Biographies

Please read Wikipedia's notability guideline at WP:BIO. Your article failed to explain what made him notable. Just being a city administrator isn't a real claim of notability. Corvus cornixtalk 20:59, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The afd will run for five days, let's see what other people have to say. Corvus cornixtalk 22:15, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Besides the fact that there are few references, there's nothing in the article which says what makes him notable. Corvus cornixtalk 22:27, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're quite right, I'm not an administrator. That's why I did the afd nomination. It's up to consensus of the community whether or not he's notable. Corvus cornixtalk 22:28, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

August 2008

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Pengiran Omar. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. Road Wizard (talk) 00:26, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I am not involved in the discussion about whether to delete the article you created, I am just the person that restored the afd banner to the article. Removing the afd banner will not prevent deletion, as the discussion on whether to delete the article will continue at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pengiran Omar even if the banner is missing. To prevent the article from being deleted you need to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pengiran Omar and resolve the concerns of the other editors. However, before you get to that stage you should read the Help, my article got nominated for deletion! page to understand the basics of the Articles for Deletion process. If you have any further questions feel free to ask them here or on my talk page. Regards. Road Wizard (talk) 16:40, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi again. The other editor does not need to respond. In an "Articles for Deletion" discussion each editor makes a case for why they think the article should be kept or deleted. They can discuss their views with each other if they want to, but there is no obligation for them to do so. After a period of time an administrator or an experienced editor will read the comments and arguments and decide whether the delete or keep arguments are stronger. If keep wins then the afd banner is removed from the article; if delete wins then the article is deleted.
Looking at the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pengiran Omar, you have said "I agree for you to delete the article". Once the closing administrator reads that, they will immediately settle for delete without considering the other arguments. If the only significant contributor agrees that the article should be deleted then there is very little left to consider.
If you now wish to withdraw your comment, just add <strike> at the start of the comment and </strike> at the end. You can then continue to argue for retaining the article if that is what you want. The main problem with the article that the other editor has pointed out is that Pengiran Omar does not appear to be notable. A sailor and administrator would not normally qualify as interesting enough for an article. What has Pengiran Omar done that makes him worthy of an article? That is the argument that you need to make. Regards. Road Wizard (talk) 00:41, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Guestbooks

Wikipedia is not a social networking site, it is an encyclopedia. Guestbooks are not permitted here. Thank you. Exploding Boy (talk) 01:49, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Again, Wikipedia is not a place for guestbooks. This is an encyclopedia, not a social networking site. Also, users may not sign articles they create, even on the article talk page. Please review our policies as Wikipedia: User page and Wikipedia:Article. Exploding Boy (talk) 02:02, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
For a third time: Wikipedia is not a social-networking site. If you want a place to set up guest-books and autograph books, try Facebook or Myspace. Wikipedia is a collaborative effort to build an encyclopedia, and that is all it is. Even on user pages, "you should avoid substantial content... that is unrelated to Wikipedia." - see WP:UP. Wara's Autograph Book

A tag has been placed on Wara's Autograph Book, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JohnCD (talk) 11:31, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your autograph book

I have moved your autograph book into your user space at User:Mohd wara/Wara's Autograph Book, as it is not appropriate for an encyclopedia article. If look at the other autograph books in category:Wikipedian autograph pages, you will see that they are all in user space. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 13:12, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sekolah Menengah Pengiran Omar

Hello Mohd Wara,

Firstly I would like to say all the best to you in developing the wikipedia article for this school. By the way, just thought of telling you that I graduated from this school too, a couple of years ago.

Secondly, I would like to inform you that you need to do referencing when you write facts in wikipedia. I will help you with that, but in the future, you must ascertain the sources of the information you written. E.g. the information about the rugby match can be obtained from Daily express online news. (One way would be do a google search and see whether you can find any newspaper articles or journal about it)

Good luck :) Danazach (talk) 16:49, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

By the way, on the topic of your article Pengiran Omar (currently under discussion for deletion), I do suspect that you are writing about two different person. 1. A figure who was born in 1850 and live in Lawas. His name was used to name our school 2. A district officer of Sipitang town after independence of Sabah (ie 1963 not 1957 as you written). I think he's the person who signed this ordinance (http://www.lawnet.sabah.gov.my/viewdoc.asp?id=bylaws&title=Local_Authority_By-Laws&document=sipitang/Sipitangdistrictcouncil(hotelsandlodginghouses)bylaws1966.htm). I don't think a person is fit to be an officer at the age of 103 (if he's in office in 1963).

However I might be wrong (because they always mistake the year of birth in the old days). I recommend you do more research in the town library just in case you might find any information that might be important and to show that he is "worthy to be noted".

Danazach (talk) 19:17, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't know whether this is going to be useful for you, but if you get your hands on a book entitle "A Gambling Style of Government: The Establishment of the Chartered Company's Rule in Sabah, 1878-1915" by Ian Black, it seems to have mentioned someone by the name Pengiran Omar Haji who was a notable chief in Sipitang. I had a snippet view from google book (as they don't give a whole view of the book), and you can have a look at it yourself at this http://books.google.com/books?q=Pengiran+Haji+Omar%2C+at+Sipitang+

Please note that CSD-A3, the "no content" criteria for speedy deletion, specifically excludes disambiguation pages. Just something to keep in mind if you're going to be patrolling new pages regularly. Mlaffs (talk) 17:25, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pengiran Omar

Hey there, Just thought you might find this useful. Came across this on the web http://zainulariff.blogspot.com/ apparently the man's ancestor is pengiran omar, and from the description it does sound like the one you're researching (egh born in 1850, live in Sipitang etc). but the full name is pengiran omar pengiran tunggal (i'm not sure whether pengiran tunggal is an actual name or 'nama panggilan')

On a different note, I had an opportunity to read the book that I recommended you to read..Apparently it's a brief history about this Sipitang chief, a Brunei Malay who is popular in Sipitang and Papar, by the name Pengiran Haji Omar. Apparently he's the first non European to be appointed as non-european assitant officers (or deputy assistant officer) during the British North Borneo reign, and he was stationed in Putatan in 1915. So I did a research on Putatan's district officers list and I found this http://www.sabah.gov.my/dkptn/Image/profaildaerah.htm. Someone by the name pengiran omar pg. salleh who was the district officer in 1914-1929

I'm not sure whether the two names above are the same person, or two unrelated people bearing the same name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danazach (talkcontribs) 17:00, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:SMK Pengiran Omar field.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:SMK Pengiran Omar field.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Meet-up: Editors from Malaysia

Hello! You might or might not have seen me around here as I've not been active in Wikipedia the past few months. Before leaving for NS, it was my intention to form a Malaysian user group. I'm still very much interested in forming the group. However, before forming the group, I would love to organize a meet-up between editors of the Malaysian editing community to test the waters and hear what you guys might have to say. To my knowledge, there has not been a Wikipedia meet-up in this country before. I don't mind organizing the meet-up but need to know if anyone is interested in joining the meet-up. So... please reply and let me know if you would be interested in joining a meet-up and your ideas/thoughts about a user group. Thank you.

Looking forward to hearing from you, Bejinhantalks 12:31, 15 December 2012 (UTC) (Message delivered by EdwardsBot (talk) 12:31, 15 December 2012 (UTC))Reply
