Not again
iBen, you deleted my 15th - 17th century years in Italy page. Why? Yes I know it was a bunch of red links (which would have become blue if you had given me the time) and I know it was only links and redirects but if you go on Years in France or Years in Ireland and many more, it's just the same. Could you please find a way of restoring that information?--Theologiae (talk) 09:02, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- I didn't delete it. Some admin did. See Wikipedia:Why was my page deleted?.--iBendiscuss 23:39, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
"Delete lousy articles"?
Hello again! I saw the above comment on your userpage and would like to offer a suggestion: try improving lousy articles instead of nominating them for deletion :). Many articles of the PJTF, for instance. Speaking of the PJTF, I thought a compromise would suffice for the task force page... check out the page and see what you think. Another task force member was not happy to see the big titles gone, so I re-added them. Also, I took away the green and tried to make it look more sparse and plain, but added the borders to try to help centralize the person's attention to the text. Happy new year! How do you quote books?

Cosmic Puffin
Hi IBen, I see our conversations regarding the Cosmic Puffin page have now been archived. I was wondering what you thought of the current version of the page. Do you think it is ready to share with the world again? I am really keen to get a link on the website and on the forum/myspace/facebook pages for folks to be able to add to it accordingly. Like I mentioned before, I have no intention of being the sole contributer to it! I have valued your input and advice on the page so far and regret not being able to get into the irc chat at the same time of day/night as you. I have left in the 'tags'(?) that were placed for things I had issues addressing and would welcome suggestions on how I can deal with those (please refer to our archived correspondance to see where I ran into problems). If you think that I have addressed them well enough, or clarified why they cannot be addressed, then please remove those 'tags'(?). regards Sideards (talk) 20:10, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Google Quick Search Box Info
Hey iben,
Thanks for the page on QSB (Google_Quick_Search_Box). Just had some basic comments for expanding it:
Operating System Compatibility - The iPhone version of QSB is based on the same code as Mac-QSB hence the comments in the source. The layer that underlies the two projects is called the Vermilion.framework (all files in Vermilion start with the HGS prefix). - QSB exists on Windows as well, with a different codebase. http://lifehacker.com/5159851/install-google-toolbar-6-get-quick-search-box. - The Android QSB UI is based directly on the Mac-QSB UI.
Google Desktop did not offer a plugin API.
There is an SDK to work with QSB, so yes... there is far more leeway to expand QSB.
Thanks again for the article.

- I noticed on your userpage you have a banner saying "Say yes to flagged revisions." What are flagged revisions?--iBendiscuss 03:02, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- I suppose a quick way to summarize it would be to say that Flagged Revisions is like semi-protection, except that non-autoconfirmed people's edits will be held for review rather than simply being denied the ability to edit the page. For more, read WP:FLR. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 03:22, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Ft_Lowell_Aspen_Lane.JPG
Thanks for uploading File:Ft_Lowell_Aspen_Lane.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 02:29, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Can you copypaste from copyright if you quote?
I was wondering iBen, if you have to quote a source, i.e. using the exact same words, can you copy and paste from it, even if it is copyright? Reply--Theologiae (talk) 15:29, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
- See WP:QUOTE - Brief quotations of copyrighted text may be used to illustrate a point, establish context, or attribute a point of view or idea. Copyrighted text must be attributed. If not used verbatim, any alterations must be clearly marked, i.e. [brackets] for added text, an ellipsis (...) for removed text, and emphasis noted after the quotation as "(emphasis added)" or "(emphasis in the original)". Extensive quotation of copyrighted text is prohibited. Does that help?-- iBendiscuss/contribsReplied here? 21:06, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, it does help. Thank you--Theologiae (talk) 09:23, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion methods
Vanezza had a speedy deletion tag on it. Why on earth did you feel it necessary to start an AfD discussion? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 03:56, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Before User:Vanezza put a speedy delteion tag on it, I marked it for AFD, not knowing about the subject. -- iBendiscuss/contribsReplied here? 22:46, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Kornizon had no deletion tag. You could have been bold and used {{db-hoax}}. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 05:22, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- I should have! I did not really know much about the subject. In the future, I'll be bold.-- iBendiscuss/contribsReplied here? 22:46, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Signature length
See my comments here and reduce your signature below 255 characters. –xenotalk 01:10, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- My edit to your signature subpage (which violates WP:SIG#NT, fwiw) was not vandalism, it was done to reduce your signature below 255 characters to comply with the guideline on signature length. Please amend your signature to be 255 characters or less or you may be blocked for disruptive editing. –xenotalk 23:10, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- My signature is under 255 characters! {{SUBST:User:iBen/beanbag}} See?-- iBendiscuss/contribs 23:12, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- (ignoring the fact that it is, now, only because I re-implemented my change to your sig) - your signature must be 255 characters or less after the subst expansion. And technically, you shouldn't really be subst'ing a subpage in the first place. –xenotalk 23:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- My signature is under 255 characters! {{SUBST:User:iBen/beanbag}} See?-- iBendiscuss/contribs 23:12, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- re [1] - I have no doubt that your actions here are conducted in good faith, that doesn't mean you can ignore WP:SIG#LENGTH. I see from the above that you have simply misunderstood what the length requirement means. Please ensure your expanded signature (as it appears in the wikitext after saving the page) is 255 characters or less in the future. Thanks, –xenotalk 23:21, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- What is wrong with having a few more letters?-- iBendiscuss/contribsReplied here? 23:20, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- It takes up too much room in the edit window, and frankly, the talkback preload is unnecessary. –xenotalk 23:21, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- What is wrong with having a few more letters?-- iBendiscuss/contribsReplied here? 23:20, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Here's a good solution! Why don't you help me with a better [shorter] signature? -- {{SUBST:User:iBen/lrythgyusjfks}} 23:22, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Isn't that what I tried to do by editing your signature subpage directly? I see you've instead ignored my advice and undid my suggested change again, so I've deleted your signature subpages per WP:SIG#NT. One suggestion would be to create a subpage User:Ben/tb that links to the preload - this would take up less characters than using a full url . –xenotalk 23:23, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Please stop templating me, I know the policies. If you have something to say, write it out. Your new signature is cute (if a bit pointy), but you might want to click "raw signature" so that it appears correctly. –xenotalk 23:28, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

is under 255 characters. You would just need to place a link at User talk:iBen/tb that linked the talkback preload. But imho, most regulars who are going to send you a talkback will probably just use something like WP:FRIENDLY to add it rather than a confusing preload. –xenotalk 23:34, 19 January 2010 (UTC)- Thanks!-- IBen (talk) 23:35, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of Barton Road Swing Bridge
IBen, I would like to ask you whether you could cancel your deletion plans for my article on the Barton Road Swing Bridge. It is unique in it's design and has also had an impact on the area's history and the daily lives of the working people there. I live in the area, as do most of my relatives and a lot of the people I know in life, and was looking up local landmarks on this site. I was mildly surprised to find that it was barely mentioned on wikipedia at all and seeing that the Barton Swinging Aquaduct was mentioned I thought I would give justice to it if I wrote an article about this prominent landmark. Also, many other people have added to it and it would be a shame for them if it were to be deleted. Thanks for reading my rambling message and good wishes.

Barton Road Swing Bridge deletion plans
IBen, I have decided to post this to ask not to go ahead with the deletion of the Barton Road Swing Bridge article. It is quite unique as a swing bridge due to it's different pivoting mechanism and it has had a deep impact on the surrounding community since it's completion over a hundred years ago. I live in the area and was looking on this site for landmarks near my residence and I was mildly surprised. Seeing that it was not mentioned and the Barton Swing Aquaduct was I decided to give the prominebt landmark some justice by writing an article about it. Cheers for reading my long rambling post and good wishes.

- You added much more info. You'll be happy to know that it has been decided to keep the article. The reason I marked it for deletion is that you did not have much info that would make it notable. See this diff. I'm glad you improved it! -- IBen (talk) 22:21, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

All right, that should be taken care of. For what it's worth, though, if it has to go to AfD I doubt that "butchered" will be a sufficient reason to delete—the answer to that is WP:SOFIXIT. The problem is that it's vague and unnecessary, and to the extent you can figure it out, it's half dictdef and half what appears to be an advertisement (though it's tough to tell). Above I said make sure you click "raw signature" then remembered that it's not called that anymore. Please be careful
This warning you issued was very bitey. The user had userfied a page and the redirect just needed to be deleted as a technicality; there was really no wrongdoing here. The user has been quite constructive. Constructive users don't deserve a 4im warning level. Unless there's a serious, obvious level of disruption going on, it's better to use one of the levels that assume good faith (levels 1 and 2) first. Anyway, thanks for patrolling and keep up the good catches. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 01:28, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

You saw User User talk:Mughalnz/Archive1 and slapped a deletion tag on it. That was pure biting. Surely you realised that it was meant to be User talk:Mughalnz/Archive1? The proper thing to do was to move it. Please think in future. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 04:54, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
