Thanks!
Hi, I noticed you updating Joseph Kony to take into account the ICC arrest warrants and thought I'd drop by to say that I appreciate your contributions. Cheers and happy editing, BanyanTree 16:19, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
- I appreciate yours too! By the way, it's the first time someone thanks me for my edits. I usually concentrate on small things like links and spelling, and I'm always scared by real factual edits because I could do mistakes (and also because I'm not a native English speaker). But now I'm starting to be a bit more bold when editing, so your message is really encouraging: thank you! Mushroom 17:03, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
Deletion of pages
Regarding Foreign Minister of Italy, Please do not just blank the page. Please see WP:AfD for the correct procedure on how to remove a page. Thank you, --VileRage (Talk|Cont) 10:08, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism
How come you think every major edit is vandilism? I saw you put the Luigi artice back to almost the way it was! Why? Couldn't you see that most of the part I moved was Luigi's history? You could've just moved the non-history related part back to the top! And in the Mario Kart 64 article I saw you "reverting vandilism"! What's up with that? VenomousNinja 02:51, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
- This is not true. Please check my edits again:
- On the Luigi article, I did an edit on November 13 [1] to put the "History" heading back since it had been cancelled by J44xm. If you have a look at Mario, you'll see that the first section of the article is quite big, and includes information about Mario's first appearances and about the creation of his name. I just wanted to do the same with Luigi. I think that the real History section starts where I put it. I did another edit on November 10 [2] to remove erroneous information (vandalism) introduced by 210.50.143.21. If you go to IMDb and check, you'll see that I was right.
- Regarding the Mario Kart 64 article, I did an edit on November 12 [3] in which I removed information about the Marty character, which is not in the game (so the edit I reverted was vandalism). I did another edit on November 13 [4] removing it again since there is no proof for this rumor, and GameFaqs doesn't mention it. These two edits were made by anonymous users (67.80.13.152 and 161.184.42.146), not by you. I never reverted an edit you did on Mario Kart 64, so I don't see why you're complaining.
- Concluding: If an anonymous user puts unsourced information in an article, and I check and see it's false, I call it "vandalism". I don't see what's wrong with that. I never referred to your edits as vandalism, and I would never do so, since you're a registered user and your (and my) edits can be discussed on the talk pages. Mushroom 04:39, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
Ok mushmush (I can call you mushmush, right?) I see what your saying. I was complaing that you moved the part of history I moved into the history section back, but I see why you did that now..
P.S. Who is Marty? VenomousNinja 20:28, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, you can call me mushmush :-)
- Marty is a fictitious Mario Kart character (a green thwomp) that an anonymous user added to the list of playable characters in Mario Kart 64. I reverted that edit, then the next day another anonymous user added it again. The story originated on Magikoopa.com, probably to drive more people to the site, and was later discussed on this GameInformer forum and on this IGN forum. Obviously it was a hoax. Dear, Mushroom
It looks like User 66.215.3.69 is still adding non-factual information to the whole Mario Kart series of games, please handle this.

Sounds like he still wasn't listening. Saw a few reverts on the Mario Kart series of games history pages after the users summary ending in (Rm vandalism.) Might want to check it out. Thanks User:Justice League 05 Dec. 19, 2005

User:66.215.3.69's block just expired, an he's back at it again. I just caught him/her fooling around with the page Mega Man ZX, and after looking at his contribution list, he's edited a bunch of other articles, including Mario Superstar Baseball where he added a bunch of real baseball teams to a game with fictional characters. Will you handle this, or could you tell me who I should notify about this--as you said you're not an admin, but you seem to know who is. -- VederJuda 21:28, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Children of Bodom Peer Review request
Hello, Mushroom. I am currently attempting to get an article on a metal band to featured status, and a first effort I have put the article on Children of Bodom (which has been my project for quite a while) up for Peer Review. You're a sysop!
Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.
Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=Please also add your name to WP:LA. =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:12, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Blocks
No problem :-) I figure I have more patience than the vandals. It's blocked for 15 minutes - after that, any more vandalism will warrant a much longer block. I find that brief blocks tend to be more effective than the usual 24 hour ones. --HappyCamper 03:35, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
- The recent blocks that you are making...are they from the same IP range? Might be worthwhile to block a whole range of IPs instead... --HappyCamper 03:49, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yes they are, it's obviously the same vandal who is vandalizing from different computers. Yesterday he stopped after changing two or three IPs, and it seems he has stopped again. Since it is a school I don't want to block all its IPs. Mushroom 03:55, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Solutions to users adding bogus information?
What should you do about people adding bogus information to pages? I've seen alot of this going on where people fan fiction to stuff like movies/books/TV shows, and it gets kind of annoying when they change any articles that refer to them to reflect their changes. --Wallaby 02:50, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- If they add bogus information to an existing article, you should revert the articles to the last good version.
- If they create new bogus articles you should request a deletion according to Wikipedia:Deletion policy.
- In both cases you should also warn the user according to Wikipedia:Vandalism.
- If they continue to add that information you should contact an administrator directly or using Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress, so that they can be blocked. Mushroom 03:00, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks Mushroom! I was just unsure because i didn't want to nullify anyones addition (albeit a bogus one) and get punished. --Wallaby 23:41, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
It is not only content dispute. The user has changed my signature and the message that it read as if written by him. Wikipedia:Requests for mediation. It is Changing people's comments vandalism. Thank you for your attention. --TimBits 17:18, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ok, then list it at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard, since Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism is strictly for vandals who must be blocked quickly, and I think this isn't the case. Thank you. Mushroom 17:25, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Ok, then I will post it in there. In Wikipedia:Requests for mediation he/she has changed my signature with his. When I reverted, explaining it, he again edited and put remarks that I am the one who is changing his edits. You can see it by comparing different edits. I don't know, but this person seems to have some sort of psychlogical problem. --TimBits 17:36, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi, No!! Actually I wrote the same that he claimed agaist me and I did not changed his signature, I just added my claim, since I was in hurry I wrote the same words as he wrote against me and I did not changed his name, In fact if you cheque the history of the page you will see that he chenged my name!!! Thank you Diyako Talk + 17:41, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Mr/Mrs TimBits!
I am just NOT a shiite islamic fundametalist like you who ignore kurds by political, religoius and ethnical ... etc reasons including false sources! Thank You Diyako Talk + 18:03, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
This could be just a big misunderstanding. As I see it, things went this way:
- TimBits wrote the first message.
- An hour and a half later Diyako took the exactly same words and changed the names, but he didn't delete the first message. You can see this for yourself: there were TWO messages, one in the "Stalled" section and one in the "Awaiting acceptance" section.
- TimBits probably thought that Diyako had changed the names in his message, so he deleted Diyako's message.
- Then Diyako took TimBits' article and changed the names, probably thinking that he was editing HIS article, which had instead been deleted.
I assume good faith, and I think that neither of you could be blocked on this basis. I think you should go back to request for mediation, since I'm not part of the mediation committee. In the meantime, please don't edit the disputed article in a way that could be seen as POV by each other. Remember that any violation of the three-revert rule could be considered vandalism. Mushroom 18:12, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for explanation. I hope it is like you say. And you are talking about three(?) revert rule? :) Situation is a bit worse, to say the least. The guy does not provide any source or when faced with facts, resorts to name calling, such as racist, ignoring Kurds, Shiite Islamic fundementalist, and the list goes on. I put a request for attention on admins page. And I am very sorry for bugging you with an issue you probably have no interest in. --TimBits 18:22, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
I see that you have at least two contradicting sources:
- this one says that "the population is Azeri, with a Kurdish minority".
- this one says that "the Kurds of Iran inhabit most of West Azerbaijan".
You have to find official, accurate statistics. If you can't find them, you could put both theories in the article, or remove both of them, since no-one can know for sure who is right. I hope that you (I mean both of you) can settle this peacefully. Mushroom 18:28, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
The second one, actually is not my source. But if it is credible and unbiased, which it seems to be, then it is worth mentioning. The point though is not that Kurds inhabit most of West Azerbaijan. The point is whether they are majority ot not. Yes they do live in a larger area, because the areas they live are the Western and Southern parts of the province, which is highland, rural and sparsely populated. Turks are dominant in urban centres such as Urmia, the capital of the province. Therefore, Kurds inhabiting a larger area does not mean that they are the majority. --TimBits 18:36, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I meant "you and Diyako have contradicting sources", I took the second one from Diyako's edits. Anyway, you need a credible and up-to-date source, and I don't know if it exists. I understand your point of view and it seems reasonable to me, but Diyako says that "there is a strong desire by the government to down-play Kurdish population and the Kurdish lands by political, religious and ethnical reasons", and this seems plausible too. You should really find a compromise: you can't just go on with edit wars since this won't solve that issue. I see how this can be difficult when he says things like "YOU ARE REALLY A RACIST VANDALIST", but I don't know what else to say. Mushroom 18:56, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Yes, government is against the kurds and I can cite tuhousands of credible sources. I agree with you to put both theories in the article and tried to do so but TimBits say only the vesion that calims turks are in majority. Thanks. Diyako Talk + 19:06, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Why? Did you get confussed by [5]? It might be a hoax, but I can find absolutely no connection to the video game. In the mean time, I have reverted to previous versions. Renata3 00:14, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I should have explained this on the talk page. See this Joystiq entry, this Kotaku entry, this and this. Sunken Giant, Giant of Mahabalipuram and Incan Giant are all hoaxes, it's a viral campaign for Shadow of the Colossus. All of them were created by 200.92.156.193. I will try to merge them with the game's article, since I don't think they deserve articles of their own. Mushroom 04:59, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Suggestion on bands
I was looking at Special:Newpages for a while and there are a lot of non-notable bands that I feel bad about just AfD'ing. You might want to consider creating a "garage band" category for bands that are known or suspected of being non-notable. It is sort of like a holding bin for AfD, but maybe a specialist could give such a category some proper attention. Obviously, if a garage band cut a CD, it would be nice if their albums could be tossed into a "garage band album" type category as well. Same for singles and songs and whatever. The point is hat if the band page is gone, it becomes more difficult to evaluate if any of their CD's were somehow notable. There is a relationship there were Wikipedia benefits if the band page is kept and maybe the CD/track/song info is merged into the band page. Again, it all helps to evaluating the bigger "notability" issue. -- Fplay 19:38, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for the suggestion. I like your idea and I think it could be useful, but there are some problems:
- it would be quite open to POV, so maybe a clear definition of "garage band" should be made first.
- it would be quite difficult to maintain.
- most of the bands are already in Category:Musical group stubs (even if this is a totally different category)
- Since a category like this would affect a lot of articles, maybe you should go to Notability (music) or to WikiProject Music and post your proposal there, to see what the other editors think about it. Mushroom 10:15, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
