Speedy deletion nomination of Trenegy
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Trenegy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Ϫ 14:46, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

editHello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Trenegy, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. The reverted edit can be found here. Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Trenegy. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Deletion
editActually, the Community Outreach was the least spammy part of it. I suggest you read WP:CORP, WP:SPAM, WP:NPOV and WP:RS before trying again. NPOV is neutral point of view, and RS is reliable independent sources, of which you had one that might have been - the rest were unreliable or not relevant. YouTube and your own site are not reliable for establishing notability (which is an issue as well as the promotional aspect - I didn't add it to the deletion reason but notability didn't seem to be shown/referenced). I'd also advise reading WP:COI, because I am a cynic and can't see people creating articles like this unless they are connected to the company in some way. My apologies if you aren't. Can this page be saved?
editHello, Mtilton, and thanks for your note on my talk page. You asked for my help in getting the Trenegy article into Wikipedia shape so that it will not get deleted again. I appreciate your interest in Wikipedia, but I have to tell you that (like every other editor who has looked at this) I don't think your company qualifies for inclusion in this international encyclopedia. There are a lot of worthy companies in the world, and I'm sure Trenegy is one, but not every company meets Wikipedia's requirements. This is an international encyclopedia and it has to have standards about what can have an article and what can't. The main requirement is that the company has received SUBSTANTIAL coverage from MULTIPLE, INDEPENDENT, RELIABLE sources. That means that major news providers have written in depth about the company; the shorthand for this is that the company is "notable". That really means that enough has been written ABOUT the company to provide reliable independent sourcing for an encyclopedia article. Your article as written provides press releases and internal information, but those do not qualify as "independent sources." I note there is an interview on the local CBS radio station; I can't listen to it right now because I am on vacation, but that one interview is not enough. I did a search myself, in the Google News Archive, to see if I could find any additional coverage, but there was nothing.
There are fixable problems with the page as written. Mostly, it is full of promotional hype which is not allowed here. But the problem is not with the way the article is written, and deleting the promotional stuff won't fix it. The problem is that the subject itself - the company Trenegy - does not meet Wikipedia's requirements as expressed here. I gather the article has been deleted before, possibly more than once, and I have to tell you that it will only get deleted again if you try to repost it. I can tell you are anxious to get the company's name out there, and good for you, but Wikipedia is not the way to do it.
I'm sorry. You came to me for help, and I appreciate it. I do like to "rescue" articles and if I saw any way to salvage this article I would. But I'm afraid the company itself just doesn't meet the requirements for a page here. MelanieN (talk) 01:40, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Melanie I appreciate you looking at the site. It is very tough for Trenegy to have a lot references due to their personal policy of not listing their customers past projects. I believe if Trenegy were able to share those projects with the public, you would see Trenegy as a very notable company that would have a large web presence and that Trenegy deserves a wiki. On another note, Trenegy is up for a couple of state and national awards that will come out later this year, I believe that these might help with web presence and notability you’re talking about. But before I give up for now, I wanted to list these other references and see if they helped at all with creating our page:
http://www.baylor.edu/bbr/index.php?id=79502
http://www.boysandgirlscountry.org/Page395.aspx
http://www.heritagegala.org/Default.aspx?pageId=729376
http://www.cypresschristian.org/support/Annual-Banquet.cfm
Again I really do appreciate your input and honesty on the creation of the Trenegy Wikipedia page. Thanks!

I'm afraid none of those references will help - because none of them provide "significant coverage" about the company. In several cases I couldn't even find the company mentioned in the reference, but even if it was, being listed in connection with a charity event does not meet what we require. Neither does a mention in an alumni magazine. Neither does "listing of customers past projects" or "a large web presence." Wikipedia requires significant indepent coverage, and I am talking about newspaper or other major-source reportage which is specifically about the company. Without significant reporting in (say) a couple of regional, general-circulation newspapers, or a MAJOR award (not many awards qualify as major), it does not meet the requirements of WP:CORP. Frankly, it is very unlikely that a smallish business consulting firm which has been in business for less than two years will have received the kind of coverage needed to list it here on a par with Microsoft and General Motors!
