Hi, just thought I'd let you know that all commons images, like Image:2006 Honda Civic 5-door.jpg, may also be used at en.wikipedia without having to re-upload them, such as you did to Image:2006 Honda Civic 5-Door.jpg. Take care, and welcome to Wikipedia! ˉˉanetode╦╩ 12:46, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Japanese and Chinese car portals

edit

Hi Michistrasse, is it really necessary to have a whole Portal for Japanese cars and Chinese cars? There is already a Japanese car WikiProject. A WikiProject is much more suited to this type of subject, not a Portal...a Portal is for topics that are far more wide-ranging, I thought. Adam Bishop 16:59, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd agree with User:Adam Bishop. What you're suggesting a portal be used for is a purpose already served by Categories. Someone looking for the links you've included at Portal:Japanese cars and the fake "template" for Japanese cars (see Mitsubishi Motors et al) can already be found at Category:Motor vehicle manufacturers of Japan. You seem to be duplicating what's already there to me.
By the way, the page at Portal:Japanese cars is being rendered very badly by non-IE browsers (e.g. Mozilla Firefox and Opera). --DeLarge 17:36, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

-But Japanese Cars are a very big subject! There are hundreds of models across multiple continents, plus what about old cars? A project is suited for keeping a group of articles on the same topic clean, up to date and standardized, but a portal is more about organizing information into a central hub, so that people can easily find pages related to each other. Most people who are just doing research don't bother to see a project, they would rather see a portal. I think a WikiProject and a portal are complimentary to each other, the Project edits the articles, and the portal organises them for the public. Categories are more vague, they give a list of things on the same topic, whereas a portal gives other information(highlights, etc.) and is more of a general summary of a topic. You wouldn't delete the Japan Portal because there is a Category:Japan, would you? A category is just a list of links, with maybe a short summary. A portal is much more than that, its a page on an entire subject, with links included. Michistrasse

Yes but a WikiProject can deal with very large subjects. The subject is still very specific and is not suitable for a Portal. Adam Bishop 14:22, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

If its so specific, than why would a WikiProject do, since its for very large subjects? What are these invisible guidelines that say that its not suitable for a portal? I can see your point for the Chinese portal, but Japanese cars, though specific, is a big subject, and much less specific than say, Toyota. Maybe its not a mega portal, but whats wrong with having a main page for a subject. A WikiProject just wont do, because as I said before, its more for making standards and keeping the articles clean. If you go to an office building, they lead you into a nice, organised lobby where they tell you where to go, not a janitor's closet. But, without a Janitors closet, it would be quite messy. Both are quite neccesary. The portal should be for public use, and the Project for Private (as in members) use, to help keep what the public sees in control. Michistrasse

Daihatsu vehicles

edit

You created a fake "template" at the bottom of thirteen articles relating to Daihatsu vehicles. Unfortunatelythis is not how templates work. Please delete the table you added and replace it with {{Daihatsu}}, which I have created for you. I've already repaired the Daihatsu Applause article, with the effect that the small [edit] link in the table is now functional (as it now directs to an actual template). The remaining twelve I'll leave to you. --DeLarge 15:17, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I didn't know such a template could be "fake", all I did was copy the mitsubishi one, and use it for a Daihatsu one. I will implement yours right away.

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:C-Crosser 07.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 18:55, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikiproject Automobiles Notification

edit

Hi Michistrasse, you were on the list of members at WikiProject Automobiles and we are introducing a new way of listing members, as the old list was becoming too long. Our new method involves having all of our members in a category.

To add yourself to the category just add the userbox to your user page by putting {{Wiki Auto Project}} where you want the userbox. Alternatively if you don't like the userbox you can add [[Category:WikiProject Automobiles members|Michistrasse]] to your userpage.

If you no longer wish to be a member of the project, simply don't add the userbox or category, there's no pressure. Thanks for your time, James086Talk | Contribs 04:12, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:C-Crosser 07.JPG

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:C-Crosser 07.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 02:27, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
