Notability issues

Your articles will be deleted unless you can include the required evidence of notability in them. See wp:bio which explains that "A person is notable if he or she has been the subject of secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject." If your subjects are notable, you need to include references to those secondary sources. Please work on this. If you just remove the proposed deletion tags, it will be more work for both of us, but the articles will still be deleted unless you include in them the require references.

It also appears from your user name that you may be too close to the subjects and have a conflict of interest (see WP:COI). Dicklyon 05:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

The image is nice evidence of the invention, and would be great to have in the article, assuming you give the appropriate license. But it is not evidence of notability. Notability, for wikipedia purposes, is defined very simply, and just means that someone else (reliable and independent) has already written about him. If you can find a book or magazine to reference, that might do it. Otherwise, sorry, it's not going to fly. Dicklyon 06:50, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

When I am doing original research, and I come across patent information in the form of original patients (documents) issued by the United States Government and the Dominion of Canada and documentation of corporations in form of advertisements circa 1920’s doesn’t that constitute documented evidence. I moved your misplaced comment back here to keep the discussion together; you can "sign" by putting four tildes at the end (it will expand into a standard linked and dated signature). As to the question, yes, that's good documented evidence of invention; but no, it is not the case that these patent documents and advertisements are evidence of notability according to the wikipedia policies. Did you read that page? What you've got fits nicely under WP:OR, which is specifically NOT what wikipedia wants. Dicklyon 07:19, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

In the course of doing original research I come across reference facts. Reference facts are things I find in dictionaries, encyclopedias, library of congress catalogs/indexes, and the United States Patent office. This is not original research since it is referenced material. This referenced material usually has corresponding numerical reference such as patent numbers, file numbers, etc. The referenced material is usually cross referenced by a numerical sequence and date. This means that anyone with the patent number and date of the patent can look it up – reference material is not original research. I have original copies of patents; this is the copy given to the original patent holder. I can cross-reference these copies with the US patent office and the Dominion of Canada (Canada) because they are numbered and dated. This tells me who invented something or anything and when they invented it. I can cross check this information with biographies and obituaries and find more information on the individual inventor. Biographies and obituaries are usually found in library and newspaper reference sections and are cross referenced by date of birth, date of death, and last name – this is all reference material and isn’t original research. The only thing that may be original is that this information has never been placed on the internet.

Saying that this is original research is like saying that because you looked up the word apple in the OED you are doing original research on agriculture. Mjmcghee

If you'll read and understand the referenced pages, you might be able to make a lasting contribution on wikipedia, instead of just being frustrated when all your work goes away, which is looking increasingly likely as you're not dealing with the issue. I have uploaded some of the patent information and photos. Also there There are several public records referring to McGhee and an article in the Los Angeles Times about his son George L. McGhee dated March 17, 1942 front page above the fold in which he (James William McGhee) is referred to as an interior design specialist. The article is entitled 10,000 Navy Recruit since Pearl Harbor.

Thank you for the reference to wp:bio I think James William McGhee fits the criteria nicely.

Good. Then if he satisfies "A person is notable if he or she has been the subject of secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject," all you have to do is add references to those sources, and all is good. Dicklyon 14:54, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

I think that in general James William McGhee has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record (found in the US and Canadian Patent Office) in his specific field (drapery hardware). Even some of the people that want this article deleted have admitted they have used his invention. James William McGhee was a creative professional that we can see through his patents originated a significantly new concept and technique for hanging draperies.Mjmcghee 05:50, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

MJ, there is no requirement that the evidence of notability be on-line. Just put references to sources about your subjects into the articles; that's the "evidence of notability" that we need to have in the article, and to make the information "verifiable". Dicklyon 04:59, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I hope everyone has had a chance to see the LA Times article I uploaded. I have trouble with the scanner, I am visually impaired and my scanner is used for reading and translating print to audible material.

Because I am visually impaired I can’t read all of the messages and rely on others to read things like tags, my assistant my have removed tags on articles I am attempting to source for you. This is all happening in the middle of finals so I don’t have the time to devote to these articles Mjmcghee

It's been a long time since I tried to get you to come up with some sources as evidence of notability for your family members. The movie star Maria Hart is sort of OK, as is the family therapist George L. McGhee, since they've at least been in a few newspaper articles; but the other two, mentioned above, have not one shred of evidence that anything was ever written about them in a newspaper, magazine, book, or other independent reliable source.
