Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Alexf(talk) 09:59, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I am not trying to promote a business. Musical Kaleidoscope is a non-profit organization. My reasons for becoming a Wikipedia editor are 1) to make useful edits to help provide correct and good information about music. If you look at the musicalkaleidoscope.com website, you will see the work that my wife and I are doing. For my first edits, yesterday, I added eight rare album titles to The Isaacs Wikipedia page. 2 - I wish to upgrade my own Wikipedia page "Don Robertson (composer)". I created that page when Wikipedia was new almost twenty years ago. I am the author of numerous books and articles, and I am a composer who has recorded 18 albums. My Wikipedia page is sadly unrepresentative of my work. The reason that I was blocked, it looks to me, is because I added some external links to my page, among them being musicalkaleidoscope.com. I added those because that was an easy change to make, and I am still learning. I have no interest in using Wikipedia in a way to make money. That is not my intention. I respect what Wikipedia too much to try something like that. I had chosen the name "musical kaleidoscope" because it was not taken and "don robertson" was.

Decline reason:

Based on what you say here, and looking at the article edit history, it seems that you had an account in your name, do you no longer have access to that account? (that's fine if you don't, just trying to avoid renaming you if you can use an existing username; don't attempt to edit from it yet if you do have access) As a human being, I think what you're doing is great, but you can't use Wikipedia to tell the world about it. You don't have to be promoting a business to be promoting something. Aside from promotion, it is a severe conflict of interest for you to edit about your own website/nonprofit. Writing an autobiography was probably a little more acceptable 20 years ago than today- while not forbidden, it is discouraged. Please review WP:COI and tell us what will change about how you contribute in the future. 331dot (talk) 16:03, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I no longer have access to the account that I used to have. I don't remember what the email address was, etc. I would like to upgrade my Don Robertson (composer) Wikipedia page to provide a discography and to describe what I have done in my life. I would base the final layout on pages that other composers have and provide good citations (there have been articles written about me). If I am forbidden to do that, then I will accept that and assume that someday, others will do that instead. I am OK with that. However, I still would like to have an account to edit other Wikipedia pages. I would gladly either use my old account or this new one if it were available, but I would need to understand whether I am able to edit my own page or not. I would appreciate your comment on that. I read the COI page and I see that editing my own page is not recommended. I am wondering, should one of my accounts be available, if should I continue to edit it, will I be blocked again. Thanks so much for this quick reply. Don Robertson Musical Kaleidoscope (talk) 16:38, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please make a new request for someone else to review. 331dot (talk) 19:12, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Whoever deleted the additions that I had made to the external links section on my Wikipedia page also deleted ALL of the external links, including those that were placed there by someone else previously. One of those was the link to my website donrobertsonmusic.com. That link has been on this Wikipedia page for a long time. Is there a possibility that the original links that were already on the page be restored? It looks like I am not going to be given back my ability to edit Wikipedia. 69.130.129.237 (talk) 15:35, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
No, I don't think the link is necessary for Wikipedia. PhilKnight (talk) 17:41, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

That is an acceptable username, but that is only a small part of the problem. PhilKnight (talk) 17:41, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I was blocked because of the user name that I chose. I was unaware that I was creating a COI. I wish to change that name to something else. I am not trying to self-promote!
