Geoffrey Hayes death date debate

edit

His obituary in the Guardian states that he died 30 September. Since they're both considered "reliable" sources, I think it would be best to cross-reference. Samuel J Walker (talk) 14:02, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@User talk:Samuel J Walker Yes, but BBC News says he died on 1 October 2018. They posted his death the day that he died. Let's be friends! I can help you! :) MissMinecraft (talk) 14:05, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@User talk:Samuel J Walker I'm not an admin (yet), but I know my stuff! I watched his death on the news on 1 October 2018. MissMinecraft (talk) 14:08, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

When his death is announced doesn't necessarily reflect the date he died. For example, Andrew Sachs' death was announced on 1 December 2016 but he actually died on 23 November 2016. That BBC article doesn't state when he died. It quotes the statement from his manager which also doesn't state when he died. The only source I can find with a date of death is the Guardian obit I mentioned. Samuel J Walker (tail) 14:15, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@User talk:Samuel J Walker May well do, but it said his death the same day as the French singer, Charles Aznavour on 1 October 2018. It would come as breaking news if he died that day, but it came as breaking news on 1 October 2018. Plus, thanks for your edits about Geoffrey's wife. It should be from 1987-2018 though. Plus, you need to create your user page. ;)MissMinecraft (talk) 14:19, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

It depends on when his death is announced. Some deaths are not announced on the same date as they occur, for many reasons. If the statement had mentioned that he died "today" (1 October), then 1 October can be listed. But the statement doesn't mention that, it only states that he died. If he died late on 30 September, then it may not be able to be announced until the morning. His death was announced on 1 October but that doesn't necessarily mean he died on 1 October, whereas those of Charles Aznavour actually state when he died. @User talk:Samuel J Walker Still, it's a bit silly that it came as breaking news on 1 October. It should be BREAKING NEWS the same day that he died. Give me the link address about 30 September 2018, it still could be false. MissMinecraft (talk) 14:32, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Here it is: http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2018/oct/01/geoffrey-hayes-rainbow-obituary

@User talk:Samuel J Walker As I an reading this, this website seems to be the only one mentioning that he died that day. Chances are, it could be a mistake. Every other site says he died on 1 October 2018. So many other users here says that he died in October. They have more experience here than you do, they'll go for the sites that says the exact death date, so for me, he died in October. It even says that he died that day on 2018 celeb deaths in October. Do u have any other sources? He definitely died on 1 October 2018 at 12:43 pm. MissMinecraft (talk) 14:40, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

I can't find any others with 30 September, but I also can't find any that specifically say he died on 1 October. All the ones I can find are printed 1 October and announce his death but they only quote the statement from his manager which doesn't give a date of death. Where are the sources you found that state his death date as being 1 October? Regarding 12:43 as a time of death, that was when his death was announced publicly, not necessarily the time or date he died. Samuel J Walker (talk) 14:49, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@User talk:Samuel J Walker A friend of mine says that he died on 1 October 2018. He's related. He would have known when his grandad died. MissMinecraft (talk) 14:56, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Could you explain this comment please? —C.Fred (talk) 18:52, 3 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@User talk:C.Fred This user has been vandalizing the page Geoffrey Hayes. I warned him and he got cheeky, so I said that he would be blocked indefinitely. I don't trust him. He's just gonna spam and vandalize Wikipedia even more when he finally gets unblocked. Could you block the user User:Farolif indefinitely? Thanks! MissMinecraft (talk) 10:17, 4 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
