Handling citations with broken URLs

edit

Hello, Mrsedashwoodferrars. I noticed that, at Symphyla, you replaced some citations because their URLs no longer worked (1, 2, 3). I restored the original citations (4, 5, 6), using the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine and the citation templates' Web archive parameters. Advice on the problem of citations with broken URLs is available at WP:DEADREF (with which I wasn't familiar myself, so don't worry if you weren't). Although I've not used it myself, I understand that we have an Internet Archive Bot (WP:IAB) that can be told to find and to fix (if possible) all such broken citations in a page; according to the bot's page,

You can use this bot yourself by viewing the revision history of any page, and clicking on the "Fix dead links" link in the "External tools" section at the top of the page.

Hope this helps, —2d37 (talk) 02:57, 10 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Flour, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Albion Mills. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Attempting to use newworldencyclopedia as a source

edit

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. However, please do not use unreliable sources such as blogs, your own website, websites and publications with a poor reputation for checking the facts or with no editorial oversight, expressing views that are widely acknowledged as extremist, that are promotional in nature, or that rely heavily on rumors and personal opinions, as one of Wikipedia's core policies is that contributions must be verifiable through reliable sources, preferably using inline citations. If you require further assistance, please look at Help:Menu/Editing Wikipedia, or ask at the Teahouse. Thank you. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:37, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for this heads up. I'm learning! The page on Death Valley that I was editing (it was on the list of citations needed) seems to be drawing heavily verbatim from the New World Encyclopedia. Not sure what to do in that case. Finding it hard to locate reliable alternatives for the "citations needed." Should I just skip? Mrsedashwoodferrars (talk) 01:06, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
The New World Encyclopedia "selects and claims to rewrite certain Wikipedia articles through a focus on Unification Church values." Wikipedia didn't draw heavily from NWE; NWE is essentially a copy of Wikipedia edited by it's owner, a church. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:11, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:47, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
