- Hello @Sklarjo:, as another editor explained at the top of your draft:
Please do not resubmit this draft. AFC is not used to propose expansion or changes to existing articles. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:19, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- AFC is only for drafts of totally new topics. Wikipedia does not replace existing articles with new ones, we modify the existing articles to improve them, so please feel free to start incorporating your drafted materials into the existing article, in collaboration with the other editors working on that main article. GYMGUYZ Wikipedia Help
Hi Matthew, Thank you for taking the time to review the page I submitted for GYMGUYZ. This is my first time writing a page for Wikipedia and obviously, I want to do the best job possible when getting this information onto the site. That being said, I was wondering if you can provide some more direct suggestions on how to get this page up and running. Given the lack of unbiased/neutral information available on GYMGUYZ on the internet, finding sources is proving to be a little bit difficult. What can we do to get this page approved using the sources that we have? Please advise when you can, thank you!
- Hello @Rgenhofer:, the main response is that if there's a "lack of coverage" of Gymguyz by neutral, unbiased commentators in news media, business journals, academia, etc. it might not yet qualify for a Wikipedia article. Wikipedia doesn't qualify people/things/organizations based on whether we personally think they're important or not, but rather based on the amount of outside commentary about them. If Gymguyz gets coverage in several major newspapers, Fortune magazine, various physical fitness mags or business journals, it would totally qualify. In the short term though, it looks like most of the coverage you've included is interviews with the founder (can be used to substantiate his own comments but don't count as outside analysis), business listings (listings, ratings, franchise profiles etc. do not count if they don't have expert, vetted analysis included, we're not a directory), and the company's own materials and press releases. Again I strongly advise you look at WP:Notability (businesses) to see the qualifications; fundamentally, we don't publish articles to help publicize and get more people talking about a subject, we publish what's already being said about the subject in a short, summarized digest form. Makes sense? MatthewVanitas (talk) 14:50, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
What more historical data do you need?
What more historical data do you need? The reference of the Production Company and Management can prove a record was cut and the powerful notoriety of this powerful Chicago Rock band....
- Hello @76.101.127.133:, did you read the advice left on the top of your page? Telling me to refer to the production company or management has nothing to do with qualifying your draft to be published. Please read WP:Notability (music) which explicitly explains the guidelines for what a music article must include. After you read it, feel free to post back right here and ask any follow-up questions, but please don't just guess that you think that I think is wrong and then argue about it, because you're guessing completely different things. Please read the pink Decline box and read the linked guideline there and it will become much clearer. Then after that feel free to post here with any questions. Article IBM System/360 Model 25 renamed to 360 Model 25
Matthew,
On March 18th, you moved my draft article "IBM System/360 Model 25" to "360 Model 25". Can you please explain what was the reason? The existing articles about other /360 models are all titled "IBM System/360 Model nn" (check the articles for models 30, 44, 50, and 67), so I think this should be kept as "IBM System/360 Model 25" for consistency.
Thanks,

Dear Vanitas,
You are declining this page because you said that the article is based in just one website, but the website The Most Travelled People is the most recognised and the only one in the world which rank the travellers and you have to prove the trips you have done. In this case it is a very trustfull website. The best one in the world to rank travellers.

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Gauteng 14.2/sandbox/NMMU Gauteng 14.2 Jim Collins Level 5 Leadership

Proposed deletion of Bhanot Rajputs
The article Bhanot Rajputs has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Doesn't meet WP:NOTABILITY
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Boleyn (talk) 20:39, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

- Hello @Maral ko:, SpeedyDeletion is not controlled by the Wikimedia foundation, they're an unrelated website that captures free content from Wikipedia and publishes things that Wikipedia has deleted. I nor anyone at Wikipedia can help you delete such a page over there, so your best bet is just to create a Draft page using WP:Article wizard and submit it for review, then your correct article will become the higher google hit of the two, pushing the SpeedyDeletion one lower down.
- When you start your new article, remember you need serious media sources, not blogs and info pages, so use news articles, magazine articles, etc as your sources, do not include anything that you cannot cite to a reliable source. Make sure you reed the comment I left at the top of your article (SpeedyDeletion included my comment too). Start your new draft and go through the AFC review process to get feedback and hopefully eventually get it published. MatthewVanitas (talk) 14:41, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I am a new Wiki user and would love some help on setting up my new Wiki page - I am a colleague for the business and would love to get a page built to inform users about our amazing history! There is knowledge that people would love, and can learn and discuss from. Thank you! Perry
- Hello @Plally1995:, did you read the comments I left you in the pink box at the top? You must source all information (other than basics like where it's founded, who's in charge, etc) to outside, neutral sources like newspapers, magazines, etc.
- Also note, a Wikipedia page is about a company, not for a company. If the article even slightly smells like it's advertising, the draft will never get published and if someone posts it anyway it'll be deleted. Nobody cares how "amazing" people involved with the company think it is, they care what neutral outside experts have to say. You have to let the facts speak for themselves, and leave out all personal opinions and any hit of self-promotion.
- I strongly advise you read the guideline WP:Conflict of interest to make sure you don't go astray.

Thank you for the suggestions, as I am not a super Wikipedia contributor. As suggested, I will search for more citeable historic facts about the school, but please note that this is a high school, not a university or a college. I would like to direct your attention to the Wiki page for one of our sister schools, The Sacred Heart School of Halifax. Please tell me if you find it significantly different from what we were proposing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Heart_School_of_Halifax
- Hello @Isabelbrinck:! No worries, everyone has to start somewhere, just take your time and take feedback step by step and you'll be fine. High schools broadly speaking inherently meet our requirement WP:Notability, but you still want to have as much external sourcing as possible to substantiate facts of interest. I think I recommended WP:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines to you? Worth a read-over, helps really clarify what school articles should have.
- I took a look at Sacred Heart School of Halifax, and it's not great but not bad, but I had to remove some admin minutiae like staffing and over-detailed description of divisions (I summarized it in a shorter sentence). You must understand that a Wikipedia article is not "a fun homepage for the school" or "useful advice for prospective students", it's mean to capture key facts that a completely uninvolved outsider would find informative. So no class schedules, no lists of personnel (excepting it's okay to mention if someone quite famous is a staff member or alumnus, like someone that has their own Wikipedia page), and no minutiae about what the class play was this year or if they have AP Calculus. What we want is key data like when it was founded, any architectural distinctions, any high-level awards (not just local achievements), notoriety or scandals, anything innovative that's captured media or academic attention beyond just the local level, etc.
- Take a look at the changes I made to the Halifax school and the formatting, take a glance at the Guidelines, make your changes and click Resubmit. Thanks for writing! MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:37, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Re-producing Wiki Page
Hi, Matthew I tried to create a wiki-page for one of my favourite Australian journalists (Michael Baron) about a year ago but it did not comply with the Wiki requirements. As far as I understand the main problem was - lack of 3d party references to the person I was writing about as I was referencing his own publications. I have googled him and his work today and found papers where others referred to him so will try to prepare a more appropriate Wiki entry this time. Let me know if my understanding of the requirements is correct. thank you very much for your help. have a nice day. Michael Sun — Preceding unsigned comment added by MichaelSunBeijing (talk • contribs) 16:30, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @MichaelSunBeijing:, if you have the exact URL of your former draft, you can request it be undeleted at WP:REFUND so you can resume working on it.
- So far as meeting the criteria, my best advice is read WP:Notability (people). The key requirement for the subject of an article is other people are talking about them and their work. Not that they've published a lot of things, not that they're listed on some catalog of have X degrees, it's other people writing about them. Give that a read, get your deleted draft restored if you can, and let me know if you have any questions. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:18, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

- Stunnerggg (talk · contribs)
Thank you for your observations, please can you point out the areas where i need to edit or correct.
THANKS
- Hello @Stunnerggg:, the main issues:
- You just lumped a few small footnotes at the very bottom, so you have whole paragraphs and paragraphs full of facts but give the reader zero idea where these facts are documented. You need to place footnotes at the end of each passage, letting the reader know where they can see those facts documented.
- You can't simply cite his employer, his employer is not a neutral, outside observer. The majority of facts, and any "claims to fame" should be cited to an outside expert like newspapers, journals, etc. Not his personal webpage (except for the most basic of biographic data), not to his employer, but to neutral authorities. Not just generic awards listings, not blogs or Facebook, reputable sources of information that research and document facts.
- If you can more clearly cite your facts, and include sources that prove uninvolved, neutral experts have found Ofoegbu worth writing about, then that will be substantial progress towards getting the draft published. MatthewVanitas (talk) 00:53, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

I submitted it as a draft for feedback, but it wasn't complete. I looked at other people who have similar backgrounds to Pollys, Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach for instance, and didn't see external references in their wikipedia pages. I also looked at the page of Murray Bookchin, who I knew personally, and noticed that his page does list all of his books and many of his articles. I thought that the list of articles was way too long and I will take some of those out and just write a summary of the topics that she has written about.
Polly is actually very well known, has done a TED talk, has been interviewed on television by Katie Couric, speaks all over the US regularly, and is generally widely respected for her work. How do I show this without writing corny things like: "According to Jack Kornfield, Polly is...."?
Finally, I'm new to wikipedia. We realized that Polly doesn't have a wikipedia page, but should. There is one in Spanish language, but you have to go to the Spanish language page to find it.
Regards,

- Hello @Polly Young-Eisendrath: (Paula), you're on a good starting track but I need to clear up some points to help clarify how Wikipedia works best:
- You really shouldn't be using Y-E's name as your username. It could be misinterpreted as pretending to be her, and if your intent is to hand her off your user account, that's really a bad idea both because a) accounts are required to belong to one person, not be shared or gifted, and b) Y-E should emphatically not be editing her own article. It is an extremely bad idea for a subject to be involved in their own article, it destroys objectivity. Other than glancing occasionally to make sure that no vandalism or uncited material has popped in, Y-E should avoid this article entirely. I would suggest you swing by WP:RENAME and request the name be changed to either your own name, or a pseudonym.
- You can't always use existing articles as a rock-hard guideline, because WP articles vary in quality, and mirroring a bad article just makes another bad article, and the whole point of the AFC process is to guide you to creating a strong one, not just match the weakest comparable article you can find. Our actual informal guideline on this is WP:OSE, "other stuff exists", meaning that finding a weak example doesn't justify asking for leniency in your own, the goal is to meet a high standard.
- Similarly, if she was a Wikipedia page in Spanish that doesn't have much sourcing, that doesn't mean we should let her slide here. Spanish Wikipedia might have different customs, or just be having a tough time holding everyone to standards, but again you've requested help through AFC and we'd be doing you a disservice not to help you hold yourself to a high standard, and honestly allowing a poorly-sourced article does Y-E a disservice too, since it gives the article's readers no clear way to source facts, and makes it hard to tell if unsourced mistakes are introduced.
- I don't routinely cover authors, so I can't speak on the best way to cover her works without just being a huge list, so I'll defer to others there.
- Regarding your comment and didn't see external references in their wikipedia pages, that's incorrect, if you scroll to near the bottom of Kornfield or Boochkin's pages, there are many citations to newspapers, books, etc. that discuss them. That is what we're looking for. Note though that Kornfield's sourcing is pretty good, but Boochkin's cites his own works too much, avoid doing that. Again an encyclopedia is a tertiary source, so should be almost entirely citing secondary sources, not primary like the subject themself. If Bookchin said "XYZ", in principle Wikipedia doesn't care about it unless say the New York Times says "Bookchin said XYZ, which is interesting because...". Kinda "if a tree falls in the forest" situation, you see?
- Right now you claim many facts about Y-E, but with no attribution. What you need to do is dig up news articles, articles from religious journals, mentions of her in books, and compile what other people say about her. Not what she or her publisher or her employer say about her, but things that outside neutral parties have found comment-worthy about her. You have to clear your head of any facts you personally know about her, and focus only on that which is documented.
- If you can put together a clear, concise summary of her career and impacts as documented by outside experts, that will be of the greatest service to Y-E and an article that readers can read, verify, and trust. And Y-E herself should have no hand in the article, but at most observer it from afar and catch any vandalism should it occur. All that make sense? MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:11, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Hello, the above subject headline is my article in the draft for review, please may i know if there is any other thing i need to do?
thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stunnerggg (talk • contribs) 20:45, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @Stunnerggg:, we're stepping forward. Please note, you can make a simpler link just like this: Draft:Lambert Ofoegbu.
- Along those lines, do not use footnotes for links to terms like Igbo, etc. just type them like this [[Igbo]] and they will appear as links, like this Igbo. Please go and fix any footnotes you mistakenly have to other Wikipedia articles, make them wikilinks instead.
- Next, as I commented before, you need uninvolvd expert coverage of Ofoegbu. What you need to do is find newspaper articles, journal articles, mentions in books, etc. of him and cite those. We do not care what his school has to say about him or Project Management has to say about him, we care what major Nigerian and international newspapers, business journals like Forbes, etc. have to say about him.
- For any fact in your article, ask yourself "have outside experts found this fact worth documenting about him?" If you cannot find mention of it in media or academia, that means (as far as we can see) that nobody not directly involved with him has cared enough about that fact to document it, so our readers don't need to know it. It doesn't matter if it's all over PM's website, his school's website, his Twitter, we only care about facts documented by outside experts.
- So to summarize: turn all your mistaken footnotes into wikilinks (should take about 10 minutes), and then you need to take a hard look at the facts you present, and keep only those that you can explicitly site to a reliable news article, journal article, academic analysis, etc. Again, a Wikipedia article must be an outside view of the subject, not just repeating what they say about themselves or their employer says. Does that all make sense? Good luck! MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:59, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Okay, thanks a lot, i will do as instructed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stunnerggg (talk • contribs) 21:10, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

- Hello @Stunnerggg:, please see the edits I have made further on your draft: Draft: Lambert Ofoegbu.
- One issue, and this is a common mistake, is that you wrote the draft by just writing whatever you like, and then try to add sources. This is a backwards way to write it, and gets very confusing. You should assemble your sources first, and then write summaries of his life and accomplishments citing them to your sources. I see you have added a number of sources at the end, but you need to place your citation codes next to the specific facts they support.
- For example, if you say he went to Such-and-Such school, there should be a clear footnote right at the end of that sentence to a news article that mentions he went to that school. It is not the reader's responsibility to have to look through all the sources trying to figure out where a given fact is proven, it is the writer's responsibility to make it explicitly clear to the reader exactly where these facts are substantiated.
- The next step right now is to place the "ref"-coded footnotes next to the facts they support. You can take a quick look at WP:REFB for some basic guidelines on how to apply your footnotes. Please make that fix, and then click the Resubmit button on your page if you have not done so already. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:21, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Yamaguchi Katsuhiro
hi you just reviewed that article and the reason for refusing it was "notability" ??? Are you kidding ? He is one of the most important Japanese artists and not "notable"? Did you see how many prizes he got? What's your point? c. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hidden-noise (talk • contribs) 22:13, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @Hidden-noise:, I advised you to read WP:Notability (artists), and I take it you haven't read it, no? "Notability" is absolutely not "I've looked at his career and I've decided he's important". Notability is explicitly defined as "outside, uninvolved experts are talking and writing about him". A subject doesn't become Notable by your listing out what prizes he's won or what exhibitions he's in, it's by citing facts documented about him by newspapers, art journals, books about artists, etc. That is what defines Notability. I'm not saying "he's unimportant", I'm saying "your article doesn't cite these claims about him, you need to show that outside experts found him literally comment-worthy".
- If he is indeed "one of the most important Japanese artists", then there should be a ton of articles written about him (you can cite articles from any language), so you need to cite what others have written about him. Not his blog, not his employer's site, not a promo artist's bio from a gallery, you need to cite actual professional critical writing by journalists, artists, academics. You have to show not just that he exists or that his art is good, but that facts about him have been documented and found worth discussing by experts.
- Right now you have a ton of facts and claims in your article, but not one single footnote so a reviewer or reader has zero idea where any fact is proven. You can't write a Wikipedia article by just summing up things you know and then saying "btw here are a bunch of links, good luck". You have to clearly cite your facts to the source you got those facts from. If readers can't quickly and easily check your facts, nobody can trust the article.
- Overall, making sense? For real, if you glance at WP:Notability (artists) you'll get a much clearer idea of what's needed to publish. If you have any follow-up questions let me know; I'm a volunteer here and my whole goal is helping people like you craft a strong and sourced article, and I'd be letting both you and Katsuhiro down if I just let an article slide through without footnoting. Hi Matthew. Why do I keep getting a resubmit button when I check my sandbox? I can't tell if it's being rejected again after my edits supporting notability or if it is for some other reason. Thanks.
Hi Matthew,
Thanks for your help. I have made some improvements and was wondering if I could ask you: what else do you think the page needs? Thanks so much — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.234.242.248 (talk) 16:28, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
