Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Microwaved Berries, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm Mathglot and I've volunteered to be your Wikipedia mentor. I'm here for you whenever you need help with Wikipedia. It's great to have you on board to help create this online encyclopedia.

See your homepage for a brief tutorial. Here are a few links you might find helpful:
Need some ideas about what kind of things need doing? Try the "Suggested edits" module top left on your homepage, or the Task Center.
Help is available: as your Mentor, you can always find me listed in the "Get editing help" module bottom right on your homepage; there are also additional help links there. You can also ask me questions directly on my talk page, or try the Wikipedia:Teahouse to get help designed especially for new users from a team of experienced volunteers. So go ahead and ask questions — we’re here to help!
Once again, welcome to Wikipedia! Mathglot (talk) 06:12, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! Also i already known this from Fandom by the way, i can copyedit sometimes, but also i'm a vandalism reverter! so i'll go on recent changes and see if the user is doing something wrong, then i'll revert it and contact the administrators! (if they only engage in edit wars) Microwaved Berries (talk) 09:10, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- You're welcome. You mean, you're a vandalism reverter under a different registered account before this one? If so, you need to pick one, and just use that one (and write on the user page of the other one that it is an abandoned alternative account; you can use template {{Abandoned account}} if you want, or just your own words). Also, there are some userboxes for vandal fighters, if you are into that (like these). Mathglot (talk) 18:05, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
About your question about becoming an administrator
[edit]Microwaved Berries, you posed this question at my Talk page, and I wanted to respond here:
- Copy of discussion originally at User talk:Mathglot#Hello Mathglot!.
You are not eligible to apply for admin rights, but before we get to the details, what is it that you think admins do, and why do you want to become one? Mathglot (talk) 09:21, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- I'd like to help fight vandalism and harassment, but I'd also like to try and help the recent problem of negativity and venting. Generally, I think posts where users are venting should be deleted. When it comes to venting, it tends to spread and cause a lot of commotion around on Wikipedia depending on the severity of the issue. If the user does this enough times, for their own good, I believe they should be blocked for a short amount of time. This is something stated within the rules already. I could absolutely help this issue as an administrator, and I'd be willing to. I like to believe I'm quite strong when it comes to situations like this and can reliably handle it.
- Also, when it comes to trolls, vandalisers and harassers, I'm quite active on Wikipedia - I believe I'd be able to handle situations with trolls effectively and quickly. Since preservation has become an issue on Wikipedia recently, I'd like to believe I have a good enough judgement on what should and shouldn't be preserved, i.e. harmful templates, posts, or other content, I had already handled things like this, so I have decent experience in this area.
- A very prevalent issue on the wiki that's been around for a while is the lack of communication between ordinary users as well. I think that as an administrator, with my activity, I'd be there for anybody who needs support with a certain issue. I like to view myself as approachable and unbiased, willing to help anybody. I'm aware that I have a sort of satire and sarcastic attitude all around, but I believe I can genuinely be helpful and understanding when it comes to it. Likewise, if anyone has an issue with me, I'd be willing to sort it out and listen to criticism. If other users have an issue, too, I'd be there to help them as well. I want to be fair and approachable to all as an administrator.
- As an administrator, I think I will have to strictly enforce these rules to create a better environment all around. I don't mean to be particularly rash with my treatment, but I think we do need more enforcement. Telling people not to do things, temporarily preventing behaviour - it only works for so long. Punishment is going to have to be more common, and I think the current warn & block system will have to be enforced a lot more. A lot of users have more than three warnings and have still gotten off scot-free.
- I think I would be a good candidate for an administrator because I believe I am reputable, can deal with trolls, vandalisers, harassment across the board, and I think I could be approachable to users. That being said, we're gonna need stricter enforcement.
- This took long to make. Although, thank you for reading! -- I want more berries in my mouth! (talk) 21:16, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the detailed message. Before we get into the admin stuff, though, one thing struck me. You said,
Also, when it comes to trolls, vandalisers and harassers, I'm quite active on Wikipedia...
- Can you give me several examples? I looked at your contributions, and saw nothing like that; only edits to your user page, and here on your Talk page. Where else were you active on Wikipedia? Do you use another username
mfor your vandal-fighting activity, because I don't see any of that. Mathglot (talk) 21:26, 5 January 2026 (UTC)- It's only the beginning, but i'm trying to do my best, and yes, i have usernamem for my vandal-fighting activity but i don't remember my username. -- I want more berries in my mouth! (talk) 21:29, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- It's okay if you don't remember it; in fact, it's better that way. Most of the time, users are supposed to stick to just one username, although there are exceptions. If you ever do remember what it was, you should read WP:Username policy#Using multiple accounts, and follow the instructions there about disclosing your alternative account. If you don't log on there anymore, and never use it again, that's probably the best outcome. You can do your vandal-fighting activity from this account.
- By the way, you forgot to respond to my first question, namely: "What is it that you think admins do?" Mathglot (talk) 03:48, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, i forgot about this but anyways, i'll give explanations and examples of what an administrator can do in my opinion.
- -
- Core Technical Tools:
- -
- Block/Unblock: Temporarily or permanently ban users, IP addresses, or IP ranges from editing.
- Protect/Unprotect Pages: Restrict editing, moving, or file uploads on specific pages (e.g., during edit wars).
- Delete/Restore: Remove articles and files from public view, and restore them if needed.
- User Rights Management: Grant or revoke specific permissions (like rollback or template editor) to other users.
- Edit/View: Edit fully protected pages and view deleted content/logs.
- -
- Key Responsibilities & Actions:
- -
- Vandalism Control: Quickly revert vandalism, block repeat offenders, and clean up spam.
- Dispute Resolution: Moderate discussions, close deletion/move debates, and provide authoritative judgment on complex issues.
- Maintenance: Work on backlogs, handle copyright issues, and manage technical tasks.
- Guidance: Act as experienced editors, leading by example and helping newer users, but without special voting power.
- -
- Important Considerations:
- -
- Policy-Bound: All actions must follow established Wikipedia policies and community consensus.
- Accountability: Administrators are accountable to the community and must justify their actions.
- Volunteer Role: They remain volunteers, with their satisfaction coming from helping the project, not from authority.
- So this is all the examples of what an administrator can do. -- I want more berries in my mouth! (talk) 19:11, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- That certainly demonstrates your ability to look stuff up, and that is a great start and an important skill to have at Wikipedia. Now, can you look up the minimum requirements for becoming an admin? Mathglot (talk) 23:30, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- The formal minimum is an extended-confirmed account (30 days old, 500 edits) but in practice, the community expects an experience (often 10,000+ edits, a year of good behavior), proven good judgment, deep policy knowledge, content creation such as like Featured Articles, and a clear need for admin tools such as handling vandalism/deletions. -- I want more berries in my mouth! (talk) 00:11, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- How do you think you match up to those expectations? --Hammersoft (talk) 21:16, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- As an administrator, I think I believe I match up to expectations in several ways. I have a strong understanding of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, which helps in making fair and informed decisions. I prioritize neutrality and aim to support a collaborative environment, ensuring discussions remain constructive. Additionally, I'm responsive to the community's needs and open to feedback, always looking for ways to improve. Overall, I see this role as a responsibility to foster quality and fairness on the platform. -- I want more berries in my mouth! (talk) 21:23, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Ok, and how do you feel your use of AI to write responses to such questions sets you up to be a quality administrator? --Hammersoft (talk) 21:25, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oh sorry, If you want me to write without AI, so here is:
- From my experience as an administrator, I believe I meet many of the criteria used to evaluate administrators. I am familiar with the policies, guidelines and procedures of Wikipedia, which enables me to make appropriate and unbiased decisions in my role. I try to be neutral in my day-to-day work as an administrator and I value creating an atmosphere of cooperation; I attempt to encourage constructive discourse whenever possible. I have always tried to be receptive to the needs of the Wikipedia community and to consider suggestions for improving my work. My view is that the responsibility of an administrator is to promote quality and equity on the Wikipedia platform.
- And also, i won't forget that the use of AI to write responses seems not allowed on Wikipedia. according to Wikipedia:Artificial intelligence i think, but I won't do any AI responses this time.
- Detect if it's still AI or not. -- I want more berries in my mouth! (talk) 21:41, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- From your experience as an administrator? You have no experience as an administrator. Look, at this point you are distinctly unqualified to be an administrator. You are likely years and thousands of edits away from anyone seriously considering you as an administrator candidate. I mean no disrespect. It's just that at this point you have absolutely 0% chance of being an administrator. Using AI to craft your responses doesn't make it better. In fact, it calls your judgment on these points into question. If you ever...ever...want to be an administrator, I strongly urge you to drop the LLM tools and back away from them. Nobody wants to talk to a machine. We want to talk to you, even more so if you have any desire to be an administrator. This isn't a game for people to detect whether you're using AI or not. --Hammersoft (talk) 21:55, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- I already dropped LLM tools, and also, i already know that using AI to craft my responses doesn't look better, but by the time, i won't use AI tools, and i'll be better without the help of AI, now you understand? -- I want more berries in my mouth! (talk) 22:05, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- No, I don't. I don't understand why you would want me to try to detect if it's still AI or not. Just don't. This isn't a game. I'm dropping this conversation now unless you have serious questions. I'll remind you that you are years and thousands of edits away from being an administrator. Go forth and be productive (just without AI/LLMs). Good day. --Hammersoft (talk) 22:12, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Here is my last question
- You said, "you are years and thousands of edits away from being an administrator." so I'll be there on Wikipedia for a while until I become an administrator? That's all this is? -- I want more berries in my mouth! (talk) 22:17, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship, Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, Wikipedia:Miniguide to requests for adminship. --Hammersoft (talk) 22:20, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Many thousands of edits, and, I would also guess, many years of maturing into a rounded, self-aware, and self-critical person able to understand not only Wikipedia policies and guidelines but also able to evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses and how those play into the requirements and possibilities of adminship. Good luck! Mathglot (talk) 23:20, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
