Ethiopia-Semitic Languages

edit

Hi! I saw your recent edit to Ethio-Semitic languages regarding the history of grammatical evolution away from Ge’ez-like features. This is the kind of claim for which we really need citation in Wikipedia. Could you provide that? Much thanks! Pathawi (talk) 09:57, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for not providing citation, I provide the Amharic poem Margama Kibr as evidence.I speak Amharic, I am a native speaker and I also have knowledge of Ge'ez and one can't help but notice the similarity between them and the Old Amharic Margama Kibr has a lot more words and grammatical properties that are very similar to Ge'ez than Modern Amharic. I see. A really core part of how Wikipedia works is that information has to come from reliable sources, usually secondary. WP:RS gives the guideline on this. There's a policy against our own research detailed at WP:OR. Information doesn't just have to be right—it has to be externally verified. Sometimes when people just start out at Wikipedia it can feel like every edit they make gets reverted. It might be useful to check out Help:Introduction and go through some of the tutorials to get familiar with the guidelines and policies. Pathawi (talk) 12:03, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
