Years in Australian Television

Hi. Thanks for keeping an eye out on article quality and helping to keep the place picked up. :) I've deleted a number of the articles on years in Australian t.v. as lacking content when they contained only the template. When they contain more than the template, they do not really fit into any of the speedy criteria. "No context" is for articles that leave you scratching your head, unable to make out what they're talking about. "No content" is for articles consisting only of external links, category tags and "see also" sections, a rephrasing of the title, attempts to correspond with the person or group named by its title, chat-like comments, and/or images. Lists do not violate Wikipedia's policies, per se. See Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists) for more on how & when they are appropriate. If you think that these articles are inappropriate per that guideline, then you have the option to nominate them for deletion by one of the other processes, WP:PROD or WP:AfD. I've added a couple of tags to the specific article you noted, since it lacks sourcing and categories. As to the notability, lists can be contentious and confusing. I find AfD discussion about them somewhat unpredictable and can call to mind quickly the example of List of Indian women, which was deleted, and List of Iranian women, which was not, even though the articles were nearly identical in construction and were nominated within days of each other. --Moonriddengirl ^(talk) 19:06, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I think that Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood is notable. I have seen a good deal of references for it. However, it definitely needs improvement to make it more neutral. What breed is Bolt?

Hey there. I had to look up exactly what an Indian Spitz is, and while I admit that the Bolt character certainly could be one (both in look and in demeanor), there's still a citation problem. If you can provide verifiable proof that the artists who produced Bolt based him on an Indian Spitz, then it no longer is trivia; instead, it would belong in the article's "character design" section. The "holy grail" piece of proof would be an interview with the artists saying that they chose the Indian Spitz as the basis for Bolt because of its bonding with humans, which, as you probably know, is a key component to Bolt's story. This could be in a newspaper article, or even in the audio commentary on the DVD/BD. I'll listen to the commentary on my BD copy, and if I find it, I'll add it and find a way to cite it.

I'm not disagreeing with you; in fact, you've got me curious to see if that's what Disney actually did. That said, let's not add that back until we can find something that says that's what Bolt is. If you have any problems, ask on my talk page and I'll help however I can. Thanks!

I was looking at some of the other cited sources in the Bolt article, and ran across one that says that Bolt is an American White Shepherd. While there could be something to that, at the same time I'm still wondering if Bolt really is an Indian Spitz ... what makes me think about that is Bolt's size. A full-grown shepherd is a pretty large dog, and even a 5-year-old Bolt (as suggested in the opening sequences) is relatively small. The White Shepherd article was edited to mention that Bolt is one, but it too is uncited. Again, I'm for leaving things as they are until we get a better source (again, preferably from the artists themselves). Thanks for your help! --McDoobAU93 (talk) 16:33, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

The Indian Spitz is not an AKC-recognized breed, so they wouldn't have any information on them to provide to Disney. For what it's worth, the American White Shepherd isn't listed with AKC, either. Most likely, Bolt is just a nondescript white dog, not meant to be any particular breed. Although, I do admit his design and character traits do match up well to the Indian Spitz ... Can you help verify translations of articles from Spanish

Hello Monkeytheboy,

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Spanish to English Wikipedia?

This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Spanish article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Spanish, using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Spanish. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:

• Cadenus_and_Vanessa
• Stevia_cultivation_in_Paraguay

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Spanish article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)
