Alcoholism

Medical Man, I saw your edits to the Alcoholism article and looked at some of your edits in other alcohol related articles. Hi, Medical Man. You keep stating that there is no proof that alcoholism is a disease. There's plenty of proof...what exactly would you like to see? There are twin studies, adoption studies, neurophysiologic studies, PET, SPECT, and other scans, and several hundred years of anecdotal descriptions of the disease with a standard course and symptom profile. I'm not sure what it would take to convince you, but the rest of the medical community is convinced. Drgitlow 02:22, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it would have been awful to be a physician in the 1700's, wouldn't it? No antibiotics, no syringes; heck, they didn't even know about the importance of washing their hands. Request for Comment on Dr Gitlow

Hi, Medical Man. I'm planning on reverting my RFC on DrGitlow on the condition that he joins me and the other interested parties in a non-wiki based forum where we can discuss our differences. I'd specifically like to invite you to join us. I'm setting up a space at the Intellectual Icebergs forum so that this might be accomplished. I seriously think that the linear format of wikis is non-condusive to this kind of argument.

Alcoholism v3.0

Hi MM, I'm really pleased that you seem agreeable to the compromise intro I proposed. If it gets good reviews from the others then we can continue to move forward. Thanks for your comments on my Talkpage, your support means a lot to me. I had reviewed the article's history before I got involved, so I think I understand the frustration you had been feeling. There really does seem to be a new spirit of cooperation between the editors now, and I'm hoping we can use that to build a better, stronger article. Thanks, it's really been a pleasure getting to know all of you and being able to work together. When I first "stepped in" to the article I was ready to get flamed and be sent running away with my tail between my legs. Instead, I was made to feel so welcome that it's now very natural to think of the work group as "our team". Fillmore study

I've misplaced my copy of the Fillmore study (Addiction Research & Theory), the one that spoke of the prospective studies on longevity and moderate alcohol intake having a systematic error. Do you have a text or pdf copy of it still? For some reason, the journal isn't on medline and I can't find a copy of it online (though I could swear I did just that last week).
