The Apartheid Museum

Hello - I am a novice; but desperately trying to understand how all this works. I hope I am writing to you as I should. I noticed your comment on the Apartheid Museum article. You're right - it is a wholesome mess because Wikipedia and the general public have been fed a palpable fabrication about the history of The Apartheid Museum. Whoever places that material on there on behalf of Gold Reef Casino Group; the owners of the structure that calls itself The Apartheid Museum; perpetuates that palpable fabrication. The Apartheid Museum is a trademark of full force and effect on the Register of Trademarks and it does NOT belong to the Gold Reef Group of Casinos. This is a fact. I have corrected the Wikipedia entry on many occassions in order to bring some semblance of truth to this matter. Visit: www.stainbank.co.za - there lies some truth. Hope I have done this right. Aero L-39 image

Hi,

The image (SAAF-Aero L-39 Albatros-001.jpg) that you added to the SA Air Force wiki page has been removed, and seeing as the editor who removed it didn't leave a comment explaining his actions, I thought I'd let you know why it was done. In short, the image didn't belong on the page because the SA Air Force has never operated L-39s or any other Eastern Bloc aircraft. The L-39 in your photo is really a privately-owned aircraft that was imported by its owner from Eastern Europe. It's ok, mistakes happen, but I'd appreciate it if you could also edit the title and description on the photo's Commons page in order to avoid future confusion. Pilanesberg

I noticed you changed all of the references in Pilanesberg to game reserve rather than National park, if it has indeed lost its status, can you please cite this fact and include in the article that it is a former national park. Thanks for catching my error

Thanks for the catch on Royal Natal National Park. I was having some trouble with one aspect of my search and replace pattern but I didn't think anything had slipped through damaged. I've since fixed it and it should not happen again. Not really an expert, just interested in the topic and I try to improve South Africa related articles in general. I have added a quick note on the spelling, but I am really not an expert on the field of linguistics. Will search for more info and some references.

On a different note, I see that you have moved the page from //Khara Hais Local Municipality to //Khara Hais. Is there a specific reason for that? All the other Local Municipality articles in South Africa use the Local Municipality postfix. --NJR_ZA (talk) 16:46, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. The move was a mistake. Personally I would prefer to see a title of Khara Hais Municipality which is what they call themselves on this page or simply Khara Hais since, unlike for example KwaDukuza Local Municipality, there is apparently no need to distinguish between a municipality and settlement of the same name. And Khara Hais are quite inconsistent within their own website as to whether they put // in front or not. MeerKAT Photos

Thanks for your response. The Commons process is confusing and complicated! All I want to do is add a pic or two to a single article, for WP to force me to jump though all those hoops is a load of crap! I've uploaded the photos (reduced size) to Flikr [1] I was there during the past weekend as part of an Amateur radio field station. (I'm the bald guy sitting at the radio in two of the photos) It was an historic occasion as it was the last time anyone will be permitted to operate a radio transmitter from that site. For adding info to the articles i started, i noted that some of the Names of the Peace Parks don't follow the same line as the official list, please see them added to the list Protected areas of South Africa, and you wiil see what i mean. I would also like to be able to come back to the original Park, like i did for Kalahari and Gemsvok Parks, but someone keeps changing that. Best way to stop people for changing information you add it to add references to it. That way it is not just you stating something, but an actual published fact. Easy way to add references is by adding reftools to your edit gadget (the bar of useful buttons just above the edit area). To do so, go to your preferences at Special:Preferences, look under the Editing tab and switch on Show edit toolbar (requires JavaScript), then look under the Gadgets tab and switch on refTools under the Editing gadgets section --NJR_ZA (talk) 12:58, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Removal: Cape Vidal

I can't recall what the content on the article was. Was the location all the article contained and was it copied/pasted as-is from somewhere else? If so then it is a copyright violation with no reason to keep the article. If there was more content then it probably would not have been deleted; just the bits that were copy/pasted would have been removed or changed. You really should look at quality vs. quantity. You have started a lot of pages, but they don't have any substance and is not very useful. If you want, pick one of those articles and I will help you get it from an empty stub to at least a useful start article. --NJR_ZA (talk) 11:32, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I'm aware of that and I have not removed the APNR from the Protected Areas article, just from the National Parks section. APNR is still under Private and Other Parks. The APNR is important and should be mentioned under Protected Areas, but even though they are bordering the Kruger and may even dropped fences between them and the Kruger, they are still not a part of the National Park. National Parks are not just thumbsucked, they are defined and enacted by law. Ah, seems that the act I was thinking of (National Parks Act (No. 57 of 1976)) has been repealed by the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003. But it still contains the same requirements for National Parks and they are:

‘national park’ means-
(a) an area which was a park in terms of the National Parks Act, 1976
(Act No. 57 of 1976), immediately before the repeal of that Act by
section 90(1) of this Act, and includes a park established in terms of
an agreement between a local community and the Minister which
has been ratified by Parliament; or
“
(b) an area declared or regarded as having been declared in terms of
section 20 as a national park,
and includes an area declared in terms of section 20 as part of an area
referred to in paragraph (a) or (b) above;
‘National Parks Land Acquisition Fund’ means the fund established
by section 12A of the National Parks Act, 1976 (Act No. 57 of 1976);”

Dams

Spioenkop was a decimal mistake shoeld be 15.314 km² is (5.913 sq mi). Driekloof i can't find what you removed, but should be 1.906 square kilometres (0.736 sq mi) the storage capacity here is 32071 m³ because this dam is deep.Flagman (talk) 12:28, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

You can simply copy and those new ones and paste them into the new version of the article, but please, please make sure your data is correct. Right now I am trying to find a ref that supports your claim that Ohrigstad Dam has a surface area of 992km². I based the figures on a spreadsheet i got from the SANCOLD (south african national committee on large dams)(member of ICOLD , international committee on large dams), dated january 2009, i made one big mistake. The surface areas where stated in 10³m², and not in km². I took for granted that their data would be even more accurate that the department's data. If you would like i could sent you this file? For the rest i am trying to find a second site to veryfy the surface areas, you seem to have done so with most of the capacity figures on the DWA site. I have asked permission of the DWA to use maps, pictures, data, etc. from their site, for wikipedia. Is you spreadsheet the same as this one? If so, then there is no need to forward me the one you have. I am busy building a wiki table from the the spreadsheet in the above link. One thing I noted is that the capacity they indicate seems to be Gross capacity, i.e. the max the dam will hold, rather than net or operating capacity. The figures I have added to List of reservoirs and dams in South Africa mostly indicate net capacity. We might need to show both figures in List of reservoirs and dams in South Africa. No the spreadsheet i used was not from the dwaf (however when i use your link i only get the header, no data further). On your sheet i notice that the second dam on your list Allemanskraal Dam you list as being in the Eastern Cape, however it is in the Free State, and therefore on the Sand River (Free State), not Sand River (South Africa). The capacity is allways a theoretical 100 % gross figure. The Vaal Dam can hold 107 % of its working (or nett capacity), It would be good to include both figures (if everybody would understand that, it may otherwise confuse the issue even more). Did you miss the Albert Falls Dam on your list on purpose (is bigger than the Allemanskraal Dam)? --Flagman (talk) 13:41, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
