The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Your edits to Ken Yeager

edit

Hello, I'm Lincolnite. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view and an impartial tone. Your recent edit to Ken Yeager, where you inserted biographical information from his website, did not seem impartial to me, so I removed it for now. Per WP:IMPARTIAL, "neutral articles are written with a tone that provides an unbiased, accurate, and proportionate representation of all positions included in the article." Phrases like "As a Supervisor, Ken is committed to the health and well-being of the residents of Santa Clara County" or "Ken is a proponent of expanding and improving public transit systems as a means to better the environment and enhance economic productivity" do not sound impartial to me. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Lincolnite (talk) 11:06, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Ken Yeager. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. I apologize, my intention was not to do the things you've suggested. I tried to make the content objective and free of commentary. I'm also new to Wikipedia and don't know how to do any coding. Would you mind telling me which aspects of the page seem promotional? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcountsnelson (talkcontribs) 20:31, 25 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
To be honest, it was basically the entire block of text you added to the opening paragraph. It was unnecessarily long (the same info was conveyed a few paragraphs lower in the article in a much shorter space of text), while the tone came off as promoting Yeager and felt as if it was coming from a campaign website (especially calling him "Ken"). I'm glad to hear that you're interested in contributing to Wikipedia! I'll throw a Welcome post at the top of your text page and there are some great resources to help new editors learn how to use Wikipedia and how our policies work. RA0808 talkcontribs
