Just wanted to drop in

And while I'm here, let you know how much I like and respect you! I dunno... it just hit me that it was time to remind you that you are special. :) --Leahtwosaints (talk) 10:00, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the note! Mudwater (Talk) 11:01, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi, just want to say thanks for helping with the List of tallest buildings in Chicago! It's comforting to have other people guarding its accuracy. Umbugbene (talk) 08:04, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Sure thing. Thanks for the note. Mudwater (Talk) 12:41, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

I stand corrected

Sorry for being a dick :) Gaijin42 (talk) 04:11, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

however, not sure that legislation that did not pass is worthy of an encyclopedic entry. Is that of lasting value to readers in 10 years etc? Gaijin42 (talk) 04:12, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. In my opinion it's definitely worthy of being mentioned in the article, because it shows how the definition of "assault weapon" can vary to a surprising degree. But I do think it's not a basic or critical point, which is why I moved it out of the lead section. Hopefully other editors will agree. Mudwater (Talk) 04:17, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Confederate stars-and-bars

Thanks for the assist at Confederate States of America for the historical flag. I will not be able to keep up on wikipedia much longer, so I would take it as a personal favor if you could look out for the history. The stainless banner is found flying in a Ft. McHenry-sized version along I-95 in Georgia. the contemporary "Confederate States of America, Inc." has in its charter (1) the denial of the end of the Confederacy, (2) reference to the states of the former Confederacy as illegitimately "occupied" by the U.S. Government (3) the goal to elect representatives to peaceably vote for secession and (4) the promotion of the "current" flag of the Confederate States of America, the stainless banner, which they use on their correspondence. Anyhow, thanks. Please reply on this page. TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 10:10, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining, I wasn't aware of that. No promises, but I have that article on my watchlist, so I'll try to keep an eye on the infobox flag situation. Mudwater (Talk) 03:01, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia source hierarchy

Right now I'm just trying to beat back the judge-made apartheid of the Insular Cases, which are now overturned in U.S. statute and jurisprudence, as sourced. They are found as the determining editorial direction of the United States article in the lead sentence and introduction. Editors would exclude U.S. citizens living on islands, denying they can be "a part of the United States". Quick summary of the discussion since October can be found at Talk:United States#First sentence source challenge, subsection "'Include territories' sources". After that, my participation will probably be periodic. I'm a teacher retired by disability, my primary concern is that what a fifth grader sees on opening a Wikipedia article. I'd like each to find balanced presentation of history sections with interpretation that is not so miscast or oversimplified that it must be relearned with advancing education. Anyhow, thanks. Please reply on this page. TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 10:10, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

I just took a quick look at that, and I'll check it out some more if I get a chance. It looks to me like you have a valid point, but, to be honest, it might be a point that's a bit subtle for the average reader, let alone the average fifth grader. Like many editors I'm somewhat obsessed with Wikipedia, and how it can inform or misinform our readers, but on the other hand I think that the influence of Wikipedia on real world events is sometimes less than one might think -- and I mean that in a good way! Sure, they’re just robots NOW. But give it a few years and we’ll all be living batteries for their giant metal space platypuses. SHOW NO MERCY! I guarantee they won’t when the great bake sale comes.--Dr who1975 (talk) 15:00, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Perhaps you're right. It might be better to err on the side of caution. Mudwater (Talk) 03:12, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Assault weapon

I made a similar mistake as you did when removing "that is, a machine gun". When I imagine machine gun, I picture any fully automatic gun of any sort. That is apparently incorrect and while assault weapon does not equal assault rifle, assault rifle does not equal machine gun, even though both are fully automatic. Ryan Vesey 02:24, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Please see my comment. Surely we can write this more accurately than your edit. --Zeamays (talk) 20:56, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Fillmore: The Last Days, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Santana (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Album by artist subcats

Please note There is consensus at WT:ALBUM that album by artist categories should not be subcatgorized by performer (e.g. here) but linked via {{catseealso}}. —Justin (koavf)TCM 04:01, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for using my photos on the Grateful Dead page. Let me know if you would like to use any others, or if there's anything else I can contribute toward the GD or Dead-related pages.

Thanks again!

Invitation for taking a short survey about communication and efficiency of WikiProjects for my research

Hi Mudwater, I'm working on a project to study the running of WikiProject and possible performance measures for it. I learn from WikiProject Albums talk page that you are an active member of the project. I would like to invite you to take a short survey for my study. If you are available to take our survey, could you please reply an email to me? I'm new to Wikipedia, I can't send too many emails to other editors due to anti-spam measure. Thank you very much for your time. Xiangju (talk) 14:42, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Mysterium Tremendum may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
