rican national bird, the Reina Mora (aka Puerto Rican Spindalis or Spindalis portoricensis). I'll let you know once it's finished. I am thinking of submitting it to the did you know section in the Wiki main page. I was thinking of something like ...that the Puerto Rican Spindalis is the national bird of Puerto Rico. Joelito 18:12, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Tony, Sorry I didn't read the message in time to vote. I'm happy that the result of the debate was keep. :) Sebastian Kessel Talk 19:24, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey Tony, thanks for letting me know about the VfD. I'm glad other admins realized he was vandalizing the wiki. You may want to alter your edit links so that they don't edit the first section but instead edits the whole article so people know the voting's closed. --Stux 04:26, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
Tony, I just found out about this and I am really sorry for not being there when needed. Its funny because this weekend I was with my wife spending some days at a resort and flipping channels I found that they were giving a "La Pensión de Doña Tere" rerun in local channel 6. I had to explain to my wife, who is from Peru, who Norma Candal was and her importance in Puerto Rico. Smylere Snape 17:32, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Esther Sandoval

Hi Tony, Thanks for your message, most kind! I'm quite happy that the paper reference to the El Vocero article on Sandoval contains details of her awards etc. as you say (and now I understand why you removed the tag before!). However, I was wondering if you could make explicit connection(s) to that as a reference, so that readers know where to go to follow up and verify information? I think the article would be greatly strengthened by the addition. Anyway, good to collaborate with you, Cheers, Sliggy (sorry, just typed it like an email, without thinking. Sliggy 11:51, 14 February 2006 (UTC))

You can count on me

Thanks for the message. You can count on me at any moment...that I am online of course! :) We just need to educate people on how wonderful and full of stuff our little island is! Smylere Snape 13:19, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Improperly tagged image?

I was working on WP:UI and found Image:PR Volibol logo.JPG. Someone put a Template:PD-US tag on it, since you wrote "public domain" when you uploaded it, but I don't see why it's PD. If it is, could you add the appropriate tag (faster if you do it than tell me to :)); otherwise, Template:Sports-logo is what you want. Thanks. Telso 07:53, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Casals Festival

We need an article for the Casals Festival, see http://www.festcasalspr.gobierno.pr/historia.html for a history about the festival. —Joseph | Talk 22:48, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much Tony, very nice article. =D —Joseph | Talk 05:43, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I noticed it and I was actually pondering if it was appropiate to list them all on the article (considering how big is the list and how impractical it is to manage). How about we create a list of artists that have participated in the Casals Festival? That way we can have a list of all the people that have participated, even those without a biography on Wikipedia. The participants paragraph can be cropped with a small list of mainstream figures that have participated. Something like, "Figures such as so-and-so have participated in the festival." I really like the idea of having a full list of participants, that way other contributors will notice that they don't have an article and create them. Comments? —Joseph | Talk 04:07, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Done, list of artists that have participated in the Casals Festival. I didn't sort them alphabetically however. I left a note on the talk page as well. I think I'm gonna request some help from the Music WikiProject people to help us with this list since I'm not familiar with the subject. —Joseph | Talk 05:02, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Agueybana

Looks like you did the right thing. As for my user page - I got upset last week about being dragged before the arbcomm over what I didn't think was such a big deal. I'll fix it at some point, but right now I am on a semi-break. I came very close to quitting, but I think it's better just to get a better perspective on things here. Re:WikiProject Puerto Rico, Portal , etc

Hey Tony. How you been? I have been busy at work on the WikiProject Puerto Rico. I have made many changes. I have also created the Portal:Puerto Rico and a template for PR municipalities (preview here). I would appreciate your comments, suggestions, ideas, etc. Joelito 18:49, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

"Nation"

Sure, I'm with you. While I don't like making an appeal "as an admin", it's worth saying "we have at least as much status as the MedCab" (more, honestly, since they are an informal grouping). Sceptre's a good guy, I think, but he's out of his element here. Most importantly, mediators don't make pronouncements, and they aren't supposed to take sides or argue with the participants. We aren't there to convince him or him us - he's there to help us to see each others' sides and help us to find an acceptable compromise. Guettarda 02:37, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi Tony, thanks for letting me know, I will stay outside of this. Is there a way that I can get in touch with you in private? —Joseph | Talk 21:43, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Re:DYK

I think the DYK - PR article will have to be moved to the Portal but I really believe that the information should be kept in the main Puerto Rico article. I hope concensus is reached to keep the info in Puerto Rico. Guess it wasn't such a great idea the creation of the portal after all. LOL Joelito 03:46, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Re: CHat

  • The main reason I haven't done anything in the user page is because I don't know how to. I'm new to wikipedia and I still need more time to get the hang of all the formating tricks available. What I mainly do here is go around reading for pleasure. Every now and then I fix some minor mistakes here and there the mayority of wich I do without even login on. Still, when I learn enough to make a decent page I'll do it. On another note I'd like for you to teach me how to post pictures in the wiki (and whatever is required in a picture page). I still don't know how to.Nnfolz 06:28, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Puerto Rican Miltay History

Hey tony. I was reading the webpage [1] and noticed that in its list of Military Instalations in Puerto Rico, it lists Fort Allen as been in Ponce, actually it is located in Juana Diaz, the city I am from. Since you are the editor I though you might want to fix that. Take Care.Cjrs 79 18:32, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

German immigration to...

Hey there Tony the Marine. As you can tell, I gave the article a once-over. I also uploaded a larger version of the Real Cédula and blew it up a little. I hope you weren't mad that I took Irish and Corsican immigration off the "See also" list--its just that I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the see also that comes at the end of an article (as opposed to the one that comes at the beginning of a section) was used to list articles that may be of interest but that had not been linked in the article. But I think you're right--it is more logical for those links go at the end, so I changed the links in the middle article to Corsican and Irish people, respectively. I hope this is an adequate compromise.

The only other thing I would suggest is possibly looking further into the conflicts in Germany that may have propelled some of that migration. For example, the Revolutions of 1848 were not mentioned, and it seems a bit unlikely that so much tumult would be the result of "proposed military reforms"! I don't know too much about Teutonic history, so I'm probably not the best person to help out with that (although I've heard in my family that one of my ancestors may have left Germany for New York to avoid fighting in one of those wars!)

But other than that, I thought it was excellent. You definitely have your use of imagery down. That's one thing I have to learn, is how to use more images in my articles.

Paz pues, and keep up the good work!--Rockero420 23:34, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Tony, I notice I made your list of good wikipedians to work with! I am honored. But I'm just going by User:Rockero now, no more numbers. So just a minor change. Thanks again, --Rockero 19:25, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Re: History of Earth

Wow; thanks for your comments, Tony. This is high praise indeed. You’re right about about trying novel ideas; there’s Timeline of evolution but I couldn’t believe no one had written anything like this before. Then again, it has been rather difficult even to come this far, and several good editors have been helping me out. I’m so glad you and Joelito enjoyed reading it! Despite my best efforts, the article is on the long side, and it's so easy to get caught up in “details” of this four-and-a-half-billion—year journey. I am hoping to get it to featured status one day, but I have a lot of referencing to do before I can even think about that. If you have any ideas, please feel free to suggest them. Incidentally, if you enjoyed this, you may be interested in Tufts University's Cosmic Evolution web site, which traces the whole history of the universe in detail, exploring scientific methods and such along the way. It kept me occupied for weeks! — Knowledge Seeker 07:58, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Thank you again, Tony. I very much appreciate the support and I hope I will be able to improve the article to do justice to this honor. — Knowledge Seeker 06:16, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for your note, Tony - sorry to be a nit-picker, but I always appreciate help on my pages if I slip up, too. Glad to be of help! Wow, you sure are a prolific Wikpedian - my small number of articles is pitiful by comparison. But no harm done, hey?  :) --SilverWings 09:59, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Re:German immigration to Puerto Rico

As always the article is superb Tony. I have a few suggestions if you don't mind. In the political situation 19th century Europe maybe a link to a main article can be given. My suggestion for main article would be German Confederation. That article basically explains in detail the situtation of Germany in the mid to late 1800's. Also I would like to see footnotes or references for the article. Specific references that come to mind are: Dr. Ursula's books or papers, the first Lutheran church and the Spanish Decree of Graces. Also a little more info on present day Germans. But again it's an excellent article , my suggestions are just a way to make it even better. Joelito 20:39, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

I guess that's a good idea (the bird thing). I still have a long way to go. I would like to make an article for every red link in List of endemic fauna of Puerto Rico. Again, thanks for the idea. Joelito 01:50, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi and History of Puerto Rico

Hey Tony, How you been?..How did the birthday go?...I hope all was well. I have been working on History of Puerto Rico. Copyediting, adding, removing, referencing, etc. It still needs a lot of work. I will also try to create article for some of the red links in there. I was thinking of asking for a peer review once I am finished. What do you think? Also I wrote an article on Fray Iñigo Abbad y Lasierra. Please check it out. Joelito 20:23, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

I will put some inotes as you have suggested and you are correct about the drowning of Salacedo so I will include that information as well. Also your articles on the immigrations are looking great. Joelito 16:10, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey Tony I have modified the municipalities' flags table. I currently have a preview in my sandbox. Tell me if you think it's an improvement from the one currently in the article. Joelito 14:05, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Need a favor

Tony: I need a favor. Can you semi-protect the Charles Bukowski article? Because I've been involved in editing the article I'm not supposed to do it. An anonymous editor keeps deleting a link on that page. I've left messages to discuss this deletion on the article's talk page (and said that if the consensus forms to delete the link then that's what we'll do). However, the anonymous editor just keeps deleting the link. I don't want to get into a revert war over this and a semi protect would let us discuss this on the talk page without the possibility of an edit war. thanks,--Alabamaboy 21:40, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm doing pretty good. For some reason the semi-protect didn't work and the guy reverted the article again (it's his 3 revert in 24 hours but I'm not going to block him b/c I don't want to be seen as abusing my powers or some crap). At this point, don't worry about the semiprotect. However, if you get a chance, please check out the discussion and throw in your own two-cents worth. I'm trying to be nice to this guy but he/she is being a jerk about this. As I said in the discussion, I originally put a number of positive links to Buk in the article and also place one negative criticism there so we had a balance.--Alabamaboy 00:19, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Suggestion for new article

Hey Tony I since you are the Puerto Rican migration expert I wanted to suggest an article on a very important migration, the Puerto Rican migration to New York. I am surprised that the article has not been written. On another subject, I have submitted history of Puerto Rico for a peer review. Some suggestions have already been left and I have implemented them. I have begun to insert inotes as you have suggested. I would like to try and send it down to feature article candidate this month but I would like your thoughts on that regard. Joelito 15:42, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

According to the Library of Congress Luis Llorens Torres founded the Independence Party [LOC http://www.loc.gov/rr/hispanic/1898/chronpr.html]. Before he was part of the Union Party.
I believe it may be too soon to request administrator status. Maybe in a month it would be more appropiate. But thank you for the support. Joelito 01:09, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Thank you Tony. I would be honored if you were my padrino here. Also, I forgot about your comments on list of puerto ricans. I believe we should discuss it in the WikiProject. Let everyone share their opinions and create a guideline that we could add to the article's talk page or maybe as hidden text within the article. Joelito 02:26, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Infoboxes for USMC personnel

I understand that you want to keep the Puerto Rican articles separate but these individuals are members of the US military. How will it look if every single individual article on USMC personnel has the same infobox except for the handful on those of Puerto Rican descent? I am sure you are fine with that but seeing as you were a Marine you also know it is not uniform and does not belong. It also opens up the window if people want to create infoboxes for Irish Americans or Italian Americans. There must be a compromise that can be reached here. Maybe add links to the Puerto Rico portal on the page? Create another box lower on the page that links to Puerto Ricn military people? I realize the frustration since I spent my first 3000 edits creating one whole set of infoboxes only to be told to bring them inline with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history. --Looper5920 05:28, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

  • I'm not going to fight you on this. Not that big a deal to me. However I will bet that eventually it will come up again however that person will not let it go. I appreciate where you are coming and the work that you put into those pages but if it ever comes to a vote in the future I will side for those that want unifomity. As far as the "Puerto Rican" thing. That was not my intent for it to be taken that way. Maybe I phrased that wrong. Anyway hope to see you editing other Marine articles in the future as we still have a ton of work to do. Cheers --Looper5920 07:27, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

About the 'Random page' tool

The other day I was bored and was browsing wikipedia using the random page tool. I noticed that I got a suprisingly high number of stubs and disambiguation pages. I was wondering if u had any idea where I could adress this, because i believe that they should somehow filter it so that only complete articles appear from clicking that link. I know u can't do nothing about it, but maybe u could lead me to somewhere or someone that could. Nnfolz 23:38, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Re:Puerto Rican migration to New York

Thanks. Joelito 14:44, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

I, in turn, have created a template that links all Puerto Rico migration articles. Template can be found here. And this is the corresponding link {{Puerto Rican migrations}}. Joelito 16:59, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
The template was created from a template at History of Iran. I wanted to have a navigation box that linked all migration articles and also to give all articles the same style. Finally, I thought of uniting all articles into a migration article or The formation of Puerto Rican society, or something like that. Joelito 19:30, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Boricua Independence Movement

Hey Tony! ¿Cómo estás? Remember when I suggested creating a category as a way to organize the various activists, organizations, etc. from across PR's history? Well, I have been thinking about this, and I think a series box might be better. I have started working on one this sandbox: User:Rockero/Puerto Rican Independence Movement Series Box and I'd appreciate if you and maybe Joelito would take a look at it. It is very incomplete at the moment, so I need your help to flesh it out and make it comprehensive. Then if the members of WikiProject Borinquen like it, we can add it to the articles. Gracias,--Rockero 19:33, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Gracias por el barnstar Tony, I'm honored! About the independistas: I'd say that depends on how many of them there are. If it's not too many, I see no reason why not to include them. If there is just a ton, then let's make a list page and add a link to the list onto the series box. Sound good?--Rockero 06:33, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Flags of Puerto Rico

Hi Tony. Sorry to bother you again today but I was reading your article on Flags of Puerto Rico and I noticed what might be errors in some of the dates. Especifically it states that the Dark Blue Flag was adopted in 1954 but according to [2] the Flag was approved in 1952 when the Constitution was approved. Another possible error is " In 1954, Puerto Ricans were permitted to elect a governor". I am almost certain that Puerto Ricans were allowed to elect a governor since 1948, Marín's irst term.

Resident Commissioner of PR

Hello Tony. I noticed the messages that you added to the talk pages of the resident commissioners. I must say that after reading both Public Law # 600 and the Jones_Safroth Act, the Resident Commissioner is, constitutionaly, a member of the U.S. Congress. Public Law # 600 explicitly says so. Moreover, Resident Commissioner Fortuno appears as a member of Congress in the House Representatives Website. The fact that he doesn't have a vote should not be the "reason" why people would reach the conclusion that Fortuno is not a member of Congress. Remember, the Resident Commissioner does have vote in the committees of the House. Another fact is that the Library of Congress includes all the former Resident Commissioners of Puerto Rico in the "Former Members of Congress" list.<<Coburn_Pharr>> 01:27, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Afican immigration to Puerto Rico

I indeed had seen your article Tony. Found it since you edited the template which I have on my watchlist. As it stands the article reads a little cumbersome, some sentences need rewording. Also some references would ne nice. Joelito 17:22, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

To the best of my knwoledge the Portuguese had nothing to do with naming the island Porto Rico. None of my references even suggest it. The only references of Portuguese people in Puerto Rico concern the initial garrison of the forts of San Juan. It is however correct that Puerto Rico in Portuguese is spelled Porto Rico but as you have indicated the name was given by the USA in 1899. Joelito 02:17, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:RCamacho.jpg

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:RCamacho.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 16:19, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Because you seem to be responsible for large numbers of articels on your... err... Commonweath (I think it's called that?)? (I know its offically the "National" one, but still, your articels on P.R. were the perfect excuse to use it, so I did. 68.39.174.238 22:34, 1 April 2006 (UTC) (PS. Your userpage is side-scrolling with the "Military decorations" box getting pushed to the side.)

List of Puerto Ricans

Tony I think we really need to get some guidelines on List of Puerto Ricans. People add non-notable people every day. Joelito 00:27, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Is there something wrong with mentioning which cemetery he was interred in? -Dawson 04:50, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Oh definitely cool, I was just perplexed - it seemed like a very odd revert, but figured I would ask. I've bumped into people who lay claim to articles and snarl and growl at you for every edit like they were a dog and you were taking away their food bowl. :) Thanks for the additions to Puerto Rico National Cemetery, there are a lot of interments there, I'm sure there are many notables, which from your edits seems to be more your area of expertise. Cheers. -Dawson 05:37, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
