Message at JzG's page
editJzG is on a wikibreak and may not be able to answer promptly. The message you received above was a standard warning about advertizing. The name of your account suggests that it might be used by more than one person (i.e. please see WP:ISU; a username change can be requested at WP:RENAME, or a new account may be created and this one abandoned). Moreover, links to may12th.org were also posted without much more material, this looks a lot like WP:SPAM. Since you have mentioned an association with a May 12 event, I will also post a standard notice about how to manage a conflict of interest on Wikipedia below. I hope this was helpful, —PaleoNeonate – 18:37, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
PaleoNeonate thank you for your post. The facts are that I stumbled onto the page I edited and saw that it had factually incorrect and libelous statements written by somebody that didn't know what they were writing about. I thought I'd do the nice thing and fix it so it was more accurate. JzG came along and reversed what I had written and restored it to the original libelous statements. This is now proving to waste a lot of my time I was never willing to invest. So I'll leave it to you to decide if it should remain wrong or if it should be fixed and either restore what I wrote or write your own version or do nothing. This experience has convinced me that I will never attempt to contribute to wikipedia again and I will never trust the information on the site. For the record, may12th is used by 1 person and that's me. My role is a volunteer and I receive zero compensation. I don't believe there is any conflict of interest. It is very simple - wikipedia has incorrect information on that page and I've given you the correct information. It's up to you and JzG if you want the page to continue to be wrong or if you want it fixed and to take the steps to fix it. May12th (talk) 04:26, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello again. If a secondary source can be found to support the material you wanted to add, I would still suggest renaming the account (or creating another account and abandoning this one), and to post a request at the article's talk page citing that source. If that does not work, WP:NPOVN may be useful for wider community input. I only add this last part because you mentionned libel: make sure to avoid making legal threats per the WP:NOLEGALTHREATS policy, but I don't think the above qualifies as such (however, per WP:BLPRS, potentially libellous statements about a living person not supported by reliable enough sources should simply be deleted from articles). Finally, take your time, the encyclopedia is always a work in progress (WP:WIP). —PaleoNeonate – 19:29, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
- I have deleted the contested claim from the article as it had no source, either. --Joshua Issac (talk) 21:53, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Standard notices
editManaging a conflict of interest on Wikipedia
editHello, May12th. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. —PaleoNeonate – 18:37, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
User name
editWelcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "May12th", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. —PaleoNeonate – 18:37, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

editIt also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.
Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".
If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page.
You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text
{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.
Thank you. TheSandDoctor Talk 00:16, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
