Hello, I'm Yashovardhan Dhanania. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Session musician have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Yashovardhan (talk) 08:48, 18 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Mean as custard (talk) 11:31, 18 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, I'm very new at this so I do hope I'm doing it correctly. Thank you for your messages, I have read them both carefully and I have also read the "External Links" wikipedia article. I would like to go into further depth as to why I posted this one particular link as I believe strongly that it deserves a place in the article and would very much like to put my case for you to consider. Firstly, I did just want to clarify...the other 2 links that were under the External Links section are actually nothing to do with me, I didn't post them and have no further knowledge of them. The particular link that I posted was purely the one link about session singers who are session musicians that specialise in recording vocals and who deserve to be recognized and identified in this article. Knowing that for session musicians, versatility is key, before posting the link I did extensive research and the link I found seemed to be authoritative and a good example/source seeing as it was the only one I could find that covered every aspect of session vocals possible all under one site. It was the only one I could find that covered all vocal tones and timbres, all music genres in addition to all categories including session harmony groups, international languages, gospel choir vocals etc. literally every every element that I could think of, so it seemed to me to be a credible source and informative together with the widest possible scope and therefore I posted it within the article as I feel it should be included and will be helpful to readers of the article.

I apologize for not having provided an edit summary the very first time I posted the link. This is really due to me being a beginner as I've never done this before, and after that, I did then paste in an explanation, in fact Yashovardhan was good enough to leave the link up the second time and send me a message saying "I see that you later added some more links with a really good summary! " for which I'm very grateful.

All was well for a while and then I saw that the whole External Links section had been removed, including my one link. Yashovardhan and Mean as custard, apologies for the rather long message but I very much wanted to give you an insight into my thinking and very much hope that just that one link can now be restored.

Thanks so much,

  • Thanks for your message. I chose this one particularly because there is literally nothing within it that is how-to. I think its important to have actual examples of session musicians specialising in vocals across different genres, vocal tones and timbres as well as categories and this is the most comprehensive and will help the reader and improve the article.

If there are no further objections, I will restore this one link ?

Thanks, Musicindustryeducation (talk) 06:16, 19 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • The link is highly relevant...I know this because I am a retired session musician myself, I was a working session musician for 30 years and am an expert in the field and would be more than happy to expand on the topic further within the article in order to set the link in context and inform. I do object however to your personal opinion of calling me a spammer, I am nothing of the sort, I don't even know what nofollow tags are and in fact I am not technological in the least - I'm a musician - I certainly haven no affiliation to any websites whatsoever. I am new to Wikipedia and so far, given a message like your last one, it has to be said that I am finding it all a little bit overwhelming. Session musicians do indeed charge money for their work, all of them do, that's the whole point of what distinguishes a session musician from a recording artist. Session musicians specializing in vocals need to be versatile and skilled in as many different musical styles as possible - this is an absolutely essential part of the skill set for a session musician and is a key element of exactly what session musician is.   Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Session musician. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia.   Administrator note The link you are adding is not appropriate, per WP:ELNO#5. Futhermore, your repeated addition of this link, in the face of opposition from a number of other editors and without consensus, is edit-warring and is liable to result in your account being blocked from editing. Please do not re-add this link. Yunshui  08:48, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.
