Women in Red

edit

Hi there, Minuette Macon. I see you are a completely new contributor to Wikipedia. I recommend you learn a bit more about editing at The Wikipedia Adventure. You can use our Redlists to find women in various areas of interest who are not yet covered on the English version of the encyclopaedia. Once you feel ready to create your own biographies, you might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:15, 26 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.

If you would like to help us improve this process, please consider leaving us some feedback.

Thanks again, and happy editing!

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

edit
  Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

Draft:Catherine M. Cahill

edit

Hi--no doubt you saw my other edits on this and on Draft:Alison Barth; I think most of those tags can be dealt with easily, with tweaks and explanations. The list of published articles, that's another matter; they were just restored by an IP from, well, the institution, and that's just not good article content. Books, with published reviews, of course, but a list of articles just turns the article into a resume. I hope this is a prompt for your students to hit JSTOR etc. to find discussions of the work of these scientists, who at first glance seem to pass GNG and/or NPROF--but the articles need secondary sources. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 15:16, 29 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thanks-it's hard for them to grasp that scientific publications are NOT sources. I asked them to go back, and add more independent sources, thank you for flagging Minuette Macon (talk) 15:20, 29 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Tamara Franklin, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.

Since you have made at least 10 edits over more than four days, you can now create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for creation if you prefer.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation.

Draft:Sonia Wachstein

edit

I've tried to improve the article Draft:Sonia Wachstein diving into JSTOR and Oxford to find secondary sources to support notability. Note it's very difficult to do this for women born before 1950 and adding the tag "WikiProject Women's History" (replace the "" with {{ }} ) to the Draft Talk section can help alert reviewers to this issue. I'm not a reviewer but I'm hoping Draft:Sonia Wachstein will make it into the English Wikipedia mainspace given the strong primary sources as well as availability of some secondary sources. I'll keep an eye on this article and am happy to help discuss with whoever does review it, hopefully someone familiar with Gender bias on Wikipedia issues.

I'm guessing the course Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/University_of_Virginia/Hidden_Figures-Neuroscience_through_Diversity_(Spring_2024) is over for the semester - I think it's great that you're encouraging students to create and edit Wikipedia articles and hopefully it's been a positive experience overall. thank you! Yes, after the class is over, I try to edit and resubmit whenever I can (lately, not a lot of time). The class is supposed to introduce them to Wikipedia editing so they can do it AFTER the class ends, but the second they get the grade, they forget about everything unfortunately. All of the first drafts are extremely subjective and riddled with poor or no citations-students nowadays don't really know how to use Google. Only 1 or 2 entries will not get flagged for overkill or plagiarism or something else, and over 20 gets submitted through the class within one week. I do my best to edit the final version so they are at least readable, but I do miss a lot too. After the class ends, I try to keep the drafts up to date, especially with awards or similar. It's just such a shame that students simply don't come back to this Minuette Macon (talk) 12:49, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
