Arielle Kayabaga

edit

I undid your edit to create a link to Arielle Kayabaga in the London, Ontario article. You've kind of got the process backwards - first establish an article for the person to establish her notability - THEN create links to the article. PKT(alk) 11:23, 4 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

You'll also need to be aware that city councillors in places that are not in the global city class (Toronto, Montreal, New York City, Chicago, etc.) are not automatically deemed notable just for existing. In order to establish that Arielle Kayabaga is notable enough to have a Wikipedia article at all, you will have to show her as being much, much more prominent than most other city councillors, such as by showing that she receives nationalized coverage far, far beyond just London's local media. I'm not seeing any evidence that she does, but that is the standard you would have to meet to get a city councillor in London ON considered notable enough to have an article on here. Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Meditlondon. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Draft:Arielle Kayabaga, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GPL93 (talk) 01:56, 4 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

(talk) I'm afraid I don't understand the issue here. Arielle Kayabaga is our city Councillor. There are many articles on politicians and I used a template from another politician so that I would be using what is apparently an acceptable format. Arielle does not work for me nor has she paid me to write this article. Is she a friend? Well we've had lunch a few times but how else do I learn about a person in order to write an article? I learned about her early life through these discussions. I linked to articles/ web pages in order to back up my comments but I didn't link to my own pages. With regards to complying with policies, I have in fact read through stuff and the more I read the less I feel I can publish just about anything without breaking some rule. There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. There is already a username "Ken Davison" registered, you will need to choose something else. You may just remove "KenDavison" and replace it with your new choice. 331dot (talk) 23:33, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I did a username search here and it apparently isn't in use. I did a search before too. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=username+search&title=Special%3ASearch&go=Go&ns0=1 and also here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/KenDavison Meditlondon (talk) 01:58, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

It is true that "KenDavison" is not in use, but because "Ken Davison" is in use, (note the spacing) the system will not allow me to change the name as the two names are similar. 331dot (talk) 09:15, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ok, Changed to KenDavison3 Meditlondon (talk) 12:56, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Okay, that worked. I have changed your username from Meditlondon, and someone else will review your request. 331dot (talk) 13:03, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for helping with this. I wish HickoryOughtShirt?4 had tried to help me instead of just locking my account and deleting my page. KenDavison3 (talk) 13:08, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi KenDavison3. It sounds like you're pretty frustrated, which I completely understand. Wikipedia can be a frustrating place because we have a lot of rules and bureaucracy to balance article quality and reliability with our open editing philosophy. If you'd like more information about some of the policies we have, this page has a lot of links to information, and once you're unblocked you'll also have access to the Teahouse, where you can ask questions and receive helpful responses from experienced editors.
In the meantime, if you agree (this will be a binding agreement) not to make edits to articles that relate to your company in any way, and can describe the kinds of edits you'll make to other articles, you'll have a good chance of being unblocked now. Let me know, and reach out if I can be of any additional help. If you'd like to withdraw your request, please also say so; we will deem this unblock request closed in a week or two without additional information. Best, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 20:33, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Even this is confusing :-) I filled in an appeal and stated that I won't mention my company and I agreed to not make edits related to my company. I would still like to work on our City Councillors page that I have in draft. I am also interested in scouting, Canadian politics, old air cooled VWs and modernizing old cars with electronic fuel injection. Thanks for the help KenDavison3 (talk) 21:44, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I must say this is a frustrating experience. My first article about our city councilor was deleted because I copied information from her website. I am now writing if from scratch but apparently making links is spam yet I'm supposed to backup my statements. Very frustrating. There are many articles about politicians. I didn't have a user page for years but a message popped up about 'meditlondon not having a page' so I created one and talked about myself as instructed to. I am a self employed computer technician, politically active, Ontario Commissioner for BPSA and many other things. I am not being paid for this article or any other edits. 13:33, 15 March 2020 (UTC) Meditlondon (talk) 18:08, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Arielle Kayabaga

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Arielle Kayabaga, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Draft:Arielle Kayabaga

edit

You made a big deal out of getting the draft restored. I did it as a matter of urgency and you haven't touched it. This is just to let you know that I'll delete it again if you haven't made any effort to improve it within the next 48 hours. Deb (talk) 08:22, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I give up. I have more to do in my life than this. What a frustrating experience. Instead of support and mentorship it's deletion, deletion, deletion. I can't even figure out how to delete my own draft.

KenDavison3 (talk) 00:18, 25 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Well, there you are. I go the extra mile for you and you can't be bothered. What a waste of my time. Deb (talk) 08:52, 25 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Arielle Kayabaga

edit

Hello Ken! I received your email, and thanks for reaching out.

First of all, I haven't created articles about city councillors, but I have edited some over the years. Second, I'm not an administrator on Wikipedia, so I haven't got powers that an admin would have. That having been said; I did see the article and saw that it got "speedied", so I'm glad to see that it was returned to Draft. It doesn't appear to have a 48-hour time limit as far as I can tell.

On a quick read, it looks like a resume, which is not what Wikipedia wants. Compare Draft:Arielle Kayabaga to the article for mayor Ed Holder, as an example. Wikipedia expects articles about people who meet the Notability policies, which needs to be demonstrated by coverage of the subject in Reliable sources, and that's where I see the article about Arielle is lacking. She definitely does not meet the notability policy for politicians, being a councillor in a non-major city. The policy actually says, "Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage. Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the general notability guideline." Note that none of the other London city councillors have articles.

The London Free Press should have some useable content about Ms. Kayabaga, I would expect.

I will add that I live in a town between Barrie and Toronto, and I've never heard of her. Given Ms. Kayabaga's history, she might qualify under the general notability guideline, but several references about her have to be found and included in her article.

Feel free to use my user talk page to communicate if you wish, or we can carry on here (which might be better). Regards, PKT(alk) 17:47, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for getting back to me. I guess there are 1 or 2 reasonable people on wikipedia. I've given up. I don't have time to update it in the next what is now 24hrs along with the further research and reading all of the guidelines. What frustrating experience the whole wiki thing has been for me. Anyways, thanks.
My pleasure. The vast majority of us are reasonable, but we have standards we do our best to abide by. I'm still not sure about the short time limit, so you might have time to find references that could help. Cheers, PKT(alk) 01:26, 25 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
