  Hello, Mark.longuet-higgins. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Michael S. Longuet-Higgins‎, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.

  • I don't want you to be too alarmed by the above notice. As far as I can tell, your edits to the article are good. However, you do need to be aware of the apparent conflict of interest and the need to be careful editing this article. Any questions, just ask. Mjroots (talk) 20:06, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Hi, yes, there is plenty of process and procedure around here, and it can be pretty daunting for a newcomer. What would be really helpful would be if you could cite things to specific pages in textbooks, specific newspaper articles or reliable web pages (like the NERC oceanography centre): it isn't enough to give vague general indications like Royal Society Biographies, which are not traceable - I did just check. It's your responsibility to provide verifiable sources, not ours to try to chase them down for you. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:35, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
