References tip

edit

I noticed this edit and thought you might find this a useful tip.

A citation only needs adding in full once, in an article. After that it can be referenced by name, which is a lot easier. Example:

Grass is green.<ref name="cnn">{{cite news|cnn|.....etc...}}</ref> In addition, snow
is white<ref name ="cnn" /> and the sky is blue.<ref name="cnn" />

The name can be any string (quotes optional if it doesn't contain spaces), so these are all valid names: "cnn" "BBC 1 may 2004" and "microsoft-003". The cite must be given once in full, all other mentions end with "/>" which indicates it is self-closing, there is no matching "</ref>" tag.
