Engineer Girma Turuna Derse (born 11 September 1989) is an Ethiopian engineer, author, and political activist from the Horro Guduru Welega region, specifically Jardega Jarte. He is one of the founders of the Oromo National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy, commonly known as Qeerroo Bilisummaa Oromoo, which was established in 2011.

Early life and Education

Girma Turuna was born on 11 September 1989 in Jardega Jarte, Horro Guduru Welega, Ethiopia. He pursued higher education at Haramaya University, where he earned his degree in 2012. He holds a Master of Science in Water Supply and Environmental Engineering and an MBA in Project Management.

Political Activism

Girma Turuna played a significant role in the Oromo political movement as one of the founding members of the Qeerroo Bilisummaa Oromoo. This youth-led movement has been instrumental in advocating for the rights and freedom of the Oromo people. Due to his activism, Girma faced multiple arrests and endured significant hardships under the rule of the EPRDF (Weyane) regime.
