Question about apostrophe on Quran page?

edit

Hello Mpatel, could I ask why you have removed the apostrophe here [[1]] but added it here [[2]]. The apostrophe serves the purpose of the letter ع in the word which both words have. It makes no sense to have it for Ka'b but not for the Qur'an. Would you be kind enough to explain? Mbcap (talk) 23:18, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mbcap. Thanks for your query. I was trying to maintain consistency with the article names. Personally, I prefer Qur'an rather than Quran, but the article is Quran, so I tried to maintain that consistency. A similar reason applies to Ubay ibn K'ab. This apostrophe issue has been on Wikipedia for a long time, and I get frustrated by the lack of consistency over it's use in Arabic words/phrases. But for the time being, I am trying to stick to the article name. Hope that clarifies my edits. MPatel (talkcontribs) 23:57, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, that should be Ka'b. MPatel (talkcontribs) 00:12, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I see your rational for doing it and yes consistency is the key. For the sake of consistency I think we may need to discuss which format to use for ع. I understand you probably have a lot of work on your hands so please carry on with the good work you are doing and when time permits I will at some point in the future raise the issue on the talk page. Happy editing. Mbcap (talk) 00:22, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Mbcap. Been a while since I've done serious editing on Wikipedia, but I am hungry for tidying up some articles :) I look forward to the consistency discussions on this issue. I am sure this issue must have been brought up before, perhaps somewhere on MOSISLAM. MPatel (talkcontribs) 00:28, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Greetings. I'm a little confused by the need for this template; I almost sent it to TfD before noticing that it's creator had been here a while, and probably knew what they were doing. Why do we need a template with only one entry? Vanamonde93 (talk) 18:26, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
