Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the external links you added to the page Chilorio do not comply with our guidelines for external links. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. RJASE1 Talk 18:33, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

RESPONSE: Well, I am trying to contibute to wikipedia and enhance the user experience by providing information. If you are going to state something doesn't comply, please state what exactly it does not comply with. I don't feel that anything I added to the page did not comply with wikipedia standards. And also, how do I cite a source if that source is myself? Trying to contibute to wikipedia is little complicated at first, trying to learn everything so why not try being positive about something before dropping by to add vague negative comments. Thanks. Recipes

edit
May I ask you to have a look at {{cookbook}} (see also box on the right), that would be a valid link. Other external links are often not necessary, see WP:EL, WP:NOT#REPOSITORY, WP:SPAM, and WP:COI. Thank you. --Dirk Beetstra T C 23:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dirk. As a cook, I prefer to view as many recipes as possible for the same item before I decide which one to try. I think the wiki cookbooks are a great idea, but they offer only one recipe. I prefer (as well as many other cooks/chefs that I know) to be able to read about the history of a dish and then have several different recipe options. What do you suggest to accomplish that? Thanks.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mexicanfood (talkcontribs)

In that case I suggest a {{dmoz}} entry (see WP:EL). Please do not add links to mexicanfood and a large set of external links is not an option, per WP:NOT#REPOSITORY. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:44, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have not added a large set of external links... I added one while I also added to and re-worked the article to make it more reader friendly. I am following the directions in all of the "reading material" you suggested. It perfectly acceptable to add links if it is something that is not available within the article. It is ridiculous that you have labeled me a spammer. Thanks for the warm welcome!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mexicanfood (talkcontribs)

I am sorry, but I am not the only one that has reverted links to mexicanfood.about.com (you added a couple today), these links do not comply with WP:EL and the lists of recipes do not comply with WP:NOT#REPOSITORY. I have given you two options, which would comply better with the policies and guidelines, and I am happy that you add contents to the articles. It would be great if you would share the recipes on cookbook and create links from 'here' to 'there' (I am not sure about the external link policies there, you might want to have a look if it is allowed to have a list of recipes there). Hope this helps. --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:28, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

FYI, I replied to your post on my talk page here. RJASE1 Talk 21:38, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Guacamole. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Mexicanfood.about.com

edit

I just removed the last link to this site. Just to reiterate what RJASE1 said, the site has unacceptable levels of advertising and does not meet our guidelines on external links. Can I ask whether you have any personal connection to that site? I'm sure that there are many alternative sites where you can find advertising free links to add to articles. Whatever

edit

This is way too much trouble. At this time I will not be contributing any more to the site by updating or creating new articles. Wikipedia is losing a valuable resource because you all take yourselves way too seriously. Mexicanfood 20:08, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Enchilada. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. "Objectionable Amounts of Advertising"

edit

Yes, rule number 5 does state "Objectionable Amounts of Advertising" but I don't feel that the site has any more advertising than any other site. "Objectionable Amounts of Advertising" might be your opinion, but until there is a hard and fast example or list of what constitutes "Objectionable Amounts of Advertising" what do you base your decisions on? Your own opinion? Last time I checked, your opinion is merely that- an OPINION... so please stop suggesting that adding a few recipes by way of external links is some how spamming your precious Wikipedia. Mexicanfood 03:31, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's a judgement thing and you are welcome to seek a third opinion or ask at the guideline page for another view. You can also use the talk pages of the articles for gathering consensus. What you shoudn't do is come to my talk page and post an agressive message because that's only going to create a dispute where none is needed. Just for the record I only reviewed and deleted one link. Finally, you never answered my question - do you have any kind of connection to the website you keep plugging? Your user name and the name of the site you have been adding are mightly similar. If you have a conflict of interest its not appropriate for you to be adding these links. --Spartaz Humbug! 09:55, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
