The result of the discussion was userfy to User:Mrchris/WikiProject Kilkenny. JohnCD (talk) 11:23, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
This is a non-project: its simply a page created by one editor.
Its only listed member is its creator Mrchris (talk · contribs), and in the the six months since it was created, MrChris is the only editor to post to its talk page. The project page has been edited by only one other editor, who added a sortkey for a category.
The parent project, WikiProject Ireland (WP:IE), is not particularly busy, and so far as I am aware there are no other by-county sub-projects of WP:IE (see Category:WikiProject Ireland).
After 6 months there is no evidence of any other editors having an interest in such a project, and without editors a project doesn't exist. (Per WP:COUNCIL "a WikiProject is a group of editors that collaborate ...", but there is no group here). County Kilkenny is one of Ireland's mid-sized counties, with a population of less than 90,000, and I don't see any reason to expect such a narrow project to grow any time soon. Deleteuserfy -as per nomas per SmokeyJoe Fmph (talk) 16:28, 1 April 2011 (UTC)- Keep - Overall I would say it is not a narrow project, with over 700 articles. For the larger projects like Wikiproject Ireland it is easy to analyse what articles need work with tools like this, this is harder for a county basis. I would like to develop this project further, I am currently just setting up the project and have not made any attempt to contact more/other editors. I will do so in the future. This WikiProject as it develops will allow groups of editors to collaborate. I probably should also let you know that there is a Portal:Kilkenny. Also I will be looking at getting local people/Museums/societies (not necessarily current wikipedia editors) to help contribute as the project develops. You could join and help me sort, fix, improve articles related to county Kilkenny rather that deleting the wikiproject. There is a Wikipedia:WikiProject Belfast which makes use of the WP 1.0 web tool, I hope this tool will be useful for this project as it develops. Maybe other by-county sub-projects may develop in time, for the moment please allow this project develop more. Mrchris (talk) 18:01, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- The Belfast project relates to the Belfast Metropolitan Area, whose population is 5.5 times that of County Kilkenny. It's also a major industrial city and a centre of govt, but even so the WikiProject Belfast is nearly dead: there has been no substantive discussion of anything at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Belfast since 2007; the posts since then are just notifications, mostly bot-generated.
- WP:Belfast is a good illustration of the risk of excessively narrow WikiProjects; they are unable to often develop the critical mass needed to make them an active tool of collaboration, and even those which do get there may not sustain it. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:51, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yes maybe WP:Belfast may have been too narrow, but a good example of what I would like to achieve is Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset (also, population size should not be the only factor). Mrchris (talk) 12:23, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- Userfy as good faith contribution disputed. Do not retag as a WikiProject without first passing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 20:41, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- I think userification is a great idea. If and when Mrchris can demonstrate that there is indeed a group of who active editors ready to build a sustainable WikiProject, then I'm sure that the WikiProject Council will be happy to support either a project or a task force of WP:IE. But in the meantime, it's not a project, it's an aspiration. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:58, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- I have no problem with Userfication, however why is my good faith contribution disputed (SmokeyJoe). I will begin to ask other editors to join and help build a WikiProject or task force; as I can agree, it's not a current project, yes it's an aspiration (HairedGirl). However, it seems to me that you should be bold, - that if you build it they shall come, - and I still would like to be able to create a cleanup listing like WikiProject_Ireland/Cleanup_listing for articles related to Kilkenny and/to maintain Portal:Kilkenny (which is under construction). I will start sending out invitations to join and then ask WikiProject Council to support either a project or a task force of WP:IE. Mrchris (talk) 11:30, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- Umm, you built it 6 months ago, and they haven't come. Maybe they'll come once you invite ppl, but see how that goes. As to a cleanup listing like Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/Cleanup listing, that's an auto-generated thing for projects, and it will have to await a project or task force. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:41, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- The auto-generated thing for projects, is probably the main reason that I wish to create this project. Also, it is not fair to say it was built six month ago and nobody has come, the infrastructure for it was built six months ago but not one article has been tagged yet, and that will only occur with some help (go ahead) by WP:IE I'd assume (when there are more Participants) Mrchris (talk) 13:01, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- Your good faith contribution is disputed as to being worthy, at least as a WikiProject, by the nominator, BrownHairedGirl, here. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 21:47, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
